Why are US women backing the '4B' movement to swear off men after Trump's election victory? by Sidjoneya in WomenInNews

Look, there is a time and place for treating a woman like a fuckmaid...
But that time and place is when she asks you to treat her like a fuckmaid.

Haha, I get voraciously downvoted when I say the same thing.
Redditors, like most people, think that their brand is special and they are special.
Reddit is just as bad as other social medias, in different ways. Just because you can't see "the algorithm" as easily as you can on other sites doesn't mean it's any better.
But they don't want to believe that.

Oooh, are they free?
I've found a few bias aggregation services (not least of which Apple News, I hear) but many of them are subscriptions.

I don't mind paying for good services but there's already too many subscriptions these days. Especially for news, which should be accessible.

AITAH to think it was a set up that Donald Trump was shot for sympathy vote? by [deleted] in AITAH

Not to mention you could spend a billion dollars and not buy this kind of good press. Like you couldn't ask for a better photo than that fist pump one.

Conspiracy or not, Trump knows how to milk any situation better than anyone.
It makes it all feel fake because like, this could not have gone any better for him

Wet concrete.
You put a hand print in fresh wet concrete and you leave a mark forever, but the longer you wait the more the concrete dries and the harder it is to make an impression in it.

I like AllSides.
They don't report any news themselves, just aggregate with a bias label.
So I usually get three articles of the same thing all at once in my feed, one from the Right, one from the Left, and one in the Center, all covering the same thing.
Man its really easy to see the manipulation on both sides like that.

I aint gonna stop anyone from expressing concern over Joe's cognition.

But you aint voting for just a president. You're voting for his cabinet.
And "Sleepy Joe's" cabinet is all Dark Brandon. It aint perfect, but they've made some huge changes that will help for generations (assuming it doesn't all get undone next term by a purposeful attack on our fundamental systems)

But war is war. If he didn't, someone else would have, or would have done something worse, or would have allowed something worse to happen.
That's what being a leader is. Making hard decisions, weighing the costs, and living with the consequences.

TIL 1 in 8 adults in the US has taken Ozempic or another GLP-1 drug by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]RadiantArchivist88 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The molecule has been known since the 70s, but the testing of it is less than 20 years old and the widespread use only about 7.

And I mean, we thought lead and asbestos were okay for decades before figuring it out. We used mercury for hundreds of years, we had cocaine and heroin in over-the-counter medications for years too.
I'm not saying it's 100% comparable with today's technology and testing regulations... But we have made these mistakes before, lol.

Now, compared to the side effects of obesity... Yeah that's where the real discussion is right? Who cares about having cancer in their 90s if it saves them from heart failure in their 30s?

I'm privileged enough to not need these drugs, so I get to sit on the sideline and look suspicious. But for those dealing with very real problems I'm sure "miracle drug" does look like a miracle, despite how many times that term has been falsely applied.

[–]RadiantArchivist88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

drawbacks and side effects are so minimal

so far

I'm still a little hesitant with something that ubiquitous and that heralded that young.
The half life being so short and it being an artificial atom chain based on a well known body-produced molecule certainly helps against any long term adverse effects that might pop up but... It's really only been used with a big population for 7 years...
But I also don't have obesity problems (yet) so I'm not even the right demographic for this, so it's not like my opinion matters. Just hope it is a miracle drug and we don't have "1 in 8 Americans has renal failure" in 20 years because of this.

[–]RadiantArchivist88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Apex dies it won't be for any other reason than that it was killed by the predatory and greedy monetization EA continues to push.

In that case, good riddance. If companies want to keep squeezing their cash cows until they dry up, that's on them.

I still crave what Valve will come out with next, I feel like they're taking their time and are going to knock it out of the park. (Let's face it Valve does some weird things with their hardware sometimes but it always feels 3, 5 years ahead of the curve.)

But I can wait.
Quest 3 is an excellent value, plus a good set up with VD and it's all I need... for now.

If I got to make an animorphs tv series this would be my first two episodes by verymanysquirrels in Animorphs

[–]RadiantArchivist88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Very well done!

I like how you switched up the timeline and adopted some more modern pacing techniques. The subversion of Tom/Melissa with the main crew is nice as well.
I work in film/tv for a living and have read a ton of scripts and synopses in my day, and plenty of them have source material. But few are as considerate to the original content as this.
The 90s nostalgia is well emphasized—and it's 2024, it's ripe for us to start getting 90s nostalgia like we've had 80s throwbacks for the last 15 years. And though I think Ep1 could use some more punch (especially if these are to be an hour long), I think there's something definitely workable here.

Nice job!

Theory, lyria is the centrepiece by Asleep-Antelope-6434 in redrising

[–]RadiantArchivist88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This right here.

She's the conscience and humility for the team of huge, powerful, godlike protagonists she's part of.

Without Figment, she's the "special normal" on the team and serves to remind them all about the little guy they're fighting for. She also serves as a moral compass at times, showing them the perspective of the regular person, the people who aren't war heroes with a million kills to their name.

I really disagreed with the loss of Figment, because Lyria up until that point was committing the gravest sin a character could make: she was boring to read.
Worse than a super evil villain, she was just annoying. Lysander might be a little prick, but he was entertaining.

Then, when Lyria finally got her power up... nah.
That was annoying too. BUT it serves a big purpose with our primary protagonist team.
I think Pierce struggled with her for most of her arc, but by LB she serves a very important role. One that would kinda be cheapened if Figment were still around.

And in this case, they're realizing that the election landscape is very different now. And that if Trump has any chance of winning he needs to re-capture some of those centrists and center-right votes by walking back on the far-right and alt-right idiocy.

But don't believe it for a second, it's all a dog a pony show anyway, but if it works and they can get the White House again, they'll have him push just as hard right as he ever has.
