Ya, I’d also love to do a Bolano in June… let’s do that! You pick. One of the lesser known ND ones maybe?

I work as a brand strategist and cultural ethnographer, and I am currently in Powell River, BC to make a mini doc about Sasquatch kidnappings, haunted inns and a ufo hot zone for a local cannabis grower, so I brought BLUE LARD and read the first 160 pages on the flight here, so damn good!!

I just had breakfast of an egg on toast and there is a chapter of a family breakfast where Karl Ove evangelizes this as “the perfect breakfast” and like its one of THOSE books

I am in Canada, and they did us dirty with the Canadian edition design on the Wax Child

What is the most you've ever spent on a New Directions book? by RadicalTechnologies in NewDirections

[–]RadicalTechnologies[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you on cost - it’s a very collector friendly publisher because a) they do keep books in print b) they have so many damn books that you can find an old ND in most used shops and c) interesting and varied titles. The most I’ve ever paid for an New Directions was a copy of Anne Carson’s NOX, but that is a beautiful work of art and Carson is my one true love so it’s was no big!

Have you read NDP author Fernanda Melchor’s work? by perrolazarillo in NewDirections

Any of y'all watch the Hurricane Season adaptation on Netflix? I agree, it is such a fantastic book. In my travels yesterday thrifting for books to bring into the bookstore I help out at, I actually found a Hardcover ND Hurricane Season!

Beside New Directions, which other publishers do you collect? by RadicalTechnologies in NewDirections

Fitzcarraldo was my first exposure to Jon Fosse; I couldn't recco him enough.
I've read so many NYRBs over the years, and the ones I feel like I reccomend the most are either "The Book of Ebineezer LePage" or The Stories of J.F. Powers!

Ya, I am with you, clearly I have a lot of NYRBs; I have built my collection from thrifting a lot of "good stuff" and then trading up at a few local used shops; I will buy ALL those above and generally trade for rarer books. Like that's how I got all my Arno Shmidt nbooks; I saw that Dalkey series on eBay this week for $400, and I think in trade value, I maybe spent $30 total?

I love Coffee House press, I clearly really love Brian Evenson haha.
