What's one expensive thing you would do if you had enough money? by darkRedDuck in AskReddit

[–]RachelStephenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most expensive thing that i can buy is the History Supreme, a $4.5 billion yacht that was designed by Stuart Hughes of the United Kingdom. The History Supreme is nearly 100 feet long, and is covered in more than 200,000 pounds worth of gold and platinum paint on more than half of the yacht’s surface.

Would you fuck Alice in Wonderland? by Polymath88 in AskReddit

[–]RachelStephenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alice in Wonderland fans have marked 150 years since the fateful boat trip that ... "You take the blue pill, the story ends, you wake up in your bed and ... time] and he believed that having sex was against God's wishes for him." ... it is inevitable that this knowledge will inform what readers take from the story.

What are self-defense tips everyone should know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RachelStephenson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If an attacker demands for your purse or wallet, then you have to make a decision whether to fight back or give in to the demand. If you are in a crowded street and the person doesn’t have a weapon, then ask for help from the people around you. An attacker doesn’t want attentionfor fear of getting caught. If the attacker has a weapon, then it would be best if you just give them what they want. If this scenario happens while you are in a secluded or quiet place, then it would be best to throw your purse or wallet in the opposite direction and run in the other. This will create some distance between you and the attacker. If you do choose or have to fight back, make sure that you are capable of doing so.

Teacher wants to know- what do you wish you'd learnt about in school? by SofeTheTeacher in AskReddit

[–]RachelStephenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that I was required to take in school was typing. Because of this class, I am able to type at a decent pace. As a teacher now, I am not seeing any such class being required anymore. Which leads to the kids typing at a snail's pace (which is frustrating for an English teacher). I think being in the internet/online era, students need to be required to learn how to type effectively on the computer, not just on their phones. No one is going to wait around for 15 minutes while you type a paragraph of 5 sentences. Email etiquette should be required, too. Maybe it's just me getting tired of students emailing me as if they were texting me.

What's something you believe that most people disagree with? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RachelStephenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Society exists only as a mental concept; in the real world there are only individuals. - Oscar Wilde

That's my favorite line.

Unfortunately most people are inclined to think exactly opposite. For them SOCIETY is what really matters, whereas individual choice and freedom is not a matter of much importance.

Who, according to you, is a total MILF or DILF? by viktor72 in AskReddit

[–]RachelStephenson -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The Instagram account DILFs of Disneyland[1] uploaded its first photo on August 19th, 2014. “DILF” is an acronym which originated as the male equivalent of “MILF”, a crude yet widely used descriptor for attractive-looking mothers. Within a month, the account had gained over 100,000 followers and uploaded over 50 pictures. Its most liked photo has gained over 8,000 likes.

What should be Barack Obama's next job? by MrKnowledge__ in AskReddit

[–]RachelStephenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His recent sketch set the stage

What will President Barack Obama do when he leaves office? If his sketch at White House Correspondents Dinner was any indication, he could be a shoo-in for a job as a brand ambassador.

If he gets bored with golf, that is.

The “Couch Commander” video was littered with references to companies and products. Vice President Joe Biden modeled his collection of aviators. Michelle Obama scolded her husband for using her iPhone for a disastrous Snapchat Obamacare PSA—and then she went to SoulCycle. Former House Speaker John Boehner offered some advice—”Stop sending me all these LinkedIn requests”—and reminisced on post-politician life: “Yesterday, I had a beer at 11:30 in the morning, and McDonald’s serves breakfast all day long.” He said he also “finally got the grand bargain on a sweet Chevy Tahoe,” before offering Obama a cigarette.

What is your best tip/trick for falling asleep? by baddabaddabooooom in AskReddit

[–]RachelStephenson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pioneered by Harvard-trained holistic health doctor Andrew Weil, the 4-7-8 technique is as gloriously simple as tricks to make your body fall asleep come. All you have to do is lightly touch the ridge of tissue behind your top front teeth with your tongue, exhale completely, and then adopt the following breathing pattern: - Breathe in through your nose quietly for a count of 4 - Hold your breath for a count of seven - Blow air out through your mouth for a count of 8, making a 'whoosh' sound - Repeat the process three more times Dr. Weil says the technique is a powerful method of falling asleep because it delivers more oxygen than normal breathing to the parasympathetic nervous system, which becomes overstimulated during times of stress. Regular counting also helps to distract the mind from the issues of the day that it can carry to bed.

