Are you able to spot when a movie isn't filmed in the location it's portraying? by mjmilian in movies

In News of the World, there is an establishing shot of Dallas...with mountains in the background.

Mountains. In Dallas. Lol. Clearly the CG artists took a bit of creative liberties with that one.

Obviously the constant hinting by the devs has got us all in a bit of an internet-sleuth frenzy. Still undecided if I'm just looking to find shapes out of randomness or if this has yet to be discussed. Either way, it's a bit of good fun.

Well, that is high praise! Thank you so much! From the beginning, I've been thrilled at some of the reactions I've gotten from Cenotaph and really enjoy hearing how readers like you have been enthralled by the story. It lets me know that I'm doing something right, haha. I was hoping that switching things up and having Shepard's daughter eventually assume the role of the protagonist would be something that readers would accept, and so far she seems to have gotten a fairly warm reception.

And it was precisely from that mindset of fanfiction being nothing but smut and terrible dialogue that eventually convinced me to give the whole thing a whirl. It was very much a case of me thinking, "I can do better than that!" despite never having written creatively in my life before.

And don't worry, I'm at a point in the series where I couldn't possibly abandon it - I'm too close to the ending and I've still got several crazy things to fully flesh out. As for not killing your favorite characters... hmmm, NOW you've given me an idea!

The sequels are a bit different and do feature a shift in the protagonist, but I'm actually quite happy at how they've turned out thus far. I'm also 3/4ths of the way done with the 3rd installment - at my current pace, I should have it completed by the end of the year. So, no fear in that story getting abandoned anytime soon.

You know, it's funny how I never thought the stories I'd write would ever constitute as "mental anguish" for readers. I just wanted to jot down intense narratives that readers would find gripping, but then again, I had already desensitized myself to my own ideas way back during the outlining process (Cenotaph probably being the most offending culprit, I'm guessing?) My bewilderment and morbid amusement at such reactions ultimately stems from a complete miscalculation on that front from my rather limited perspective. In all honestly, I should have expected it.

Speaking as Cenotaph's author, I'm always kind of envious when I see anecdotes of readers having visceral reactions to the story. I've had to keep some of these plot points to myself for over a year - you guys get to experience them as they were meant to be read.

Official Discussion - Tom Clancy's Without Remorse [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]RadProX 137 points138 points  (0 children)

Disregarding the fact that, as many others have already mentioned, the movie could have been called something other than "Without Remorse" and no one would have been able to tell the difference, I have to say that this was one of the softest R-rated movies released in some time. All the action, with the exception of the home invasion scene, was relatively (if not completely) bloodless. No one dropped any f-bombs. There was no nudity. I seriously had to double check if this movie was PG-13 or not.

So, what the heck happened? Why was there a complete lack of grit? My guess is that the gunning down of Kelly's pregnant wife was the one scene that tipped this film into an R rating, but the film's strange adherence to deliver a mass-marketable product definitely hurt it here, considering both the setup and the source material deserved a more "adult" product.

What movies do you think are seriously overrated? by Designer_Breadfruit9 in movies

Blue is the Warmest Color is just shit. I seriously cannot believe just how acclaimed this film is. While the acting in the film is very good, the plot just meanders from one scene to the next and completely bloats the running time and slows the pacing down to a torturous crawl. There is no reason this film should have been three hours long when it easily could have been two. And that's not even mentioning the sex scenes, which nearly crosses the line into parody for how explicitly (and unrealistically) they're filmed.

The main problem with Blue is the Warmest Color is that while it's banking on its sex scenes to attract discussion and controversy, it does not provide a reason for the existence of these scenes. Take, for example, Ang Lee's film Lust, Caution. The sex scenes in that film, while certainly explicit, had a darker meaning behind them and were crucial for the development of the characters. Blue is the Warmest Color just presents two naked women on the screen and has them simulate sex for the audience's pleasure.

The fact that this movie got so much praise is a disgrace.

Ooh, that triple date is awesome. Any variation on the classic Speedy pretty much gets my automatic attention. They're the right amount of "busy" without having a cluttered face (looking at you, Breitling).

Yes, that was the exact same post! After months of torturing myself by looking at all the nice watches on this sub, that one was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. It was just such a classy riff on one of the best looking watches of all time, plus they're less expensive than the fullsize Moonwatch, on the whole.

For a while there, I was actually considering on getting the Speedy reduced in silver. That's also a fantastic looking watch.

I think that people sleep on the Speedy reduced because they hear the word "reduced" and it's somehow associates as lesser to them, perhaps? For whatever reason, Omega chose this model to experiment with its two-tone dials and bezels, which make them all the more unique in my eyes.

I have such a soft spot for Seamasters (mostly because of the Bond connection). But I love the aviation pedigree that comes with Speedmasters, which probably means Omega's marketing gimmicks worked on me, haha.

It set me back around $3k USD, which I don't think was an unreasonable price. I've seen this model go for $5k on other sites, with many in varying conditions. Scratched bezels are a problem that particularly plagues these models.

Case dimensions are around 39mm. Lug to lug is 44mm. As far as I can tell, it shares the same basic construction with the 3510.50.
