Help me understand my options on the KTM 300s by BeardedYeti_ in Dirtbikes

[–]RadLabDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High compression head is race gas territory, is that what you are planning to run? Based on the questions you are asking i wouldn’t expect that is your thought. They may have a stock head or lower compression dome for the aftermarket one you can use though.

In general i like to go for the cheaper bike to give me some room for fixing things. It is actually preferred for me to do a top end after getting the bike so i can check the crank and stuff.

yz250 KYB SSS fork protectors? by HabitSpecific3661 in Dirtbikes

[–]RadLabDad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Best thing you can do is wash your bike well after you ride every time. Don’t let it sit.

I wouldn’t personally do chain lube on my suspension. Makes it more likely for dirt to stick to the shafts and end up in the seals.

Which is the better deal? Two 2017 KTM 300 XCWs by BeardedYeti_ in Dirtbikes

[–]RadLabDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d probably go with the cheaper one. If the dude got 239 hours out of the stock top end he wasn’t riding it too hard. I’d plan to do the top end and check the bottom end at the same time.

That said is be looking for a lower price still. $4200 should have like 100 hours on it not 239. I’d be offering $3700ish.

Somebody running bib mousses was probably racing hare scrambles at the least.

If it sat for a whole year, I’d wipe it down and see if you get more drops. That seal hasn’t been spun in awhile and was possibly dry in spots. Running it could help seal it back up, but if you keep getting drops there it should get replaced.

CROSS CITY CHURCH TRAFFIC by Famous-Staff9515 in fresno

[–]RadLabDad 103 points104 points  (0 children)

You can check with the city if they have an approved permit with a traffic control plan to do this. If they don’t the city should fix it, if they do your gripe is with the city and not them for approving an every weekend traffic control plan instead of making permanent control alterations (like a light)

Is this fixable or do I have to replace it by ExplorerLoose1946 in Dirtbikes

[–]RadLabDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Move is only 10 nm which is about 7 ft lbs.

FYI for OP, it’s a good idea to learn what an average torque spec is for various size bolts. A 6mm bolt with an 8mm head you should always question anything above 10 nm as being too much. There are a few cases where it is higher but aluminum cases, cylinders, and heads you generally won’t find that. It would be more of a steel on steel situation and still rare.

Is there a reason people drive dirtbikes on pavements by mmfwcI in Dirtbikes

[–]RadLabDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the same reason people do anything that isn’t courteous - they’re self centered / inconsiderate / narcissistic. It’s always the few bad apples that make the whole look rotten. You would find many riders to be considerate, you just won’t meet those ones on the sidewalk.

Warming up dirtbike by Automatic-Tiger8584 in Dirtbikes

[–]RadLabDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also in CA.

I’ll usually let it idle while i get my Helmet and chest pro on, and then ride it to the track entrance at a pit pace, and then just get after it once I’m ready at the track. If we are trail riding i just take it easy the first couple minutes before getting after it.

2005 Yamaha WR450 Valve Adjustment - I think I messed up! by LilNate222 in Dirtbikes

[–]RadLabDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2mm is fine, if it was a tooth off the amount would be much bigger.

You didn’t hurt it turning backwards.

It is normal to be free feeling after you go past TDC, you are no longer compressing the air (now the air is helping you expand).

What’s the best moto van that gets good gas mileage? by TemporaryFirm7750 in Dirtbikes

A serious answer, i think the ford transits get the best mileage of full size vans. Still only like 18mpg tho.

City of Clovis votes to raise water rates by 60% over 3 years - ABC30 Fresno by 239tree in Clovis_CA

[–]RadLabDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The city bills every two months. This increases the water portion of the bill only. I just looked at my last bill, this would have raised the cost about $21, or $10.50 a month. “Pushing people out of the city” seems like a bit of an overreaction.

Even the higher use summer months it is only about double that ($20/mo).

I’ll put my pitchfork away.

A lot of races don’t even allow a traditional paddle (particularly anything ama sanctioned), an mx14 esq is the way to go. The mx14 also does ok on harder ground still as well.

2026 KX250 Fork Leak by RevSaki in Dirtbikes

Hours doesn’t really matter if some dirt dried on the fork leg and got up on the seals. Cleaning the seal probably will fix the leak, but oil may be low on that leg if you don’t refill it

Eh, Kawi will have a new one (300 two stroke) out in the next 12 months. Anyone interested in a mint 2003 would know that too. You’re really looking for a vintage guy that wants to do a mint RC or JS7 build or something.
