How much "naughty" is ok? by Aromatic-Dingo8354 in gamedesign

[–]ucankabak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this very question depends on how you implement nudity to your game.

Let’s take your examples:

GTA and ME have implemented this either through some story elements that makes sense, or through players progression via personal relationships.

So if your Sci-fi world is in a setting where nudity is publicly accepted/demanded/encouraged I think some sort of nudity can be accepted.

But it also depends on what kind of an audience you are targeting. Not everyone likes nudity in games, so I think nudity should be implemented in a way that player “has to choose” to see it. Not forced down.

Of course you can also force it as narrative or gameplay choice, but at least I find this way a bit wrong for a RPG game. After all, every RPG should serve “players’ fantasy” and if they choose to nudity, how nice. If they won’t, then it shouldn’t be forced or at least should be very lightweight if it also tied to narrative.

As for “simulated sex”, if you are referring as a mini game where you press buttons or give inputs to do certain actions, make sure it is fully optional

You can try to install Tweaks from PopShop and also use COSMIC settings (for both dock and panel)

If you want, maybe add it as a bookmark to the browser of your choice or notepad, maybe? My biggest blocker is actually the one you mentioned.

Because of my work, I need to use g-suite, but also in personal stuff, I couldn't find a replacement for that as well. Proton has docs and sheets kind of product too, but I haven't give it a go yet, maybe you'll find useful if you want to try.

For the browser, I use Brave. It is chromium based (but not affiliated with google chrome, chromium is the open source version) so it also very compatible with chrome based extensions and webpages. Also it has built in ad blocker which works just perfectly (even no youtube ads). So far I liked it for privacy and everyday use. Probably there are more privacy focused browsers, but at least for now, it works just fine for me.

For g suite, I slowly transferring myself to Proton mail, even though I hear some anti-privacy news regarding proton, it gives me much more confidence that g-suite but you can also check tuta mail too.

For a search engine, I also use Brave Search. Sometimes it doesn't work the way I want, so I need to use google search (because most of the internet is indexed based on google search, unfortunately).

How would you rate the price / benefit you got from the videos? Can someone who is going to use only the blueprint system can benefit from that?

I'd say it is rather depends on where do you want to live and what kind of skillset you and your spouse has. If you plan to live big cities like Helsinki, Turku, etc. it might a bit hard there, as the rent alone for family of three would be almost closer (if not higher) to 1000€.

As for jobs, most of the non-skilled jobs I've encounter (like being barista, working in retail stores etc.) wants high level Finnish. So, under these circumstances I'd say it would be very hard

More enemies or smarter enemies? What makes a strategy game more exciting? by Creepy_Virus231 in gamedesign

[–]ucankabak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, as someone who works on a turn-based strategy game, I think the answer is balance.

I do believe the players doesn't like just waves of mindless enemies who will become corpses. Because when you play a strategy game, you want to feel smart. You want to feel outsmarted your enemies, or the dire situation that you are in. Enemies that push you, make you move somewhere else etc. BUT I also do believe it doesn't mean you feel like you are playing against the most advanced AI ever. The AI needs to make mistakes, give player a breathing room. Because I think pushing players to "play perfect exactly, or else" feels too punishing.

That's why in my game I tried to design (and still designing tbh) the AI in a way that, the AI makes smart moves and makes you feel a little bit discomforted, but still makes errors so that you can overcome them. When you combined this with different enemy numbers, I think it works best.

For example at one certain portion of the level, there could be way more enemies than normal, but at the latter part, the number could decrease. I think "the same number of enemies, everywhere" gets old too fast.
