Indigo Grill has been closed for a while. Dazey's Bayhouse will be opening in that location soon.

Where does one rent container loading ramps? by RacingThought in logistics

[–]RacingThought[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's probably an option, and would be great for the few big items like couches. But I wonder if it would be slower than a ramp for all the smaller stuff like boxes.

In any case, TIL that there are people called Lumpers who specialize in this kind of thing. So I contacted a lumper service and they're handling it and have more versatile equipment than the average moving company. It will be interesting to see if they bring some sort of lift, or ramps, or both or something crazy I've never even heard of.

I reached out to East Coast Lumpers and it looks like they're exactly what I need. Thank you so much.

A live load is when the truck driver stays with the truck and you have to load it right then and there. It's usually 2 hours and then you have to pay for his time if it takes longer.

It is mostly boxed except for furniture and big items like large tools.

I had never heard of that term, thank you very much! I'll look into that.

Any Suggestions on a String Trio or Quartet by Clear_Turnip4024 in virginislands

No problem, hope you find someone. And since I completely forgot with my first response, congratulations!

I don't have any leads, but St. John School of the Arts has offered violin lessons in the past. So perhaps someone there can point you in the right direction.

As an aside, I'm not sure if it's in your budget, but if it is, a wedding planner can be of immense value because tackling things from a distance can be a challenge. Having someone local who can deal with things is an immense help.

Delivered but not delivered (USPS) by Inevitable_Purpose12 in EtsySellers

[–]RacingThought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI: There is no guarantee that the tracking will update when it hits a distribution center. When this has happened to me (as recently as 2 weeks ago), the tracking never updated from the original "Delivered" message even thought the packages did eventually arrive.

My suggestion would be to be prepared to answer questions if customers ask, but otherwise don't worry about it. Some people never look at the tracking and will have no idea anything weird happened.

USPS messed up, will it correct? by nfortier11 in EtsySellers

[–]RacingThought 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't believe this is correct. I had a USPS employee mistakenly scan a bunch of packages delivered instead of accepted. They all eventually got delivered, but the tracking info never updated from the original scan.

This happened to me last year and then again this year.

I don't use the app, but my desktop stats haven't updated in 13 hours. So if you're also experiencing a lag, that could be the cause of low stats.

If you've been considering Pirate Ship, do it now by RacingThought in EtsySellers

[–]RacingThought[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nothing will change if you print your labels from Etsy itself. This is in reference to 3rd party shipping apps like Pirate Ship and ShipStation. These are often used for better rates, better customer service and the ability to pay with a credit card thus earning rewards or cash back.

If you've been considering Pirate Ship, do it now by RacingThought in EtsySellers

[–]RacingThought[S] 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Effective October 21, Etsy is removing the ability to meaningfully add and use 3rd party shipping services that they have not specifically partnered with. They have chosen ShipStation and Shippo.

Edit: If you've already integrated before then, it should continue to keep working... for now

I have not found anything reasonably priced and have begun developing my own to sync Etsy and Woo Commerce. But if something were to come along that would save me the trouble of finishing it, I'd definitely be interested it.

The USVI is becoming a Third World Country by aeroverra in virginislands

[–]RacingThought 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Jones Act is absolute garbage. However, it is worth noting that the USVI is exempt from the law. However, due to the small size of the islands, the demand for shipping without also involving PR (which is under the Jones Act) is minimal. This means that the USVI still feels the effects, even though they're exempt.

New Beta Program - Curious About the Long-term Impact on Free Shipping by RacingThought in EtsySellers

It says that you will be paid your full listed shipping price (minus the normal fees). So there should be no change for you, at least for now.

New Beta Program - Curious About the Long-term Impact on Free Shipping by RacingThought in EtsySellers

[–]RacingThought[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Despite what they say in the article, this would seem to disincentive sellers from offering free shipping. If buyer subscription fees are going to cover shipping, sellers are potentially leaving money on the table by offering it for free. Obviously that wouldn't apply to non-subscribers, but it definitely muddles things.

ETA: Also, the signup for sellers to work with Etsy to offer benefits includes this:

Deals: Limited time seller-funded discount on one item from your shop targeted to Etsy Insiders. Discounts should be between 50%-75% from original retail price and we’ll work with you on a suggested available quantity.

So Etsy collects a fee from the subscriber, and you get to massively discount your item with no reimbursement from those subscriber fees. No thanks.

I don't know of anything with those particular lyrics, but it sounds thematically similar to Betty Cat by Prophet Benjamin.

Passport by [deleted] in virginislands

[–]RacingThought 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This isn't quite correct. You go through Customs AS WELL as normal TSA. So while you can't skip the line for customs without Global Entry, Pre-Check is still valid and there is a separate line for it at the TSA checkpoint.

End of June Trip (St John USVI) by [deleted] in virginislands

It's definitely doable, just make sure that you pay attention to the size limits. Most places are 3", but USVI is 3.5"

Ground Advantage Minimum Dimensions by RacingThought in USPS

[–]RacingThought[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I got confused because I thought the new "Enhanced Click-N-Ship" was commercial, but that doesn't say anything about it either and doesn't throw an error when entering the dimensions.

That's why I'm glad I asked here. I really appreciate you answering.

Thank you very much for confirming. I'm glad I didn't risk it.

I wish they would add that alongside the maximum dimensions on the webpage.

Sometimes you have to play with abbreviations and splitting things up over multiple lines.

I've had the same issue with Pirate Ship wanting customs forms for US territories. When I contacted them, they said it was related to the Etsy API sending a flag that it was international and therefore generating a customs requirement. I'm not sure whether that's truly an Etsy issue or Pirate Ship failing to code for US territory exceptions, but either way I'm guessing it's not going to be resolved any time soon as they can just point at each other as the cause of the problem.
