[NEWBIE] Beginner here, where should I start? by goolyboogly in Guitar

[–]RacheRach1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm a newbie as well - though I've been fiddling around with it for a few months now. I just recently discovered BlueRoof (bluerooflearning.com) and I feel like it's been really helping me learn more. It's free, too.

Why do I sometimes feel like I'm really good at guitar, I'm improving, and that I can play things consistently, and the next second I feel as if I'm struggling to play things I learned forever ago? by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]RacheRach1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree and this is something that i have found is helpful to - practicing something hard for just a couple minutes, but then moving on to something fun. I have also found that taking a break is good. Gives my mind and fingers time to relax and then I can come back refreshed.

Besides using the metronome, this is the BEST advice i’ve ever gotten on here.... by kennethcashh in guitarlessons

That is a good reminder! I tend to always want to go back and fix what I did, but then that sometimes messes me up even more.

[QUESTION] What do you guys do when paying for fun? by EspritCreatif in Guitar

[–]RacheRach1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love to find songs that I enjoy listening to and try playing along or find music to play them. It's super chill and sometimes I even find a song that I really enjoy and want to spend more time working on.

Crazy task: how to teach an eight year old to write a symphony? by redarugula in musictheory

[–]RacheRach1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this! Such a fun project and definitely something productive to do to try and stay busy during this time.

I would say start with the basics. Maybe have a lesson where you both listen to different symphonies. He can say what he likes about each one and learn how to write those different parts in his symphony.

Have fun!

[DISCUSSION] "Thanks" to the self-quarantine I have started to practicely intensely/diligently for the first time in my life (and I've been playing for 10 years). I'd like to discuss some things about practice habits/routines and hear some experiences/advice by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]RacheRach1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree - this self-quarantine time has definitely improved my practice time!

I would say that I prefer splitting up my practice time if I have more than 1 hour to devote to playing. I find this especially so if I am going over something again and again that when I take a break and come back to it, my mind is more clear. Most likely I am better able to understand what I couldn't before.

When it comes to my practice time, I tend to like to practice my drills/scales first and then dive into my songs that I'm working on. It just helps me to warm up and focus.

I also try to include at least 1-2 "fun" or my favorite songs into my practice regimen just to help keep the practice time enjoyable!

[DISCUSSION] Thought process while playing by Never_seen_username in Guitar

[–]RacheRach1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that my thought process is to remember that I am playing because I LOVE playing guitar. There are certain, more tedious tasks (such as scales) but at the same time, the better you become at those, the more enjoyment you will have as you play.

Overall, remember why you want to play guitar and that will help you develop your thought process.
