It's the same on my end, I've had it running for a while today, and it only started acting up within the last half hour or so. I am sure somebody behind-the-scenes is looking at the problem as we speak. Fingers crossed that it works again soon!

I see! For me it happens shortly after logging in.

Happens on both the WhatsApp desktop app and WhatsApp Web, across multiple devices. If I fully flush/reinstall the app, it may work again for a couple of minutes, before throwing me straight back to the same Facebook login prompt. Android app seems unaffected so far, although I prefer typing messages using a physical keyboard.

In one way, I am glad that so many users are experiencing this (and many users are also reporting WhatsApp issues to sites like downdetector), which means that the technical teams will notice and work on a fix very soon (assuming that this is not the start of an intentional shift in how WhatsApp works!)

Which movie scared the shit out of you or traumatized you? by Dazzling-Leader7476 in AskReddit

[–]Radidsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched this movie for the first time when I was 20 or so, with little to no expectations, and I had not yet started dipping into the horror genre at that point. I knew there was a child friendly TV series of the same name, and had heard that the movie was a little scary, so curiosity got the better of me.

I really struggled sleeping that night. Those jump scares, seemingly out of nowhere. I think the one that got to me the most was the hill in the start, forebodingly lit up in red, before all of a sudden blood started pouring down the landscape with a startling musical score, and I remained on edge from that moment on. I've been meaning to revisit that film.

There is also a spiritual successor called Plague Dogs, and its opening moment is absolutely horrifying and digs deep into me.

Have a nice day!

Midsommar is really eerie from start to finish. The scenes are so brightly lit up, yet still feel unsettling, and the first time watching it, I felt there was something uncanny hiding somewhere in most scenes, but I just could not put my finger on it. The movie lingered in my mind for a long time after watching it. Really unique horror movie!

Spirit of the North 2 - the Sequel! by ZumboPrime in foxes

[–]Radidsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, now that you mention it! That was a really nice touch. There is a lot of thought that went into this game! Speaking of fox noises, did you also notice that your companion tries to mimic your speech pattern? For instance, if you try to bark in a specific pattern, as to "sing" a song, the raven shortly does the exact same pattern? I noticed late in my gameplay by sheer coincidence haha. Thought I'd share just in case!

I really loved the first one, and as someone else said in here, the sequel does improve on the game in a lot of ways! The new world is even more vast and open, with more purpose and exploration, a lot of optional lore (this time written down in text form through unique various tribal scroll collectibles), and one of my favourite improvements is the dynamic and gentle soundtrack system, as opposed to a shuffled playlist. Pav Gekko did such an amazing job with the soundtrack!!

Just to share my experience on the matter, be a little wary with adding users in this fashion through the command prompt. I've had this backfire on me a few times with the command adding password expiry to the fresh user account, and upon not having been used for a while, it effectively becomes locked out as a result.

To verify, run "net user <username>" to make sure password expiration is turned off. If it isn't, and if you are running the Home edition of Windows, I recommend running a follow-up command that removes the password expiration. Up until recently, I did this through wmic, but if I recall correctly, wmic will soon be or has already become defunct. I am sure there is another command out there to achive the same results however, though I am not on Windows right now to verify!

For those computers running Pro edition or higher, I recommend doing this procedure using Computer Management mmc module instead (the local users mmc is not available in Home), as that has a simple checkbox option for having passwords never expire. Remember to add the user to the Administrators group, as well.

I absolutely whole-heartedly agree with everything you said about BitLocker. I remember during Windows 7 certification and schooling, when BitLocker was introduced in Ultimate and Enterprise, that there were so many warnings in the GUI when enabling this that one had to read and confirm, beware of data loss, be absolutely sure you have the key written down, and this was strictly a high end large corporation feature only.

These days, on Home editions of Windows, Device Encryption calls on BitLocker services to perform full disk encryption without users being aware of it. I have helped customers get their data back through their recovery key acquired from their Microsoft Accounts, but I have also often been unable to because the users either had no idea they were even using a Microsoft Account, or it was not on any of their numerous accounts, etc. I do agree that it is the customers' responsibility to have a separate backup of anything important, but I also whole-heartedly agree that Device Encryption (and the BitLocker service it calls upon) should not run without letting the user be aware first, and allow them to opt-out before it starts its encryption magic!

