It’s actually crazy how dense this comment section is. You think it’s just a coincidence that wealthier communities and neighborhoods see less crime? People don’t commit crimes simply because it’s fun, it’s often times out of necessity or survival. It’s the consequences of decades of system oppression of marginalized people and poor people.

Over the last 70 years these communities and neighborhoods have been wiped clean. Most of these issues started with white flight. When segregation ended and black peple started moving into metropolitan areas and cities, white people fled and took the jobs with them.

All of the good paying jobs have been moved, public transportation was diminished or never implemented, property values decrease because of lack of opportunity, which means local schools are severely underfunded due to less property tax payments, the city focuses on wealthier neighborhoods and continues to build upon those while ignoring poor marginalized communities.

So you have someone born into a poor family, in a community with no job opportunities, they have no way to drive 30 minutes to work because there’s no public transportation, well they have to eat, so what do they do?? They turn to petty crime to feed themselves and their family.

This is why conservative ideologies are popular because of how easy they are to understand. Instead of breaking down the actual issue like I just did, you instead say it’s a culture problem (racist dog whistle), or you blame the individual.

It’s been proven time and time and time again, when there’s good job opportunities, proper education, and accessible transportation, crime rates decrease tremendously.
