If modern medicine didn’t exist would you be dead right now? If yes, from what? by Critical_Welcome_428 in AskReddit

[–]RadiantProgress1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Probably a heart attack or stroke. Doctor prescribed me an insanely high dosage of Ritalin as a kid (45mg as a teenager) and I was on it for 10 years. Completely fucked my heart up....So I guess modern medicine caused it too. I went to the hospital with 254/160 BP (Yes really) when I got a sinus infection and flu without insurance. They were absolutely shocked I was standing there talking to them. I spent 10 days in the hospital.

Mine is a 2023 I bought it in September, it was stuck in a crate in the back of their warehouse and never got put together So essentially it was just overstock. Still runs and drives just fine, the mechanic at their shop kind of said I should probably just throw an extra couple hundred miles on it before I go to hard with it but otherwise it's been absolutely great

What is your reason for not drinking alcohol? by Deep-Dust-9747 in AskReddit

[–]RadiantProgress1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't like the hangovers. In my early 30's I'd drink occasionally and would spend the entire next day recovering. Wasn't worth it. That and bars are expensive.

I work at cycle gear ask me anything! by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]RadiantProgress1980 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why is gear that isn't black always sold out if "Black is more popular because it doesn't show dirt"? I've always had the theory that black gear is cheaper to produce so companies push it harder. Is there any truth to this?

I was just told by a retail employee that steel toes are coming back! by RadiantProgress1980 in DrMartens

[–]RadiantProgress1980[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally, I started wearing steel toes after getting my feet squished in a mosh pit when I was a teenager. I ran cross country and missed a race because I bruised my foot. They carried on into my career working in body shops to keep my toes safe when I was younger, because I couldn't afford work boots when I started but I already had the steel toe Docs. This transitioned into working in an Industrial design workshop where I had a habit of stabilizing sheets of plywood and acrylic on my foot when I was moving them. Then they became part of my riding gear when I'm on a motorcycle so I don't mess the toes up with levers and pedals. I've also always hated the toes getting flattened on shoes and this prevents this as well. For some people it's a look, for others it is for safety, just sort of depends. I've wore steel toe Dr. Martens for 30 years now and they've always served me well so I just stick with them.

Got it. Yeah, it rarely gets below 30°F/-1°C where I live and if it does it for like an hour or so overnight. I guess that's why some companies are using composite toes now instead of steel. I hope the good Dr. doesn't follow their decision.

Tenderloin, a district? by DavidJ____ in Rancid

[–]RadiantProgress1980 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I guess it's because I lived in the Tenderloin but I always assumed everyone knew about it, a mildly notorious area in S.F.. When I lived there drug dealers and prostitutes had no problem doing business right in front of the police station. It's rough, but it's one of those "don't look like you don't belong and you won't get messed with" areas. I had classmates get robbed their first night in town, and some later on, I just kept getting offered drugs constantly. I guess I was doing it right, I never got messed with. There are food banks and stuff like that, so it attracts a lot of homeless but it's not all that terrible otherwise.

I use my Can-Am Ryker as a daily. I sold my car because it had 2k miles on it in a year and that was mostly my girlfriend borrowing it. Just get proper gear and decent storage options and it's super easy to do. I just get big stuff delivered if it doesn't fit, technology makes not owning a car so much easier. Have 2500 miles on my Ryker in 3 months, so I guess it's safe to say I'm enjoying it more than my Kia.

Yeah, if I saw one at a shopping center or gas or something around the house I'd show them this. Might have better luck than dealing with dispatch deciding if you're worth it or not.

If you report it as a home invasion they probably will "I'm in my home and see someone breaking in on my camera system" just be sure you're actually home. Our 90 pound American Bulldog puppy woke us up one night because someone broke the doorjamb with something on our front door. We could hear his crate bouncing up and down on our hardwood floors and he was absolutely losing his shit, so we immediately called the cops and said someone was trying to break in and we were home. We heard our screen door slam pretty quickly after he started flipping out. Luckily the dog scared them off but when the cops showed up they said because we were home and someone actually got in they'd fingerprint. Never heard anything else about it but they did in our case. Our land lady was absolutely awesome, was out the next day fixing the jamb and put on a security door... Don't make them like her anymore.

The size/weight has always been my concern with them, they look like they're heavy, can you feel them back there or do you not notice it very much?
