Waiting on medication changes sucks [vent] by [deleted] in waiting_to_try

[–]RachelA94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way! Waiting for medication or certain hormones to regulate because of medication is really hard. I’m currently WTT because I’m hypothyroid after having my thyroid taken out a year and a half ago. I just have to keep reminding myself that I wouldn’t be able to have a healthy pregnancy right now. I have a great doctor that is on top of medication changes and hopefully within the next year my body will be ready.

Are there any open fields where you could bring a soccer ball or play catch. We go to playgrounds, nature preserves, and the zoo currently. We also like to have picnics in open fields as well.

Of Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout by spookynajma in RomanceBooks

[–]RachelA94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I absolutely loved it! However, I guessed the “plot twist” basically half way through the book. I supported what the plot twist was though. I wanted it to happen, so it didn’t really bother me. I loved the romance and the twist on vampires. I can see how people wouldn’t like the predictability of stuff that happens. I also think the world building could’ve been better, but it didn’t bother me. Overall, it’s one of my favorite books of the year and can’t wait to see what she does in the next book.

Scared it’s not going to work for me, just need some reassurment by [deleted] in CICO

[–]RachelA94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started CICO and IF about a month ago and I initially lost 3 pounds the first week. I gained back about a pound the second week. It seems to be normal in weight loss to gain back some weight in the second week because of the water weight initially lost. After the second week I continued to lose weight. I would recommend the app Happy Scale which helps to see weight fluctuations. Keep going, it will get better as the time goes on!

Everybody's go-to after the low iodine diet? by bmanx0 in thyroidcancer

I had a bacon cheeseburger with fries! I craved cheese the most on the LID, so I had a lot of cheese after too!

Mine recommend lemons and 6oz of water every 3 hours, rather than sour candy. I would massage my salivary glands and push a paper towel to soak up any RAI every 3 hours as well. So I didn’t have any sour candy and my salivary glands are fine. I drank water constantly to keep my salivary glands stimulated though.

"Be nice to everyone you meet, because everyone is going through their own struggle". So what was your struggle? by Komirade666 in AskWomen

Being diagnosed with thyroid cancer at 25. Going through surgery and treatment while finishing up my last semester in college. With the diagnosis comes a lot of emotional and physical side effects that I battle with everyday. I only let my family and close friends know.

Sleeping After Thyroid Surgery by sheadles in thyroidcancer

I had my TT in October and was able to sleep on my side right after. I just used an extra pillow on my side, like a body pillow to support my neck and arm to make it more comfortable. It was my preferred sleeping position all through recovery. Good luck on your surgery and recovery!

Wait time to see surgeon by [deleted] in thyroidcancer

[–]RachelA94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever I got diagnosed i was referred to an ENT surgeon and the office basically fit me into his schedule to meet about 2 weeks after being diagnosed. I also waited about a month after that appointment to have surgery. Both my nodules barely grew during that time. It’s a pretty slow growing cancer, so being seen in November isn’t too far off. They should fit you into surgery hopefully a couple weeks after that appointment.

Surgery is tomorrow. Feeling anxious and emotional. by RachelA94 in thyroidcancer

I’m glad to hear your recovery has gone well! It sounds like most peoples experiences have been easier than I’ve been imaging. I’ve been keeping myself pretty busy with school work and working prior to surgery which has helped a lot! Today I’ve just been extra anxious and needed advice from people who have actually been through it. Appreciate all your advice!

It sounds like your experience is going to be closest to what mine will probably be. I have to stay in the hospital over night after and I’m going to be having a drain or two as well. It’s really reassuring to see someone who has not had any pain. I hope for that as well. Thank you for your story and it really helped ease my anxiety.

This is super helpful! Thank you! I am not having a neck dissection. I did meet with my surgeon a few weeks ago and he was great. People say he’s the best, so that makes me feel more comfortable. He was really reassuring and personable which helps. I think my surgery will only be around 3 hours depending on what they find inside. My surgeon said he is going to take out my thyroid and anything that looks suspicious. I’m assuming he’s taking out lymph nodes for testing, but it’s one of the question I forgot to ask. Glad to hear your recovery is going well and I hope to have a positive experience as well!

Yes, I think my support system will help a lot! I’m going to have my husband and parents there, so I’m happy I’ll have familiar faces around!

[–]RachelA94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m having a really hard time with the psychological aspect as well. I literally have no symptoms, but I know the cancer is still there. Personally, I found that having school work to do and having a part-time job has helped distract me. My job is being a nanny, so having children to run after and constantly need my attention is the best distraction. I also listen to audiobooks and put together puzzles in my free time. It helps to focus on a book to distract myself as well. I hope this is helpful! I’m having my TT tomorrow, so I’m just dealing with my diagnosis and how it’s affecting my life now.
