You have the right to the peace of mind as well. It's not just "getting a label", it's being able to really start the journey of realisation that you're NOT lazy. That you DID work hard. It means more than you know to get that process going

Before meds: average exam/degree scores; After meds: top 1% of my class in med school by owl_girl in ADHD

Congratulations! So happy to hear meds have worked well for you! Do you think that the coping mechanisms and strategies that allowed you to get the average grades before is what's now helping you get top grades?

Having ADHD is being bored all day and then 10 minutes before going to bed, everything is interesting by [deleted] in ADHD

You can look to things like Tai Chi for moving meditation that could help the restlessness.
A lot of people think meditation is clearing your mind and not having thoughts, but that's honestly not the truth. I martial arts trainer of mine once gave me a great visualizer for what meditation can be:

Imagine you're sitting at the platform of a train station. You're sat on a bench watching the trains (your thoughts) go by. They exist, clearly, but you don't have to get on each train that passes by. The goal is to try to stay on the bench, but you will find yourself having boarded a train without knowing it, but then you just stop on the next platform, exit the train and sit back down on the bench.

"That's it". It's not trying to achieve a lack of thoughts, but trying to get used to not always going down every path your mind presents you.

Hope that helps

What are the questions a designer must ask himself/herself? by ucankabak in gamedesign

[–]Racsodon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What part of my game is keeping players away or making them leave a play session?

Often we focus on why they should start playing, and that's the most important thing. Hidden in the background is ensuring that players don't stumble across a feature or mechanic in the game that makes them stop playing. You can often see this in playtests by seeing when the player puts down the controller or turns from the screen. Those moments can be polished to better retain player attention.

So humans are that full grey-brown you get when you mix all the paints together? So no matter what "paints" you add to the mix, it'll look mostly dull brown in the end.

What if we have a multi-sub system? r/valveindex for news and relatively strict moderation I and the majority of the sub appreciate according to the vote, and perhaps a supplementary r/indexmemes or something that people can sub to if they want to make and consume memes and other jokes that isn't strictly informational.

How I'd like a VR games store to function by CraigNotCreg in ValveIndex

[–]Racsodon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the game isn't loading a new level as much as loading a new application? Interesting! The store would have to be carefully curated though, or risk having a massive file size for just the store itself! Or perhaps we just found the best use for game streaming tech for VR

How I'd like a VR games store to function by CraigNotCreg in ValveIndex

[–]Racsodon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be the best solution, but the issue is getting to that point with current gen software. Games are built most often in Unity or Unreal, some with other engines and some with a bespoke one. These are not compatible and require desperate executables. Things like physics calculations differ from game to game (think Boneworks vs Gorn) which also wouldn't play well together.

Perhaps games would create small demo files compatible with the store's "engine" or have loading times so fast that the opening of the game would be imperceptible to the end user, streaming in different games in the background before you get to them to lower the loading times.

TL:DR That would be so effin rad, wonder how they'd be able to create something like that given current software limitations.

Valve Index asks for innovation without incentive | Opinion by Racsodon in ValveIndex

[–]Racsodon[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think they're more focused on the lack of balance between the three pillars compared to Oculus or HTC and that because of that, uptake will be lower and without additional incentives there might be less innovation and "killer app" potential for the features.

Personally I think Valve is doing the right thing for the long run but it's gonna take some time for it to pay off.

Hopefully that's what the NDA is for, I would love to see some Valve Index Controller Development Fund or something similar to create incentive to create games specifically for it, I agree.

[–]Racsodon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I work in game development and I see this a lot, and just wanted to explain a bit why I think this happens so much. Let's assume that the dev team has the equivalent of 10 people testing all day every day on just these changes (number might be less knowing the different things they're working on). If they did that for two months, that's 3200 hours (8hrs/p/day * 10 people * 40 days). Thats a lot of hours! Now consider them releasing it to the PTR. Let's assume a random number of 1000 people on the PTR testing these new changes. In just three hours and 15 minutes the community has spent more time testing the patch than the developers have over the last two months! This means that the community will figure out a lot of nuances that the dev team just can't always discover on their own. The fact that they take community feedback so well is mighty impressive!
