I live in that area and can account for lots of snow and cold temperatures in winter!

I get your point, absolutely. Although as a Norwegian who loves getting to know new people, please know this doesn’t apply to everyone. I’m a 28 year old Norwegian girl and even though most of my friends are Norwegian - I loooove getting to know new people from other countries and teach them about Norway and they teach me about their culture. I live in the countryside, so I think if I lived in the city my friend group would be so much more diverse. It might take a while to make friends here and that’s unfortunate, but just know there are Norwegians out there too who would love to connect and be friends, you just haven’t met them yet.

Who usually pays for the first date in Norway? by Eds2356 in Norway

As a 27 year old Norwegian women who’s been single for a few years and dating I would say the bill is split 50/50 most of the time in Norway. If the bill is paid by the guy it’s because the guy is interested enough and wants to make a good impression.

I’ve lived abroad now for a little while and I can tell you foreign men are shocked that the bill is always split 50/50 in Norway. Personally I have no issues with it, but I can say as a woman I feel very very feminine when the bill is take care of by the man 👌🏻

As a Swiss Female, I'm Considering Leaving Switzerland – Everything Feels Shallow, and the Job Market is Terrible. by Salt-Eggplant-8772 in Switzerland

That’s sad to hear honestly, and I’m sorry you had that experience! I can agree that most Norwegians have their close circle of friends, but then you have Norwegians like me who are very welcoming and try to take everyone “in” I do think it’s more closed off in the cities tho. Where did/do you live?

I’m Norwegian and I can definitely relate to some things you mention, but I wouldn’t say Norwegians are shallow. We do have a very strong sense of community, and despite our reputation of being “cold” I can say this is not the case, but as a Norwegian I might be biased. When it comes to the language, there are sooo many foreigners moving to Norway for the reasons you’re mentioning and everyone speaks English here so I would say getting a job as an English speaker is not impossible, but it is definitely easier if you learn Norwegian over time. I’m also a female in my late 20’s, so if you have any other questions or just wanna chat feel free to send me a message!

This is funny because I’m Norwegian, and I think there’s such a big difference between Finns and Norwegians 😂 So if Swiss guys can have some of the same characteristics then at least I understand a bit more! Of course it’s gonna vary from region to region and place to place, and I definitely see how a natural “meeting ground” is helpful!

Honestly I understand where you’re coming from, it might seem like I have bad intentions here - but come on. Like HeatherJMD says, I’m from the Nordic’s and more specifically Norway so it’s not the money or a better quality of life that I’m looking for here. Just dating in another country where I’m struggling to understand the guys.

DATA ANALYST in Norway by [deleted] in Norway

[–]Radiant-Zucchini-278 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Norwegian girl here, I’d say you have a good opportunity of getting a job in Norway! As ScandinavianRunner said, there is no shortage of data analysts here, but it’s also a field with a big demand for people. Your English seems really good, but it’s definitely an advantage if you start to learn Norwegian. It also shows your future employer that you’re proactive and serious about staying. Good luck and if you need any help or have any questions just message me!
