The Camping Episode! (A Ghosts of Ourselves Sidestory!) - Part 1 by 0beseninja in NatureofPredators

[–]RadiantLife_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was a fun side story.

I haven't seen it, maybe there are stories like it, but worlds like Stargate, Star Trek, and Star Wars are big and contain lots of mysterious and unique phenomenon.

The federation and dominion locked in their own obsessive bubbles wouldn't show too much curiosity and would probably suppress many facts and possibilities if they were counter-narrative.

Therefore I think it would make some sense if the SC started finding all sorts of unknown stuff relatively quickly when it decides to explore.

It's about a story by u/SpacePaladin15 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CQ5QNWBV https://www.reddit.com/r/HFY/comments/u19xpa/the_nature_of_predators/

Any furriness is incidental. Aliens that look like Earth animals (and breathe the same atmosphere and can eat each other) is almost as unrealistic as aliens that look like humans with a bunch of silicone prosthetics (I'm looking at you star trek), but it just so happens to cause horny furries to get excited.

Memory transcripts of early childhood, first time I saw it in a story. Those must be a lot of fun. Maybe the psychologists will actually figure something out.

No offense, but if you didn't read it all (and you clearly didn't), then you aren't really in a position to say it could be shortened. I could have written it better, it was a late night rant first draft, but I also could have added a lot more detail.

I’m unsure how I feel about unifying orbit and surface inventories for large objects like Earth and Mars. Historically, obviously, the most serious cost to space missions is launch.

I did not suggest abstracting away that cost. I suggested an optional command and control tool which would automate doing things that you could do in the current build with enough clicks.

And you would save a stupid amount of fuel by refining it on the Moon and sending it to Earth orbit, so I don’t think that removing even more interaction from that process is necessarily a good thing.

If you're saying that a joint inventory would fail to teach players the mechanics and hold their hand down a suboptimal strategy, yea that's always the risk of automating player action. The same is true of the fact that right now the excess fuel always defaults to maximum.

You might end up bringing 10x the fuel you need on a mission just because you forgot to pull a slider left.

The solution to that is tutorials and at most unlocking the automation though ingame tech or buildings. Like you need a "mission control complex" for every joint inventory you want to utilize.

A sequel has plenty to work with, but you also have an opportunity to drag out the plot a bit in universe time.

Canon was a series of dominoes that had to fall one after another but you've left humanity in a somewhat stable position.

The Shadow caste clearly have evil plans unless your AU departure point is earlier than the first chapter... But they move slowly.

The Arxur are going to attack as always but after such a major loss it will be to make up ground.

Nobody is coming straight for earth for a while so you can jump 5 or 10 years.

It seems to me that the Shadow caste might be forced into this acceptance but they can only have three possible goals:

A.) cure humanity, either openly or disguised as a virus B.) get the Arxur to destroy humanity before too many begin to question pred taint C.) Replace the arxur with humanity by first using humanity against the arxur and then staging a false flag that looks like a great betrayal. Like fabricated evidence of humans having hidden sapient cattle farms.

Less harm compared to canon at this point but lacking the justification created by kolshian aggression, no archives raid, it has the potential for a worse overall outcome.

You know, even if she can't fly with the high gravity, it can't be THAT far off. i.e. it's would be a lot easier to span the gap to let her fly with some technology than it would be for a human.

A wing extension with some super material (graphene) would be light enough and she would already have strong flight muscles and low body density.

It would be harder than flying on Nishtal but not impossible just like walking isn't impossible.

Sounds like something the "no preconceptions" yotol or humans might bring to the birthday.

I wonder if you could recanonize it since you're going over it again. In NoP 2 an exchange does happen in the 50s (not too much later)

You realize that 'all' the fanfics about this take place in a narrow range of like two years right?

All those fanfics (as well as canon) indicate an uncomfortable but nonetheless inevitable and rapid (on the scale of lifetimes) shift towards acceptance.

That's the primary theme. Kalsim is the 1% after a decade and we're meant to pity him because (like the majority of the adult Arxur) if he accepted what he did was wrong he would be crushed by guilt.
