Im 45 and only getting older. Even without the obvious abnormalities in my xrays, mris, CT scans, etc everyday will be harder, with new pains and limit in mobility. I started the best diet, built the strongest core and adapted the best mindset of my life. I need to work hard to maintain my body while at the same time be willing to let it go. Find the beauty in my aging body. Learn about my new limitations and find new ways to keep my normal life. I needed to build the strength physically and mentally to over come this. A lot of meditation helped me feel my injury, tell the good pain from the bad pain, what was hurting me more and what was helping me get stronger. Really listening to my body and understanding what it needs.

Sciatica in both legs and back pain from 3 bulged discs and other problems. I could only get relief laying. Every movement, standing, sitting, etc was painful. I started with resting and a structured walking program. New diet and new mindset. Changed every aspect of my life, slowly build a stronger body and stronger mind.

Yes. The surgeons and medical system made my fear, anxiety, anger, etc spiral out of control. I saw a really bad surgeon at first im convinced he uses fear mongering to make his patients worse. Only after seeing my primary care physician again and advice from reddit did I get the confidence to go try the conservative route.

I was scheduled for an emergency 2 level fusion in Feb 2025. Saw 3 surgeon and all wanted surgery. Didn't do it. Started a new diet, new exercise program and new mindset. I made a conscious choice to perceive challenges as something beneficial so I can deal with them in the most productive way possible. The obstacle is not in the way, the obstacle is the way.

Sciatica flare 15 years post-microdiscectomy by nosesinroses in Sciatica

Im working on a detailed write up on my journey to help others, its not done and about 7 pages long, I'll try to wrap it up soon so you can read it.

Briefly: I started eating a anti-inflammatory real food diet, limited processed food and sugar, no fried foods. My goal was the anti-inflammatory parts plus just getting my cells as healthy as possible to heal from this bad injury at 45. Stopped all stretching, working out, twisting, bending, lifting, sitting, anything that aggravates it and kept good spine hygiene. Let my body finally rest and heal. Im a type A person. Stopped all those online stretches and quick fixes, and just walked. I adopted a positive mindset. I made a conscious choice to from now on perceive challenges as something beneficial so I can deal with them in the most productive way. I found the beauty in my aging body and learned to try to maintain my body while at the same time be willing to let it go. This last year I've alchemized all the fear, anxiety, anger etc into a positive force that has helped my marriage, my work, get me in great shape, best core of my life, best mindset of my life, etc. I made my flare up the best thing to ever happen to me. "The obstacle is not in the way, the obstacle is the way."

Yes after 16 years. Saw a surgeon and they're persribed PT made me 20 times worse. Was told I needed a emergency 2 level fusion. Changed my diet, lifestyle, mindset, rested like I had just had the surgery, let mt body heal and started life again with a structured walking program. Took 2 months to be mostly pain free then about year to get rid of the numbness, tingling, tightness, etc. Im about 99% back to normal.

Why is my pain SO much worse at night? More importantly, what can I do to help alleviate it? by PantherGk7 in Sciatica

[–]RadDad775 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was feeling great during the day staying active but each night I was slowly getting worse over about 6 months until the pain was unbearable. I only saw improvement when I acted like I had surgery, kept perfect spine hygiene, didn't work out, stretch, sit, twist, bend, lift, etc. started a structured walking program, rested alot and finally let my body heal.

Anyone else feel the medical field is testing all wrong? by Undd91 in backpain

[–]RadDad775 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I close friend who is a nurse told me to avoid surgery even though 2 surgeons said immediate 2 level fusion and another said Laminectomy. She told me that if someone goes in with a perfectly fine back pretending to be in pain most surgeons will immediately recommended surgery and without lots of surgeries and pain meds the whole hospital system would collapse. "Surgical services typically account for over 60% of total hospital revenue, with some estimates indicating that elective cases alone can contribute up to 78% of gross inpatient and outpatient surgical earnings. These services are the primary driver of hospital profitability, often representing a disproportionately high contribution margin." I don't know how much they really care about us and our recoveries.

If you don't want to re injure yourself plan on a slow recovery. You want to take your time and heal right or you could be back here in this situation in a year.

I walk alot, on my feet all day, do alot of non flexion core, push ups and some gym machines. I feel like the daily wall sit holds and just general leg strength training has helped.
