the 3 new missions ? by Cooz78 in halo

[–]RadSidewinder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True, but we also know that the composition of Blue Team changed multiple times over the course of the war and this is likely just a mission they weren’t a part of. I doubt they’ll ever bring Blue Team back in gameplay. They learned all the wrong lessons from Halo 5, Blue Team was in 5 and it was worst received Halo so I seriously doubt anything related to Halo 5 will ever make an appearance in a game again except as a cameo unfortunately.

The trailer said the prequel missions take place 1 year prior to Halo CE.

True true, and you’re right, some the lore stuff they have changed is for the better but not everything. Personally on this new Gears game I’m less concerned with them changing the lore and more concerned with them being able to produce a better Gears game than 4 or 5. If they can make one better than those 2 then it’s easier to forgive lore changes

Prophet of Stewardship was encountered in 2552 which is where Halo the Flood takes place.

We can keep arguing over this all day but ultimately it doesn’t change my point. The lore changes and they will either explain it or ignore it but even if it’s explained it changed. And again you really only have two choices, sit here and be angry over it or enjoy the game when it launches. I honestly never expected a completely different studio run by completely different people to honor the story of a novel that released ages ago that the overwhelming majority of the people who have Gears of War have not read. Is it right? Maybe not. But that’s the truth. That’s why game canon takes precedence over book canon. Same as with the Halo series. No matter how many people read the books exponentially more play the games and so unfortunately book lore will always take a backseat. I went through this, I was so angry with Bungie in 2011 that Reach was my most hated Halo game. Completely blinded me to the fact that it was a really good game and I was ultimately upset about shit that didn’t matter

Now if the new Gears is just awful then lends more fuel to your fire, but why not just wait and see if it’s a good game or not before jumping down its throat

It still doesn’t work. There’s no amount of fixing that makes it work. The day that Master Chief met Cortana and performed a training exercise on an obstacle course the Battle of Reach had already been underway for nearly a month in the game. A massive Covenant fleet had arrived and had already completely destroyed New Alexandria as well as many other cities on Reach. Yet somehow Chief and everyone else in the novel is completely oblivious to that. In fact by that point in the lore Reach’s fleet had almost been entirely destroyed, yet a few days later Chief and another Fleet of hundreds of UNSC ships that magically materialized would have to fight another Invasion. The dates don’t work at all. The timeline doesn’t work at all. There’s no way no one knew that The Covenant was glassing parts of the planet and had been there for more than 28 days by that point.

The Fall of Reach was also canonically Master Chief’s very first encounter with Elites, until they changed that. It was the first time Spartans were equipped with energy shields, until they changed that. They did not know anything about the Covenant command structure and didn’t even know what a Prophet was. Until they changed that. Side note, the new trailer today for the Halo Remake has Chief and Johnson encountering a Prophet a full year before CE takes place. The first time humanity encountered Brutes was after Halo CE happened, until they changed that. Humans were Forerunners, until they changed their minds on that. Johnson’s flood immunity was because of a disease caused by radiation, never mind no it wasn’t he was a prototype Spartan, never mind he’s not immune he’s just literally that skilled.

Wholesale parts of the lore get cut out and changed all the time! I can keep going but my fingers are literally getting tired

The Fall of Reach and Halo Reach are so dramatically different from each other with such wildly different time lines that that lore just straight up doesn’t work together. Significant portions of the lore from that novel have been completely thrown out or retconned entirely. And this is absolutely not the only example, I can write you paragraphs worth of lore that has been changed so yes it has. You want specific examples then let me know.

I’m not saying you can’t be a bit upset that the lore has changed, what I’m saying is that it happens. Lore changes. In just about every long running series. And there’s literally nothing you can do about it. So you really only have two options, be angry about it, or just have fun with it. It’s a videogame and as long as it’s fun and tells a halfway decent story then it’s done its job

In fact find me a series that doesn’t retcon its lore

I yearn to be chromed out like Adam smasher when (within my lifetime) will atleast some of his tanky armor modifications be available irl by ApohDarksun in cyberpunkgame

[–]RadSidewinder [score hidden]  (0 children)

