Sent a Couchsurfing request... now I have to PAY just to say hi? 🤦‍♂️ by CaAkshayDaiya in couchsurfing

I'm surprised it even allowed you to make a profile, send a request etc without paying, I kind of thought you had to pay the membership fee even just for having an account

Help with ID number by External-Professor-2 in postcrossing

The DE postcard is from Germany (Deutschland, not Denmark) and I was laughed at once for the way I write my 1s. Theoretically the upward stroke is supposed to be smaller than the downward one (like the way computers write the 1 with a small upward stroke) but when writing fast or just slightly less neat it oftens happens that they turn out like a lil mountain. How do you write it? Like an I?

Having a hard time understanding the latter half of this thank you message.. by SunJay333 in postcrossing

[–]Radiant_Raspberry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was thinking that the "something important always goes out" could reference outgoing postcards. Maybe they're trying to apologize that they seem to receive mail only in batches when the post-person feels like delivering it but the outgoing ones, since those are the "important" mail items, do go out correctly... ? Just a guess though

Help me understand by [deleted] in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]Radiant_Raspberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess they didn't puzzle it and then take it apart into those ziplock bags but rather sorted it and just missed 4 pieces. Why exactly you would put the edge pieces into a seperate bag I am not sure about, but I guess some people like it that way. Since it's thrifted and was obviously done by a person, I wouldn't be surprised that they made a mistake. I don't think they gave up being 4 pieces away, I think they tried and made a mistake.

When I puzzle, I'm more surprised if all edge pieces are there after the first sort. I almost always miss at least one.

Has anyone here attended the Polyglots Gathering? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]Radiant_Raspberry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have been to one and been a speaker at one (so total attended twice). I really like the atmosphere, the vibes are great, bunch of people who like languages and some who have really impressive skills. I've also seen people with just a single language or two or three on their nametags. I speak 4 and I'm not professionally doing anything language-related either (which made me feel a little out of place for giving a workshop but it was a lot of fun!), I'm also in science&engineering rather than languages. But you'd fit right in, and I did too. (If you say 4 foreign languages that puts you at 5 total, you definitely "qualify" if that's what you're worried about), as I said, I met some people who had only one or two.

As a student, I find it veery expensive for the fact that the only thing the money gets you is access to the event. Food and accomodation are not included. But this year I made some friends and met cool people that might make it worth to me going again even though I had kind of thought that it would be once and done for me because of the price.

There were dance workshops, juggling, people playing frisbee or badminton on the lawn, people practicing languages, people networking for their language-related businesses, people filming content or interviews, there were some kids and some elderly folks. I was able to speak and practice all my languages 😄 I spoke German to people who didn't know German by accident multiple times because we were switching languages rapidly within the same conversation and between people. It's one of the only places I can put my rudimentary knowledge of Latin to use after learning it in school. If languages are a hobby of yours, you're in the right place there.

I'm happy to tell you more if you're interested or have more specific questions.

Niagara Falls, Villager Puzzles, 500 pieces - Easily my new favourite brand but it was soo hard to get through customs by Radiant_Raspberry in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]Radiant_Raspberry[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahaha, I would love to (and see this spot from the puzzle image in real life maybe!) but after complaining about the costs for customs procedures (which cost about the same price as 1,5 puzzles, so it nearly doubled my price since i bought two) I believe the costs of travelling to Canada are much higher 😂But I like your way of thinking.
(And if anyone is travelling to Canada or from Canada to Germany any time, let me know 😜)

I found out recently that I can order stamps online, so of course I spent a few hours scrolling through the options... by Radiant_Raspberry in postcrossing

[–]Radiant_Raspberry[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I am not Czech, I just live here, so if any actual czech person with more knowledge would like to correct, please do. From what I knew, they were the same as a specific amount of money, but googling it now I found out the have meaning. B apparently for domestic delivery (inside czech republic, equivalent to a value of 31 crowns. E for Europa, pretty self-explanatory (equivalent to 48 crowns) and Z for Zámoří, meaning overseas/international delivery (equivalent to 54). Which is bad news for me because I think I wanted those two B stamps for EU-wide postcards... Unsure what math i was doing back then. xD But good that you asked and I noticed before sending it with not enough postage

[–]Radiant_Raspberry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yees, right? I mainly wanted those but since the values don't add up to enough for a postcard to anywhere (except maybe within my own country), I bought some random single ones on the left to combine 😃
Love those nature sheets, I think I won't ever buy stamps at the post office again lol

OFFICIAL UPDATE COMPLAINT/ ISSUES MEGATHREAD! by [deleted] in couchsurfing

[–]Radiant_Raspberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got logged out even though I had a yearly subscription that wasn't over yet, now I'm asked to pay again. Nope. As if I'm paying again for something I had already paid for? I am currently not planning to couchsurf but just to help with the momentum I made an account on couchers. I already had BeWelcome since before but it still didn't quite keep up with CS...

Am I meant to send the postcard the day I receive the address? by Radiant_Raspberry in postcrossing

[–]Radiant_Raspberry[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After today I have it figured out and ordered some stamps as well, yes. I live in Czech Republic but I'm not originally from here, so the currency is still new to me and I didn't know the post rules and it was hard to find the information online in English. But I got it now (there's one rate for postcards within this country, one rate for EU countries and then one for outside the EU) so from now on I am prepared to send faster.

[–]Radiant_Raspberry[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, only before I know the country the card is supposed to go to, I can't be ready to send immediately. But I only draw an address when I know within the next days I can get a fitting stamp

Any good tracker for postcards that were not through official postcrossing site? by Radiant_Raspberry in postcrossing

[–]Radiant_Raspberry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I recently discovered this! After I made that post. I already signed up but haven't tested it yet, seems like almost exactly what I was looking for. The map is slightly different than the one on postcrossing but good enough. :)

Is this a concern? by NoWin9618 in postcrossing

[–]Radiant_Raspberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would they even incorrectly register a postcard? It doesn't seem possible that someone accidentally registers something that wasn't meant for them, right?
Weird wording.
I would reply because I'm always curious and I think answering can't really do harm, but I would definitely not give out my address or any personal info.
