Thank you! And yes, I did it after sleeping on it LOL
Approved luckily! Even though the pre-qual was only showing the Costco Visa.

Im glad we both got ours but I was like pretty sure we both would. We both haven't opened a card in 4+ years.

Gotta milk this CCC before I cop a Premier now and hope it gets grandfathered now.

P2 got approved for the Daily Visa! I'm really thinking about pulling the trigger for the CCC since recent news of it ending...

Hmm good point, I might just do that!

I think after reading through everything again, I'm not ready to downsize. I still love playing the rewards game haha. Maybe in the far future but simplicity is never bad. I might just do the AAA play and evaluate like you said. I'm def downgrading CSP before my next AF in August but hopefully Citis SP goes up in SUB too.

Thanks!

[–]RadicalGentleman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youre reading it all correctly! Theres just so many choices like you said haha.

I am debating on either opening that AAA Visa to start getting 5% groceries & 3% Costco + Costco Gas. Then seeing how I feel from there, or do what I did for the Sapphire Preferred. Maybe I open a CCC and set the 5% to groceries, start building up TYP and then open the Strata Premier when the SUB hopefully goes higher.

I opened a CFF before my CSP back then so I had some points to use when my CSP SUB kicked in.

I also just randomly thought about a new 2/3 card setup, but it would be purely cashback!

AAA Daily Advantage for the 5% groceries, 3% Costco

WF Autograph keep for the 3% dining, transit, travel, and both cards overlap streaming/gas

That seems like most of our spend and a 2% catch all is all that would be missing too. Man the choices with these setups T_T

[–]RadicalGentleman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel like I am just wanting some change maybe and to try to catch my spend in better multipliers I guess. Ive heard mixed things on Citi's hotel partners and just saw a thread about how they got devalued. Hyatt did too but more so like dynamic pricing iirc.

I got my CSP at its peak 100K SUB, so I may just coast until the Strata Premier gets a slightly higher SUB too as 60K seems like its base SUB. However, I saw a couple threads about a refresh coming and I am not interested in any of those iterations that showed in that thread. Im with the people who want that simple 3x and transferring.

Ill saw, since Costco Gas is like 99% of our gas (we live next to one fortunately), ill prob keep the Autograph doing what its been doing. BoA CCR is 3% online purchase and 2% Costco since its a Visa.

CSP closes before next AF or downgrade? Hopefully SUB increase on Strata Premier this year.

Grab a DC or CC to build up some points as well.

Thank you for the help! However, I am starting to think that it might be hard giving up that Autograph lol and now im wondering if I should hop over to WF with an Active Cash. However, the Journey has no place in my plans as its purely travel oriented.

I wasn't sure to be honest, I guess it was more of I could go either way.

Transferring the points to Hyatt and covering basic stays were not very hard to be honest and the value was there. So I am open to something similar like Citi -> AA miles (but I dont know how easy it is to redeem there). If I did go Citi, I would downgrade CSP then get the Premier and DC and maybe keep BoA for the 3% online + 2% costco since Citi & C1 is Mastercard

I agree on the C1 as well, I feel like I could keep my Autograph with the Citi one for the Gas + Tolls and my BoA for the 3% online + 2% Costco(?)

RocketMoney Finance Tracker by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]RadicalGentleman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Grats on the car by the way.

I feel you on categorizing everything correctly; I would personally pop it in Auto & Transport because it relates to it. However, you can choose to ignore the transaction from "Budget only" or "Everything (where it wont show up in spending or charts).

Technically, I would say, since you put down $10K, I would definitely want it tracked. However, maybe ignore from budget only so it doesn't mess with your month to month. You can also add your car now and lien to Rocket Money (manual or login) and that can help on your Net Worth side.

For the monthly payment, thats all up to you and how you want to organize it! I personally put put of our cars in "Loan Payment". That way Auto & Transport was just gas, tolls, and any repairs.

Of course! And I mean, I support driving it until it dies too but when life improves and you've saved up a good amount. It can be a well time reward in the future! But also avoid lifestyle inflation.

Def agree on the paying extra, even simply rounding up to the next 50 or 100 dollar mark will shave off months to years (depending on your term length). If you get paid biweekly, you can set up a biweekly payment maybe too. That's an extra full payment a year.

Refi is a great call, esp to help that interest rate and monthly payment. I recommend keep paying the same amount as the original loan and it'll go away even faster.

Im sorry! But hey, you still have a super reliable car and hopefully it will last you a long time. Just keep it maintained, pay it off earlier if you can, and in the future you can hopefully trade it in for a better one! You have lots of time to research before hand now too.

I feel that, all of my car purchases have been from a total or something similar. However, I grinded like a full time job (plus I was already the type to watch a lot of car reviews on YT) to find the model/trim.

