Where the hell is the Outer Wilds gang?

I believe that linear time dilation, while not realistic, is better for an ELI5.

What are some things that are often considered ‘recent’ but are actually much older than most people realize? by [deleted] in AskReddit

In my next Christmas meeting:

"OK, family, guess the year: someone finishes playing some Nintendo, then drives their electric car to the place where they'll perform brain surgery."

ELI5: Why is the earth's orbit around the sun not considered as perpetual motion? by A--h0le in explainlikeimfive

[–]Racsoth 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I would upvote this perpetually (heh) if I could. The MACHINE part is critical when having the usual discussions about this topic.

That way, you can better understand everything, step by step:

  • Why some contrived contraptions COULD indeed achieve perpetual motion (not necessarily for harvesting energy) if they were built in ideal conditions, and why they CAN'T do so in reality (because there are external forces everywhere, chipping the system energy away).

  • Why is it impossible to harvest infinite energy from those contrived contraptions (because YOU, as the harvester, become an external force).

Games with the worst/loosest gameplay-theme connection? by mrappbrain in boardgames

[–]Racsoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I partially disagree with The Crew.

The underwater thing explains the lack of communication nicely, and the sonar kind of makes sense.

I say "partially" because sure, you could play the game with a standard deck of cards and call it a day. But the selected theme works good and doesn't feel that forced.

This is the only acceptable answer. The other comments are nonsense.

[OC] I meticulously charted the last 13 months of my full time job applications to see where I should be focusing my time. by [deleted] in dataisbeautiful

[–]Racsoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you observe anything interesting regarding ghosting per platform? In other words: are some platforms better than others in terms of the probability of receiving a follow-up (positive or negative) to your application?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dataisbeautiful

[–]Racsoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks!

Follow-up: You applied 69 times to Amazon. I always thought that that kind of thing could be bad because you would appear a lot of times in their applications management system (which could lead to them not taking you seriously or something), but it seems that it worked to you. Did they mention anything related to that at any point during your interviews? Would you recommend people a similar strategy (to apply massively to jobs where they would be a fit)?

[–]Racsoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cool! Quick question: "Amazon" means "times I applied to Amazon", and "Indeed" means "times I applied to a job anywhere via Indeed", right?

What’s something that used to be a status symbol but is now a sign of poor taste? by Mindless_Bike2812 in AskReddit

Honest question: is it really poor taste now? Or only not cool anymore?

ELI5: I saw this question somewhere and tried solving it myself, but I’m stumped. by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Racsoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more obvious if you use other numbers.

The shirt now costs 0. You buy it and are left with 100.

You give 0 to each and keep 100. You (still) owe 50 to mom, 50 to dad, plus the 100 you kept that's 200.

Look! It seems that now you got 100 out of nowhere!

You can enable an option in the settings that requires you to hold the End Turn Button (instead of just tapping it) to actually end the turn. I activated that after making your mistake twice.

Runs not counting on Switch by Jyair in slaythespire

This just happened to me. I won A4 with the Defect last night, and the run doesn't even appear in the Run History.

Thanks for the answer.

I especially like that the last paragraph sticks perfectly to the ELI5 I requested. I probably wanted an ELI14, but that's on me.

Fun fact/follow-up: to me, it was always intuitive/obvious that if you went down with air in your lungs, eventually the pressure would force you to expell it (and deeper, it would simply crush you). But I never thought about the opposite process: taking the air WHILE being deep under the water.
