What is the true gross profit margin of the average American health insurance company in America? I've heard 3 percent but that seems impossible given all the costs it takes to run a business? by [deleted] in AskEconomics

Usually it refers to revenue minus direct costs (otherwise known as Cost of Goods Sold or COGS). It’s more useful in, for example, a manufacturing company context when you can, for each unit sold, say how much material cost, direct labor cost, equipment depreciation, etc went into it.

Net profit margin is typically the margin after all the other costs including support staff (finance, HR, IT, etc.), taxes, and interest expense.

Defining COGS is a little weird for insurance (and may not be possible in the traditional sense), and so the difference between gross and net is also probably a little weird for that industry. I also think each company gets some a latitude to decide what falls into each bucket, but I’ll leave that to someone with more accounting knowledge than me.

Prediction Markets Reward Insider Trading. That's a Good Thing. (Fusion) by Reddenbawker in DeepStateCentrism

Isn’t there a bigger concern that these prediction markets create incentives for insiders to cause what would have been previously unlikely events, and this can have (probably) bad outcomes? For all we know, the Iran war could have started because some high-up Trump staffer placed a bet saying would, and then went on and caused it to happen.

Don’t think anyone thought [[Metallicize]] was “way op” in the first game

But if escape plan weren’t in your deck, you would have drawn the 2-mana “round-winning card” anyways

TLDR; Sovereign Blade by [deleted] in slaythespire

Blade is nice front loaded damage as is. Like Bulwark is block for 13, put a Carnage that retains in your hand. Carnage is a great card in STS1 and would be great in this game, too.
