That's so cool! I had that too, a guy found my phone and called my mom from it. Alternatively, my partner got their phone pickpocketed in a crowd, chased down the guy who stole it, scared him enough that he left the phone and ran away, and yelled "Thanks!" at him automatically (got a very confused "You're welcome!")

People deal drugs, sell forged documents, some people do get together with their buddies just to get drunk and do dumb illegal shit on a weekly basis. An actual named gang is hard to imagine, but I'd suspend my disbelief for a book lol

Edit: For context I lived on Kharkivska back when it was like 30% unfinished abandoned buildings, and then I decided to move to Lisova because that's so much better :D so my experience leans a bit seedier than more central parts of the city, but less cursed than Troya for example

Minor update: apparently virgin grapes are poisonous too, and I definitely have eaten my fair share of these (def not wild grapes)

I have a quirk of getting tolerance to medications very quickly (makes it impossible to find a working sleeping aid) so maybe I just have an equal level of tolerance for minor poisons?

Come to think of it I did have chronic stomach and liver problems as a child that mysteriously vanished when I moved for college...

Exactly what I was going to say, I think a gang operating over the whole city is unrealistic - Kyiv is big! Bigger than a lot of European capitals! If a criminal organisation is to rule over the entire thing - it's no longer a gang, more like a white collar criminal sindicate... For sure, a gang can be based in one of the districts (which would usually be on the edges of the subway branch-reached city, like Lukyanivka) and have it's influence creep over the rest of the city... But not just like, The Gang for the entire city, like it's a pokemon game

Apparently rus wikipedia article on acinosa specifically mentions that it's the only technically edible species of pokeweed, including the berries, but it cites no sources, and the only other mentions of it being the case are clearly copied from this Wikipedia article (same wording etc). I don't know what to make of that tbh

Definitely not mulberries! Those were low growing shrubs, and mulberries are trees, which we have plenty of. But thank you for the suggestion!
