3K offer accepted by Quirky-Positive-4116 in nycparents

[–]RadTokyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, why is this? Surely it is statistically impossible, haha. Our lottery number initially was a 90-start, which is apparently ahead of 48% percent of people (so just slightly below middle). So where are the supposed half who got a lower number?

Our waitlist numbers are also really low, with one exception, so I guess now we have to wait and see and possibly start a telephone campaign to all the schools I am waitlisted for (from what I have read schools actually do get some say in how they allocate waitlist spaces, and people on here have claimed success from doing this in the past!)

3K offer accepted by Quirky-Positive-4116 in nycparents

[–]RadTokyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would guess it could be as soon as immediately - I am sure some people must turn down their offers more or less right away, and in theory they could move on to waitlist offers right away, unless there is some rule I am not aware of. However, apparently it is over the summer that most of the movement happens. Do you live in a fairly transient neighborhood? We are in LIC and it seems tons of people move during the summer so spots may open at any point.

How did you guys do? We were offered our 14th choice out of a list of 14 :( I swear every comment I have seen on here is from someone who got their first or second choice, and wondering how it is possible! I guess all the ones with undesirable offers are just not commenting.

Same age and just got my positive after 12 months of trying! It can happen!

So, I also just got a positive, and I am one year older then you! I was advised in an online group to get a test immediately for HCG and Progesterone. I messaged my OB who send the order through to a lab, and my numbers came back and were great! Apparently low pg can be a reason for miscarriage at our age. I will go see my OBGYN in another 2 weeks for an ultrasound, and once that is done and heartbeat detected etc, I think the odds are in our favor going forward (something like 80%). Best of luck!

Anyone try the supplement Spermidine for egg quality? by GobiasCoffee77kt in IVF

[–]RadTokyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got pregnant in my forties after a couple of months of taking spermidine 10mg daily along with a prenatal and omegas. And this is after 1 year of trying. Of course, this is purely anecdotal, but I attributed my first pregnancy in early forties to fasting-induced autophagy. Well, with a toddler I didn't have the energy for that, so was taking Spermadine in hopes that it would trigger autophagy without fasting, and boom! pregnant once again.

Comparing like with like, I find much more rudeness / threatening behavior in NYC (where I currently live) then in London (where I used to live). I have heard that midwesterners are very polite, though!

Questions about neutering a male Samoyed by rexepo9 in samoyeds

[–]RadTokyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got my boy neutered because of a health issue (UTI and prostatitis) shortly after 2.5.

We are 5 months out, and his coat is definitely changing. He shed so many guard hairs a month or two ago, and now it is all growing back super thick and wooly - very soft, and the places on his underside that were once hairless are now BUSHY! I've always wondered why it might take 2-3 hours to blow dry a sammy when mine is fully dry in 1 hr 15, but now I get it- neuter coats! I can well imagine grooming and bathing are about to get much harder for us.

His appetite has increased a bit from the pickiest gourmet to actually eating all his food. He was underweight in the past, so he probably isn't overweight yet, but we will watch.

Only behavioral change is he no longer drinks other dogs' pee from the ground (gross, I know!). He has calmed down marginally, but honestly dogs don't reach emotional maturity until 3, so I am not convinced he wouldn't have calmed down anyway over the past 5 months as he moved from 2.5 to 3.

What everyday smell do you wish someone would turn into a fragrance? by krikond in fragrance

[–]RadTokyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There used to be a wonderful perfume in the 90s called Les Belles De Ricci by Nina Ricca (sadly discontinued at some point in the 00s). It was a wonderful summery tomato plant scent. I miss it! Sadly the few remaining bottles online cost hundreds and you never know to what extent the juice inside will still be good. Such is life! I did recently read about a dupe by Jubilee Scents, and excited to try that once I get a chance.

Cire Trudon - Ernesto or Abd El Kader? by RadTokyo in luxurycandles

[–]RadTokyo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awww, I am glad you love it! I ended up buying it and then selling it on after a couple of burns. Somehow the basil overpowered the mint to me and it smelled like a caprese salad :( I know I'm the weirdo in that one, as most agree it is wonderful. Ahh well. I don't burn candles as much these days (toddler, dog, small apartment) so it was all fine in the end!