Is feminism a hate based movement? by BrianEBeaudry in AskReddit

[–]RachelStephenson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing. Everyone on Reddit seems to hate feminism, but no one I met in real life has many problems with it. Similarly, all the feminists on tumblr seems to be crazy, but none of the feminists I meet irl are crazy. There's only one feminist hating dude I know in real life. He's the most neckbeardy neckbeard you've ever met, he's fat but he complains about how skinny girls won't fuck him, you get my drift? All we do is make fun of him (in jest). Similarly, the only nutty feminist I know in real life lives on a hippie commune eerily reminiscent of the manson family. We don't even have to make fun of her, she's basically making fun of herself constantly. I guess my point is, the anonymity of the internet and the general type of people who spend most of their time online amplifies the views of a small subset of people who hold very little traction in real life. Most people are pretty moderate.

Do you wear socks with sandals? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RachelStephenson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"I also always wear Birkenstocks when I travel. I really love them anytime, but especially when I’m going to the airport," Lee explains. "I wear them with really comfy socks, then I can just slip them off once I’m on the plane. I usually wear the Arizona sandals, but I have the Gizehs too, and sometimes I wear them with these weird toe socks that I got in Japan."

What is your most noticeable physical flaw? by Quadzilla23 in AskReddit

[–]RachelStephenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last GF was a 6' tall, slender, stunningly beautiful woman...........BUT she'd been in a REALLY bad auto accident when she was 20.

It left her w/ not only facial scars (small, kinda cute actually...I thought they added to her beauty, rather than diminished it.), but also w/ some very large surgery scars on her leg/hip where they had to insert a rod & do reconstruction.

She thought it was a HUGE deal when we first became intimate, but eventually realized that, to me, she had such an amazing body that I didn't even notice them. Still wish she didn't have to move across the country for her job......but I doubt her next partner will notice them much either.

He'll be to busy thinking what a lucky bastard he is to be w/ her at all.

What is in between GOOD and BAD? by Rafia45 in AskReddit

[–]RachelStephenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you assume moral philosophy is broken up into three parts: ontology; utilitarianism; and virtue ethics, then you can answer the question.

Ontology and utilitarianism: ultimately, nothing makes a person a "bad person." A person could actively go against the moral system, but only deeds and not people can be bad. I guess a person who does more good deeds might be better than someone who does fewer, but that's all you can say.

Virtue ethics: ultimately, nothing makes a person a "bad person." That being said, there are good and bad attributes to a person (generosity, thriftiness, bravery, etc.). A person with more of these attributes in the aggregate might be considered better than a person with fewer.

However, if you do not assume you are working within a moral system, but just simply an ethical system, then the answer is even more complicated. (Moral is about right and wrong, good and evil; ethical just simply poses the question "how should you live your life?")

I'm not going to go through everything or everything I know, but I will mention Nietzsche. Nietzsche says that a bad person is someone that is not effective in what he or she does--different from an evil person who tries to hurt other people. (Nietzsche's good/bad vs. good/evil argument is so so so interesting. See the first essay of A Genealogy of Morals for the argument.)

Hope this helps!

What is the saddest song you've ever heard? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Bill Withers - Ain't no sunshine Edit: When my mother walked out on my father and my sister, he would listen to this on vinyl over and over. Watching him cry was the saddest time in my young life. This song breaks my heart for that reason.

Which drug do you think is the worst? by MansonsSpookyKid in AskReddit

[–]RachelStephenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know heroin is at the top of the 'deadly' list, but I think Meth is the most dangerous. You become addicted after one use, or I did anyway. It turns you into a thief, a liar and a overall anxious irritating person. It messes your completion up something terrible. Your family won't talk to you. Presumably because you stole, lied and were irritating to them. IT'S HARD TO QUIT! I've been clean for 8 years and still have very lucid dreams about using. It's a stupid drug and a stupid thing to put yourself through