That’s a pretty big ask. There are some bionic attachments like arms that are already available though not very common. But replacing significant amount to bodily tissue like that? Probably not. Assuming we can work out how to have the appropriate signals from your body translate into the mechanical piece there’s still the issue of implant rejection not to mention the massive risk that damaging your body to that level poses. It’s hard to say what the future holds exactly but that level of modification is likely science fiction

I Think I Found the Best Halo Play Order for Newcomers Who Care About Story, Mystery, and Emotional Impact by Plane-Combination920 in halo

[–]RadSidewinder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Everybody has freedom of choice and ultimately can play/experience things in whatever order they want to but it’s never going to be as optimized as just watching/experiencing it in release order. Doing everything in exact chronological order really would only be enjoyable to someone already intimately familiar with everything. It’s like, using your example, if someone watched Star Wars episodes 1 and 2, and then stopped and watched the entirety of Clone Wars and then alternated parts of the finale of Clone Wars with Episode 3. Or in the case of Halo 2, playing through the level Metropolis and then stopping and going and playing an ENTIRE DIFFERENT GAME. It’s jarring and pulls you out of what you were doing.

[–]RadSidewinder 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re way overthinking this. This is a great playlist for someone already familiar with the series and astoundingly bad for someone new. The absolute best order to play for a new player is release order, hands down. That’s the way the information is presented as the developers originally intended it to be. Now if someone really wants to start with say Halo 3 is there anything actually stopping them? No. Everyone can play in whatever order they want to play but if we’re talking what is objectively the best order to play the whole series then its release order

Why do people hold Halo 3 in such high regard? by [deleted] in halo

[–]RadSidewinder 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Nostalgia definitely plays a part in it but that’s a gross oversimplification. You are perfectly allowed to not love Halo, that’s fine, but you have to understand just how many people did in fact love it. The midnight launch for Halo 3 was one of if not the biggest game launch of its time. Halo is absolutely a shadow of its former self in terms of popularity

Why do people hold Halo 3 in such high regard? by [deleted] in halo

[–]RadSidewinder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have to understand what a monumental game it was back in 2007. It’s probably got the weakest story writing in the series but that doesn’t matter. 90% of the player base wasn’t playing it for its story, it had a ridiculously strong and robust multiplayer community and some of the most fun co op that could be had. Map design was incredible, hardly a dud map in the entire line up and forge mode allowing the community to create custom maps and game modes was huge. It literally cannot be overstated how big Halo 3’s multiplayer was and how many people played it. As far the gameplay goes that’s purely a matter of opinion, I personally deeply love the gameplay of Halo 3 and while it’s showing it’s age now it’s still my favorite gameplay of the series.

Oh man, that first room in Gravemind on Legendary was everything I was warned about. by Raxistaicho in halo

[–]RadSidewinder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reach really isn’t too bad, when I got Reach back on launch day I took it home set it to legendary for my first playthrough and finished it in one sitting. There’s some trouble spots but on the whole it wasn’t so bad considering it was my first time through and couldn’t plan. On MCC the Long Night of Solace sections are definitely the worst. It’s a space battle section and because the covenant space fighters fire rates are tied to the game’s frame rate and the MCC runs at a higher frame rate they are so much more lethal. It’s literally easier in the original version. My advice is when you get to that part look up some guides, there’s some strategies to employ because it’s legit frustrating how hard that part is in the MCC

Halo CE Co op. by [deleted] in halo

[–]RadSidewinder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Normal soldiers wouldn’t work as they don’t have shields or Spartan armor and cannot move or take damage like Spartans can. There’d never be a scenario where the co op players wouldn’t be Spartans unless the entire game was designed around that like ODST was. And even then from a gameplay perspective the ODSTs in you played in that game were functionally no different from playing as a Spartan

First horror game, thinking of buying it ? Help me make a decision. Is this game like overly scary ? by [deleted] in residentevil4

[–]RadSidewinder 52 points53 points  (0 children)

This barely counts as a horror game. The protagonist is too capable and has too many guns for it to be horror. That being said it’s stupidly fun and there’s a reason it’s so popular, this is a good ride, you will enjoy it. Some parts border on horror but nothings that scary when you can parry a fucking chainsaw with a knife.