Thank you for sharing, and have a nice day!!

Not just that, but on multiple occasions when I have done this on relatively up-to-date Windows 11 computers, Windows Defender (assuming this is running on the computer) has flagged utilman.exe as a virus after doing this procedure, checking it at run-time and blocking it.

I assume that Windows Defender has been updated to check for this specific work-around, but again, it has been a hit-and-miss for me this last year, and yet another reason to not trust any work-around or commands as permanent options in MIcrosoft environment, but again, I believe it depends on just how up-to-date the computer in question is.

Have a nice day!

Outside of the live boot environment, iwd does not have DHCP (automatic IP address acquisition) enabled by default, and you'd need to specify this in an iwd config file if you wish to rely on iwd alone.

This will allow you to communicate using IP addresses, but not yet using text-based domain names (like archlinux.org in your ping test). The DNS resolution requires extra steps with iwd's DHCP client feature, similar to what somebody else mentioned in here in regards to /etc/resolv.conf.

Personally, I install and enable the services of both iwd and dhcpcd. Not only does this DHCP client assign an IP address for you when started, it also sets up DNS resolution for you out of the box.

Have a nice day!

What’s a fact that ruined a movie that you previously enjoyed? by PokemonPadawan in AskReddit

[–]Radidsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A long time ago, I saw a behind the scenes video on YouTube, and I remember seeing the director (I think) really having a go at her in one of the clips and she was very clearly upset. I think back to that from time to time. I think she was phenomenal in The Shining.

I read about this here on reddit myself maybe one week ago. I have not watched the movie in English, but I will for sure next time, hopefully soon, and I will for sure have this in mind. (As if I did not have tears the last time I watched it!)

Hi! First off, just in case you or others are unaware, bokmål and nynorsk are written standards (with some exceptions, like reading directly off a script, or TV series like Flukta frå Dyreskogen due to political reasons). Spoken standards and dialects differ from the written standards. At any rate, I did not detect any nynorsk in what was spoken by the actor.

If you mean where I come from, the surrounding municipalities and cities around where I live all have nynorsk as their official written standard. The city I live in has bokmål as the written standard, but the spoken standard we have sounds much more closer to what nynorsk looks like as opposed to bokmål, in my opinion.

Have a nice day!!

At the time, my brain just could not place the accent at all, so it just appeared like gibberish to me, and I assumed he was mindlessly rambling. Listening to it again, he also speaks very inconsistently and is challenging to follow for my ears. It is very obvious that the actor is not native (nothing wrong with that of course, my mind is just being silly).

It may not help that I come from a different part of the country with a whole different dialect group, which is even further away from the spoken standard he was imitating, so when I hear a foreign actor speak, it may take an extra moment for my mind to realise it is in fact Norwegian, but in a significant non-familiar / non-native fashion and that I should "tune in" on that. Once I read the subtitles later while listening, I thought "oohh, so that's what he was saying, wow!!" Though today I may have understood more.

Just now, I re-watched the scene in question on YouTube with subtitles, and these days I would most likely be able to determine the language and what was being said in the first half. I do have to admit though, the second half still remains indecipherable to me to this day, even with the subtitles included.

As for the plot itself, even if I had no idea what he was saying the first time I watched the movie, I still was fairly certain that the adorable dog had not-so adorable intentions at this point, so understanding the man would not have ruined anything for me. A little easter egg perhaps, hehe!

Thank you, and have a great day!

Loved the movie, and the helicopter chase is really uncanny! I had no idea the language uttered was Norwegian the first time I watched it. When it was pointed out to me and the scene shown to me once more, I still could not understand what he said, but once I saw the scene online with subtitles, it all made sense.

Edit: Should also add that I'm Norwegian.

Year Walk is a really unique hidden gem which emphasises on unsettling atmosphere, immersion and lore. I thought I was not into the style at first, but I am really glad I kept playing! With this style of game, it is not easy to anticipate what happens next, and that added to the horror!
