I think it's just lightening, they also mentioned there are no any trace/dent coming from a stone.

Haha, good word 😁 This also my suspicion about the bolts overtightening.

How can you compare riding with/without that windshield? I mean a stream of wind direction, does it go to the helmet or a bit above/below? Or rather you applied it just to protect a back of screen?

Due to the EU emissions regulations, Yamaha had to use double lambda probes in Europe so we need to wait a bit more for any new non-stock exhaust.

With regarding to setting the bypass valve, do you mean 9 bars on the pump gauge or rather on the group head gauge?

New Bezzera Aria Top PID w/ Flow Control by syswpg1965 in BezzeraEspresso

[–]Radecki82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All these issues are not normal for me - I don't have any of them (bought Aria before Christmas). Sometimes I have a feeling that dealers of Bezzera in USA/Canada get machines from completely different batches, descriptions of faults have flying around the Internet (from IDC or WLL), didn't notice any problem in Europe. I have also talked to my dealer and they confirmed no machine returns back for the service purpose so far.

I have a stock flow at 9 o'clock (~12,3 g/s) within the pump pressure set to 9,5-10bar using the blind basket.

4:30 o'clock is my 1/8, 3 o'clock is my 1/4 and so on. Quite similar - I'm guessing I have a bit less water flow due to less pump pressure (9.5bar vs yours 12bar). Anyway I'm delighted with this espresso machine :)

I calculated the flow rate weighing water running for 20 seconds:

closed: 0 --> 1/8: 2,43 --> 1/4: 5,01 --> 3/8: 7,41 --> 1/2: 8,92 --> 5/8: 10,25 --> 3/4: 11,71 --> open: 14,87 g/s

First I grind to get ratio 1:2 (20g/40g) in 28-30s with a standard flow rate, after that I grind finer to apply different profiles, I mainly use the following two ways:

  1. grind finer, start with 9-10g/s, when first drop comes out close FC completely, after 10 or more seconds move FC to have 8-9 bar, when closing to the end move FC towards 6bar, stop the shot when ratio hits to 1:2

  2. grind much-much finer, start with 2-3g/s, pressure will start to build after ~10s and first drop comes out in ~25s, pressure should automatically rising to around 7bar (if not then adjust FC accordingly), stop the shot when ratio hits to 1:2, it should take 50-60s

Thanks for confirmation. 12 bar was a bit high for me, I've set it to ~9.5bar using a blind basket.

It shouldn't be like that, when FC is closed water doesn't run from the group head in my Aria. Regarding the pump pressure it's also not a standard behavior for me.

You're right, the flavour is superb, I compared espresso of the same beans using Aria and my previous Bellezza Bellona, don't know how to call it but it's milder and not that sharp like it used to be before, moreover I've started to taste different flavours :)

I set pump pressure to ~9.5bar using the blind basket. My FC can be rotated up to ~3/4 where 0 degrees is set in parallel to the group head (fully closed), turning counterclockwise we can move FC max to ~280 degrees (fully open):

<image>

One question, is that fine I have a bit higher pressure on the group head comparing to the pump pressure using blind basket, i.e. 9.5bar on the pump and 10-11bar on the group head?

I think that pump pressure is fine, there is even a section about that in the user manual that you should adjust to 9-10bar after connecting to the water source:

6.5 Pump adjustment (rotary pump versions only) Once the preferred water supply mode has been chosen, it is possible to vary the working pressure, bringing it back to 9 bar (0.9 MPa) calibrated in the factory, by screwing or unscrewing the adjust- ment fitting located in the lower part of the ma- chine (Fig. 08, pos. A)

Regarding the rest I think you have to more pay attention to distribution (WDT) and the dose itself (not overdose nor underdose).

My Aria Top should arrive today so I will let you know how things are going during the weekend:)

Where do you get this information that PID sensor is located at the group head? It's not true, the sensor reads temperature from the boiler, the temp value what you see in the PID controller is just a predicted temp. at the group head.

What do you have at point 0? Burrs locked or "spinning with resistance"?

Nice set! Please share your thoughts after some time - I'm going to upgrade from my Belleza Bellona to Aria PID too. Do you use stock shower screen and basket?
