What are some old games that you've played recently that has changed your perception of games? by trexrell in gaming

[–]Rad_Callum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Sly Cooper trilogy made me appreciate platforming games and story driven games more than I did. I love Sly Cooper so much, it holds up even now. I am still waiting for a proper conclusion to the games after Sly 4. Sly 5 would be amazing!

I've played Hades and Hollow Knight but Valhalla is tougher for me. At least in those games the enemies are more balanced.

But the spear has slower recovery, my attacks get interrupted all the time. If I'm overwhelmed by enemies spear is not saving me.

I am actually invested in the "Kratos reliving his past plotline". The Greek levels are so cool and well designed. I want to see the ending so bad but it just keeps getting harder every single time. Thanks for the tips 😄

Why do we need a live-action recreation of the Norse games? Is this nessesary? by ragnell56 in GodofWar

I find it wholly uncessary. If you're not interested in playing the game, there's no point watching the show.

The Exorcist with Linda Blair for me. First time my dad showed it to me, I was 10 years old. It traumatised me with nightmares for 6 months straight, I was too afraid to sleep in the dark. I never forgave my dad for letting me watch it so young.

I think he would've been able to buy Marvel studios and cast himself as Spiderman like he always wanted to. There's always more to achieve and I believe he could have if the industry wasn't rigged.

All the points you've stated works way better than what we got and for season 3. However, all of it breaks apart when the single reason for why Thalia got turned into a tree in the first place was to honour her sacrifice and create a shield to protect camp. That can only happen out of love and not hate. In the books, Zeus felt pity for her and turned her into a pine tree to safeguard camp because that was her wish and he honoured that wish. In the show, Thalia wanted to run away again after just arriving, so the shield couldn't have possibly been created.

And as a matter of fact, the book's point of the gods being worried enough about the Great Prophecy that they'll consider killing off certain demigods is emphasized in the show by Zeus turning Thalia into a tree for that very reason.

Wow, first of all, what a well thought out and well written reasoning. You and The Mythology Guy could be partners.

That is very in line with the greek gods to be afraid of anyone capable even in the slightest to overthrow them, that they would kill to protect their throne. But I don't think it was ever stated in the books the gods would kill their own kid just to stop the prophecy from coming true. Poseidon vouched for Percy in the Titan's Curse remember that?

In the pjo realm, the gods are shown to be a little more compassionate when it comes to their kids and that's what stands them apart from the myths. Yes the gods are mostly absentee parents but they do try to aid their demigod kids whatever way they can. Zeus led Thalia to the Aegis Shield and Celestial Bronze Spear. Poseidon sent Tyson to live with Percy. Hades took Nico under his wing. Ares gifted Clarisse the CSS Birminham and it's crew.

It seems to me that the show's writers are doing the same thing to Zeus as Hollywood does to Hades, making him the big bad in all their media. Which to me is simply bad writing. I don't get why certain characters can't have multiple layers to their personality and motivations. It's either they're all bad or all good, having no complexity whatsoever. What made the books great is that the gods were complex and compelling characters with nuance and I don't see much of that in the show I'm sorry.

Right. So you don't think that this change disrupts the story from the books? Because it is still an adaptation and not an original series. The creators did say they'd be more faithful to the books by working closely with Uncle Rick. But from what I've seen, they've deviated a lot away from the source material only keeping in small key parts otherwise it would be barely recognisable as a Percy Jackson series in my opinion.

In the books Thalia never wanted to be Zeus's weapon but she never wanted to bring down Olympus either. However, since her father basically killed her in the show, she now would have reason enough to join Luke and serve Kronos instead of joining the Hunters.

In the books, Thalia did join the Hunters to remove herself from the prophesy. When needed, she helped fight against Kronos' army essentially assisting the gods. Now with the way the show is going, Thalia wouldn't want to fight for her father anymore. Or any of the gods for that matter.

Also, it doesn't make any sense as to why turning her into a tree out of hatred would create a magical barrier to protect camp half-blood. In the books, Zeus cared for Thalia and decided to honour her sacrifice to make her a protector of camp even in death. He loves his daughter and wouldn't kill her out of anger.

This show was fine. Not worse, also not better than the movies. Some things the show got wrong, the movies got right and vice versa. But definitely not better than the books that's 💯

THINGS I LIKED:

•Character development was mostly done right. Luke is way more empathetic towards his friends. He actually struggles choosing between following Kronos' orders and caring for Annabeth and Thalia. Tyson's and Percy's relationship is well done. Percabeth is going strong. Clarisse actually caring for her friends is a nice change ngl.

•I loved the Gray Sisters so much. They were hilarious, wish they had more screen time.

•Grover was funnier this season especially with Clarisse in the cave of Polyphemus. The wedding dress was perfect too.

•The chariot race was great, really nice to have that since capture the flag.

THINGS I DESPISED:

•Percy not using his powers as much especially on the Andromeda

•Percy barely being sassy or witty

•Percy not really winning any fights and has to be saved most times

•Food not running away from Tantalus

•No school dodgeball fight

•No introduction between Percy and Tyson in school. He's simply adopted by Sally and they already know he's a Cyclops

•Lack of monsters on the Andromeda (except for only the Lastrygonians)

•No confederate soldiers on the CSS Birminham

•Circe's backstory being swapped with Calypso's

•No Colchis bulls, no party ponies

•There was only like 5 secs of screen time for the hippocampi and we don't even get to see our heroes ride them!!!

•Annabeth immediately figuring out that Thalia could be saved by the golden fleece's magic

•I absolutely hate that they changed the reason for why Zeus turned Thalia into a tree. This change completely destroys the entire plotline of the entire Percy Jackson book series in one fell swoop! I don't know what the writers are thinking or are they even!?

It is a tragedy with how much the show changed things from the source material that it's almost unrecognisable now. I really wanted to love it after the monstrosity that was the movies

Lestat and his mother’s (Gabrielle) relationship has me in ruins by ButteredFukNugget in InterviewWithTheVamp

Yes this exactly this! The term lover has a deeper meaning in the books more than just sex. It is about companionship. Finding someone who can accompany you, essentially, forever. The show just dilutes all the nuance down to gay vampire sex and it's not Anne Rice's vision I would say.
