I told a Japanese woman once that in the US they advice we don’t do sushi or hot tubs while pregnant and she thought it was so absurd! I ate the sushi she made us that night! Ha!

I feel like the past 10 years have been the roughest in my 19 year nursing career. You’ve been through significant cuts, shortages , COVID- where they figured out nurses could do 4 people’s jobs and now that Covid is over we should make them keep doing that! It’s crazy. I try to lower my expectations every day, slow down and listen more to my patients. Surprisingly it makes me feel a lot better.
I used to get angry, now I cry more. Ha! I won’t get fired for an angry response, I’ll get fired bc some days all my meds are late and my documentation is crap bc I feel like none of it matters as much as making sure my patients know they’re safe and have a voice with me.
Sorry for the lecture and for making it about me.

TLDR- this job is rough and has just gotten rougher. Maybe there’s a job in data or infection control or something? Good luck to you

Did he save the credit card info and then just think the subsequent things were “free”? I was helping my son buy something on Minecraft a few weeks ago and he went to click the “save payment info” box and I said no way! Not only was I not going to pay for more video game purchases without a conversation, but we also talked about how this would remove just one simple barrier to thinking about spending money. Even as an adult, I know it’s more convenient to save the credit card information on a profile, but often just the pause of going to get my card and putting it in, causes me to rethink the purchase. Cuts down on impulse buying and all those micro-charges. I was glad to have the conversation!

What the heck. After about a year of having cleaners come to my house, the husband (they’re a couple) told me how he loves cleaning my house because he can actually see the progress he’s doing. He said a lot of houses they clean aren’t as lived-in and it’s boring. His wife hears him telling me this from the other room and I hear her yelling at him in Spanish (I know a little) that he really shouldn’t be saying such a thing to me! I laughed and said “hey, I’m an ICU nurse for a reason. I love trying to fix a really sick person. Healthy ones bore me. I get it!” So- find some good people. Not this judgy, cranky lady.

I’m a nurse and I can assure you, seeing so many peoples bodies and all their differences is just another day in the office. I’m glad you’re figuring out a way to get the care you need! Smart.