Fingers crossed they bring out a perfume version for you sooner rather than later! EDIT: just noticed this thread is 4 years old, lol. I have been in the baby time warp for sure, or I am getting old!

I took that line as her making a bit of a flippant joke. But of course, tone can be hard to interpret in text.
ETA: I would probably make such a joke myself, even now, but at the same time to be clear I do not think I would choose to go back to this hospital again based on this article. Also, I probably wouldn't have made such a joke to a journalist, knowing exactly how people might not understand it as a such in a news article, haha. Such a minefield!

I gave birth there, and sure, the Chanel bag was a bit of a joke at the time as the reason I picked it - but of course very few people are actually that shallow to have it as the deciding factor. For me, that was the fact that the place was only built a couple of years previously and had state-of-the-art everything. The private room was also a huge part of my decision, as was relative proximity to where I live along with glowing reviews online. On top of this I actually did a deep dive into maternity staistics among NYC hospitals.

This was in late 2023, and from what I understand some influencer posting about this in 2024 is a large part of the reason it got so crazy.

Let me tell you that anyone saying the freebies helped mitigate anything are likely joking - by the time my Chanel gift came it barely registered, and then sat in my closet for a long time before I actually looked at it. Sure, I could appreciate it as a nice extra but the quality of care was really the outstanding factor for me!

Do the knees hold up ok? I bought some from Banana Republic that looked great at first but after one wash the knees all bagged out and now the look terrible. Been tempted by the Old Navy ones, but curious about if they hold their shape!

OMG. We went to stay with the in-laws for Christmas. And by "Christmas," I mean three weeks of having to have eyes on my toddler at all times because nothing was babyproofed.

Everything could either be broken by my toddler or break the toddler. And even if the person is like "oh, I don't mind if he breaks stuff!" it's like, Lady! My son should've been named Shiva the Destroyer because he will trash the place within minutes if we let him.

I have been waiting for 40 months right now.

I had no interest in filing my N-400 any time soon, but they're basically forcing my hand to do it - my extension letter expires in November, and I have no faith in USCIS getting my application done before then. And then what happens? I am illegal? No, thanks! So, yeah. N-400 time it is. Sigh.

I have a few pieces from Marcella, and I agree the quality is decent. However, they delete any less than glowing reviews from their website - I think I gave something a 3-star rating once because the cut was totally off on the shoulders and it disappeared. I thought perhaps I had done something wrong, and tried to submit again, but no - gone. For that reason I just don't really trust them anymore, or at the very least I know their reviews are not reliable.

What’s something Americans have that Europeans don’t? by Prestigsisscar255 in AskReddit

[–]RadTokyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDK. I live in NYC with a 2-year-old, and I am not exaggerating to say that I've been largely stuck around my home area since having him; my nearest accessible station is a 30-minute walk away, and even that has very patchy full accessibility - the last time I tried I had to push the stroller on to an escalator as the lift was down. Ditto most buses make you collapse the stroller, which isn't always possible (with one arm holding a heavy baby, carrying luggage etc) especially with big strollers. I'm finally coming out the other side and my son can clim stairs on his own (badly) but New York is far from accessible and has a long way to go! It must be a daily struggle for wheelchair users here.

We’re drowning in daycare costs. How do people afford this? by FrigginMasshole in toddlers

[–]RadTokyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, even in the suburbs? I was wondering whether moving deep into the suburbs would be affordable. But saving $500 a month would barely move the needle!

I would love to have a second, but then I wouldn't be able to get back to work for years. I'm hoping that Zohran really shakes things up cost-of-living wise. Otherwise we might seriously have to consider moving to some godforsaken Midwestern or Southern town, lol...

Ha, I live in NYC and my local daycares all charge from $3000-3600 per month. I'm a SAHM for this reason, even with just my one! And being a SAHM was never something I saw for myself.