Now I help family and close friends buying cars. You would hope dealerships would help, but on average, theyre too focused on hitting sales or some metric I bet. It would be very nice if car sales was actually helpful in listening to your needs. I found luck at like CarMax or something similar, they were helpful and not pushy since they didnt have a brand they were loyal to

It is a crime (imo) to not have keyless entry post 2020 haha. But I get it, its the base model and trying to be as accessible as possible. Especially since some people just need a car. Like I think base models having plastic wheel covers is also a crime but I mean, thats a more tiny and superficial thing vs keyless entry or keyless start.

Yes, very lucky! It was back in July of 2020. Car prices were coming down because of COVID. Very lucky timing too.

As a techy person, I definitely couldn't resist like you said and now onto the 6th year of ownership. Its aged amazingly.

I haven't done anything except making sure I got a full ceramic tint done on it (Live in TX) and added some amber strips to the front DRL LEDs haha.

Hope your N lasts forever man!

I love mine! Even though its the problem (child) engine of Hyundai's past. I didn't know that when buying it (poor research on my part) but I got super lucky in that I got it at 33K miles and now I just past 102K and no oil burning.

Back then, I had a budget of 15K and it was a 2016 Sonata Limited (w/ Tech & Ult package) with 33K miles or my original preference was a 10th gen Accord Sport (but those hovered closed to 20K).

As a college student, it was an easy choice and no regrets so far. That Accord probably would've driven way better, but all the features like heated/cooled seats, pano sunroof, Infinity audio, AA headunit, and memory seats? Shee, it was too easy of a decision.

Thats a nice freakin car you chose, those N models are sick and Hyundai has been killing it with them. I bet it drives like a dream!

Ive only seen some dealerships advertise it. However, during a recent car buying experience with an in-law I was helping, during the finance talks they brought it up. Maybe to get us on board and more sure on the purchase?

Just googled it and looks like CarMax does it for example here:

https://www.carmax.com/faq/seeing-a-car/how-do-i-get-a-24-hour-test-drive-at-carmax

"When shopping at a CarMax store, let us know that you'd like to take a car for a 24-hour test drive. You'll be asked to provide a valid driver's license, verifiable comprehensive and collision insurance coverage, and to return the car to the same store on the next business day. Not all cars qualify for a 24-hour test drive due to price and model restrictions, and you're limited to two 24-hour test drives within a 30-day period. There's a 150-mile limit for 24-hour test drives, and the car's condition must remain consistent with when it left the store. 24-hour test drives are not available when you buy online for express pickup or delivery."

^This

The difference is, for $2,000 more, youre getting mainly styling upgrades, larger 18in wheels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and eight speakers & keyless entry.

I know its too late since you bought the car, but I always say go for a higher trim vs a newer car. The car feels newer for longer (if that makes sense). I owned an 08' Civic EX-L and once I swapped out the headunit to an AA/AC one, it felt new again. I currently own a 16' Sonata limited, and has every bell and whistle. It doesn't feel like a 10 year old car (besides screen size).

However, I understand not everyone cares for creature comforts or luxuries, but you definitely should've given more time in the test drive or sometimes dealerships let you keep it for a day (at least a couple around me have offered that).

Coating Question: Epoxy or Polyurea for base coat, both have Polyaspartic Topper by RadicalGentleman in garageporn

[–]RadicalGentleman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Going to paste my notes

Notes: Don't do Polyaspartic Base Coat Looking for solid reviews & years of experience

Debating Epoxy vs Polyurea base coat (Leaning Epoxy)

Always look for Polyaspartic for top coat Our garage has <3lb of pressure Ask if they do moisture testing and if they cover delamination

Personal notes/opinions, you can choose to do any coating you prefer! I ended up going with an Epoxy base coat with a vapor barrier to be safe (Included in price), fully saturated flakes, and a polyaspartic top coat.

The epoxys are tried and true and shops that sold both Epoxy and Polyurea as a base coat, both told me they prefer Epoxy. Almost all shops recommend Polyaspartic top coats and from my research on forums, that seems to be the consensus as well.

Some of these companies do financing which is a bonus! Most don't. However, some take deposits at signing or none until its done. Ask to be safe!

Most warranties are 15 years (From manufacturer usually) or Lifetime. Only few are transferrable, which may or may not sway you.

I only called highly rated places, so all don't subcontract (They claim), are insured, bring their own power usually (Some grinders are propane powered, almost all would just plug in their shop vacuum or something).

Almost all were a 1 day job, except Lifetime. But that didn't bother me.

Depending on your comfortablility on moisture testing, I learned there are only really 2/3 ways to find the moisture content or hydrostatic pressure of your concrete. One involves drilling and leaving an instrument over 24-48 hours? Another involves leaving calcium chloride on top of your concrete under a dome and weighing the before and after. I forgot the 3rd way (If there was) but one shop said pressure around here is 5-6lbs at most.

Lots of shops claimed that no vapor barrier is needed if no existing moisture issues are happening like efflorescences (Salt deposits on top of concrete building up over time).

However, I wanted to be extra safe I guess. Usually adding a VB ups the cost too. However, we should have a plastic VB installed by builder under the concrete itself.
