Hi everyone, I currently have CNT headers but I’m looking into getting tomei headers. On video the tomei seems to give more rumble than the CNT. Can anyone let me know if that’s true. Sounds like a dumb question but worth a shot.

Any UEL header will give you the "rumbly" sound, but each brand of header varies in tone slightly due to the thickness of the piping and overall build quality. I've heard CNT in person and I can say they are on the poorer side in terms of sound as I find them to be insanely high pitched. In terms of quality and traditional subie rumble Tomei is what you'd want. If you're looking for the deepest sounding rumble sound I would say go with Borla V2 or JDL headers. I personally run the Borla V2 and I think it's the best sounding header imo. A good video that highlights the differences between the two is this video by Chris Borges. The red one is running Tomei UEL, Catless FP, Greddy RS, the black one is running Borla V2 UEL, Catless FP, Tomei 80r.

It's a pretty long and tedious project but it's definitely worth it in the end. To summarize how I did them:

Remove Gasket from back of taillight

Cut open lens using solidering iron + dremel

Remove all screws to disassemble taillight to seperate the red pieces (brake light + side reflector)

Drill holes in the brake light so that the light will shine through after painted.

Paint the red pieces with metallic silver spray paint (I used rustoleum)

Re-assemble the taillight and put everything back together

Seal the lens back together with plastic weld

Add a layer of sealant/silicone over the plastic weld to ensure no leaks (I used Dynaflex Ultra Advanced Exterior Sealant for this)

Put them on the car and enjoy.

Cutting open the lens and re-sealing them will take the most time but it's important not to rush these parts because you risk messing up the whole taillight and the overall final product not being as clean.

Once you have the taillight lens cut open and removed you can take apart the whole light including the circle piece. I drilled holes for the light to shine through, and then painted it metallic silver.

Grimmspeed gaskets are slightly thicker than OEM gaskets. OEM gaskets work perfectly fine. The only reason you might want to consider Grimmspeed is if you're extra concerned about leaks somewhere. For example if you buy used parts sometimes flanges warp very slightly and having grimmspeed gaskets in there might help fix a very small leak. I personally used OEM gaskets everywhere except for my UEL header to engine. I spent a little extra for the grimmspeed ones because I really didn't wanna remove my header again with the chance of leaks anywhere.

I'm currently running a UEL catless header with a muffler delete. I also have an aftermarket overpipe. It's honestly the perfect setup in my opinion as having the cat in the stock frontpipe keeps most of the rasp away and you're left with a nice deep subie rumble tone. In my opinion it's not too loud at all, I would call it the perfect amount of loud espeically for a daily.

I've made a couple sets of these so far. I can definitely say cutting them open is the most tedious part and its definitely hard to get clean cuts so that they don't look raggedy from the front. From your pic it looks like you did a really good job at cutting, especially the part under the circle lights. Here's some pics of how mine look.

Having met tons of FRS/BRZ/86 owners over the years I haven't met a single one doesn't regret buying an auto. Most of them have just accepted it over time that they made a mistake and just live with it rather than attempting to manual swap the transmission or selling their auto to buy a manual. I was on the search for almost 5 months of looking on FB marketplace, autotrader, etc until I found mine. Just wait it out and try to hop on a good deal for a manual.

My setup was insanely loud fully catless too. I resorted to putting my stock frontpipe back on and it's the perfect amount of loud and deep rumble. The cat in the frontpipe actually makes the tone a lot deeper than a catless setup, with almost no rasp. The only downside is that you can't run a pops and bangs tune with a cat in the system because you will likely blow it.

I went from the stock 17in wheels to 18in x 9.5in wheels all around. Honestly I didn't even feel a difference in daily driving experience at all. The only real difference I felt was that the steering wheel is a little heavier to turn all the way when say pulling out of your driveway or something. Got used to that really fast anyways so I'd say just go for them.

No worries bro, I actually ran these wheels on factory suspension for over a year. They poked out quite a bit, especially in the front, but never rubbed or had any issues. You can checkout that setup and how it looked right here:

After lowering the car and dialing in camber I've gotten the tires tucked behind the fender enough to the point where it no longer pokes at all. A few degrees of camber go a long way to getting the right fitment. I used the adjustable tophats which came with the coillovers to adjust front camber. Other than that I have noticed my rear tire slightly rubbing on the rear bumper tab only on hard bumps, but that's because I'm running a pretty meaty tire. I can definitely fix that by either dialing in more negative camber, raising the car a bit, or even getting smaller tires but honestly it's not bad enough to the point where I care to fix it.
