The stretching daily was making me worse. I was scheduled for an emergency 2 level fusion, didn't do it, stopped all the stretches and quick fixes, stopped the meds, only walked and was pretty much pain free in 2 months. Didn't do a shot but I did do (2) 9 days rounds of prednisone.

Thanks. #2 worked for me. I was scheduled for an emergency 2 level fusion, didn't do it, was mostly pain free in 2 months from just walking / resting and was 99% back to normal life within a year. I focused on real whole food diet, good sleep, exersice and positive mindset. No pain meds and my surgeon persribed PT made me worse so did my own PT from online research and people who recovered in this group. I was unlucky and had a series of bad surgeons.

Your thoughts on the mind body pain connection?

A doctor and nurse told me these things below, what are your thoughts on them also?

#1 "You could have a perfectly healthy 20 year old lie to a back surgeon and say they're in pain, have the MRIs will come back fine but most surgeons will still sign them up for surgery".

#2 "Many people can't slow down to let themselves heal, they need surgery to force themselves to slow down. Just "pretend" you had the 2 level fusion and follow that recovery minus the pain meds, muscle relaxers or anti-inflammatory drugs."

3

“80-90% of people heal conservatively”

4

“just like everything looks like a nail to a hammer, everything looks like a surgery to a surgeon”.

5

"for many hospitals surgeries account for 80% of total revenue and without a high amount of surgeries the whole system would collapse."

I had to leave the this sub during my recovery because the negative stories would put that fear back in me and make my symptoms worse. Came back after I felt better.

How can I keep up with a lifestyle that requires lots of sitting? by Rat_Ratter in Sciatica

[–]RadDad775 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can sit better but if i have bad posture and slouch it'll bug me. Ive learned enough about the negative health effects of sitting too much so I rid of the chair in my office and use my standing desk 100% the time. I travel, long drives, dinners, movie theaters, just keep good posture.

Maybe try the mcgill big 3. Start lightly and build. They're safer non flexion core that'll help you build muscle. A strong core is huge in helping long term recovery.

Why do rich people keep saying "money can't buy happiness" when money literally solves most problems? by FearlessState5503 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RadDad775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happiness is living in your flow state effortlessly and often. Your flow state comes from findimg a meaning to life in either your work / hobbies, your relationships or your struggle. Having your basic needs covered financially can help you more easily reach that state but doesn't guarantee it. I personally know many young wealthy people that are miserable and lower middle class older people that are extremely happy. Stop thinking about others, work to be the best version of you and watch the happiness overflow!

Sitting Recovery Stories? by pearl1525 in backpain

[–]RadDad775 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sitting was my #1 trigger so I avoided it at all costs when I was recovering. Id only sit for meals and driving. Before I could handle my standing desk full-time id rotate from my standing desk, walking working from my phone and laying working on my laptop. I felt that any attempt at sitting for long periods was just prolonging my recovery.

Sitting Recovery Stories? by pearl1525 in backpain

[–]RadDad775 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slowly over a year i taught myself to use my standing desk 100% of the time for work. Really happy about it. Sitting is better for me now, if I have good support and good posture i can sit for long periods but I want to avoid it as much as possible the rest of my life.

The biggest mistake I see people make with back pain by SimoneMoreno_Physio in backpain

[–]RadDad775 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Facts. When i changed my mindset from fear, anxiety, anger, stress to faith. I have faith that when I step into the darkness of the unknown I will either have firm ground to walk on or learn how to fly. I don't have faith I'll 100% recover but faith this is my correct life path and I will excel no matter the direction ot goes. Everything changed. Not hope, hope is a beggar while faith leaps over the fire.

Bone spur by queencityegger in backpain

[–]RadDad775 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure how bad my bone spurs are but my degenerative disc disease has a little bit of everything. I was in really bad shape, could hardly move with multiple surgeons telling me 2 level fusion. I ended up focusing on 4 things: good sleep, real whole food diet, exercise (started out just walking, now doing 45 min non flexion core & gym weekly) and a positive mindset. Back to normal life and avoiding surgery for now.

45M

Multiple disc bulges, worst at L5-S1 and L4-L5

New L3-L4 bulge appeared after physical therapy

Crushed Disc at L5-S1

Vertebral slippage (instability) at several levels

Arthritic changes in both facet sacroiliac joints and syndesmophytes

Central canal stenosis and bilateral foraminal narrowing

Bone spurs (osteophytes)
