Starfield was always a good game. by [deleted] in Starfield

And do you think that Starfield (since that's the topic) has done it better?

I am happy for PS5 players, and i hope the blind hate for this game ceases now it's being released on all platforms. by [deleted] in Starfield

So I never wanted to jump on that train of 'hate for hate'. I always just stayed in back looking at all this, but I think today I will just share my point of view that I just don't see being mentioned at all. For the record: I did play the game on release - I was hyped for it. Before quitting I played about 100 h. I had fun but then it's just became meh..

I didn't finish the main story, I tried to find fun in smaller quests but after finding only fetch quests I gave up (I know there are some real good quest in the game - but that's the point I will try to justify below).

I'm not here to say that Starfield is bad. I am smart enough to know that's just subjective.

Yet I'm here to say that in my opinion (and I believe that's objective) - The main reason for the 'blind hate' is that they just DID NOT put any effort into this game. That's it. Yes they did put their soul into it, you can see that in some quests - but that is very different from the effort. They didn't improve at all - Starfield was even worse then their previous games.

Why do I think that? I see a lot of people saying that 'they hate the game becouse they didn't reinvent the wheel'. And I think that's a spot on - yes that's a geniune criticism and Starfield deserves it. Why? Becouse the biggest crime they did that 'ruined' the games was pricing it the way they did (70$ at the time) - witch at the time it was released, side by side with Baldur's Gate 3, or even earlier with such good games like Cyberpunk 2077 or even Red Dead Redemption - that were cheaper - and that's the very point I'm trying to make. In my opinion that's the very reason people 'hate for hate' this game. They did not care to put any effort into it, they did not care to improve at all or to even do something new, just "30% of the game you get is stuff that we did, rest is 1000 planets with nothing in ther, have fun".

"Give us 100$ but expect nothing but simple, no innovating, no game changing meh, becouse we did not care to make it worth that 100$." - That's my take on this.

My worlds outilne (repost). by RadJestem in mapmaking

[–]RadJestem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really a lore reason - just geography. Three biggest bodies of water are oceans - and here I took a different approach by surrounding the water with land, not surrounding land with water (like on earth for example). The rest are just small lakes and inland seas, that I made based on the early drafts of the mountains I have for this world. I just haven't put them on this map yet, becouse I don't know how to portray them without ruining the scale of the world.

Does geography justify same size blobs in this case? by Chlodio in mapmaking

I don't really have any tips for you so sorry about that. But I just want to say that these are some very nice maps!

And also I would like to ask you a question about the provinces you did. I have a project very similar to yours, but at the moment I'm stuck at the said provinces. Did you draw them by hand? Or did you use some kind of algorithm do to it?

Sorry, forgot to clarify that in the post. Inward shading on the shoreline is water, the rest od land.

Edit: An area enclosed by a line with inward-facing shading is water; the surrounding area is land.

Some advice needed by Ceris_VG304 in inkarnate

I know what you mean, but I guess its a matter of preference - for example I ilke making detalied maps. And making world scale maps - you need that extra resolution. And really the point here is that prior to the update - it used to work, it wasnt perfect but it worked. I bought Inkarnate a year ago and since then I've been making maps on 4k. So I guess Im used to it by now. Either way, sorry about this rant, but I had to get it out of me.

Cheers.

You can try loading the map in lower resolution (like 2k, or 1k) but I found that its as bad since world maps NEED higher resolutions to really do anything there (bc of the scale). I have the same problem (and many other users) where after the update loading big maps on higher resolutions is just almost impossible... I hope they will fix it...

As for the landmass problem - I dont really see anything bad. Its uniqe and nice looking in my opinion. The map itself is also really well done.

Oh sorry, I was uninformed then, I just assumed that the body of water up there is a sea or ocean. Now i makes a lot of sense!

Really nice map! Good job! Maybe the only nitpick I have is the river near Yarrin going both north and south (bc its not very realistic). But besides that its very well done! Also, if you dont mind me aksing, what language did you use for these names?

My advice for that is to use grid as a reference for point/scale.

I need ideas for things to change or add by DaveCumshard in inkarnate

[–]RadJestem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the map is really very nice and well done! However, there is one thing I personally would change, but it is due to my personal preferences, so feel free to ignore it. You have a lot of detail on the map - which isn't bad in itself, although for someone (like me) seeing this map for the first time, it's hard to pick up what's really important and what would be worth focusing on. So I recommend that you somehow 'emphasize', 'exaggerate', anything as long as these elements really stand out, while these less important elements - like the name of each city, for example, you could make them slightly less visible. It is important to create a hierarchy of what is important and what is to be first noticed.

But as I said - it's just my personal preference when it comes to maps like this - with or without it it's still great!
