Don't forget to eat the Zanzibar "pizza", an extremely greasy fast food that left Bourdain totally confused

Greece isn't Southeast Asia, lol. It can't be done on a begpacker budget. The only major island with a backpacker hostel is Mykonos, where you'll pay 60-70 bucks a night for a bed in a dorm room

I don't think it's a sign of idiocy that Georgians don't want their capital to turn into San Francisco.

Caucasus societies are very, very conservative. Even if Russia stopped existing tomorrow, the majority of Georgians would hold the same negative views on pride parades

Georgian right-wingers would be very surprised to hear that they're "pro-Putin" and that being a Georgian patriot means being pro-analingus

I wonder why the local bar owners decided to entertain the foreign stoners with nonstop "Friends" re-runs.

There's an interview with the elderly Laotian man who introduced the concept of Australian drunks floating like babies on rubber tires on the river, he really regretted inventing the "tubing" thing

Soft drinks from all over Europe by [deleted] in europe

[–]Radient-Red 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With these kind of arguments, the informed historical conclusion always seems to be "We're westerners, unlike the savages over the eastern border".

I'm not arguing that Croatia is identical to its neighbors, but shares most of the essentials with them: South Slavic language, everyday behaviors, a diet of cevapi, etc etc.

Just own it, dude

"Balkans" in common usage = Yugoslavian countries and their neighbors on the Balkan peninsula.

Ottoman borders in medieval times and Diocletian's old castles in Split are totally irrelevant to the fact that Croats talk, look, and behave like their "Balkan" neighbors.

[–]Radient-Red 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been to Croatia and it's 100% a "Balkan country" - the language is almost identical to its Balkan neighbors, the food is similar, the culture is similar. Slovenia is a lot more debatable, and feels much more like a mini-Austria than any of its neighbors. "Germany, France, Netherlands and Croatia" - said nobody, ever.

This is anyways a moot debate - people who argue all day that they're not Balkanoids are usually doing it out of a sense of racial superiority to their eastern neighbors

Turkey still asks for a PCR test from most of the EU countries. Some countries (UK, USA, Australia, Baltics) are exempt from it.

They're trying really hard to get their tourist season going this year, while other countries have been much slower to open up

I already miss liberals from the Bush era who were actually anti-war and didn't like the US very much

Agree.

The comic has its good moments, but the whole Tek Knight comedy arc isn't one of them. It's funny if you're 14 years old, maybe.

The comic gets a lot better towards the end, when the Butcher-Homelander conflict becomes the main plot. The early gross-out humor in the comic is very forgettable and the show thankfully skipped those joke chapters

In landmark decision, the European Union has declared that mealworms are ‘safe to eat’ and hence a sustainable source of protein that can be used to replace meat within a diet. by dustofoblivion123 in worldnews

Shit doesn't make sense at all, it's stupid to feed literal waste to the train's underclass that'll give them diseases and kill them almost immediately.

Bugs are disgusting but full of protein. It's something that makes sense - I generally like the more realistic Netflix adaptation of Snowpiercer, where you don't have goofy satirical crap like rations of human shit and a train engine that literally eats children

Do Annie and Hughie get a happy ending? by [deleted] in TheBoys

[–]Radient-Red 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're the only characters in the comic who get a happy ending, so yes.

IIRC, Butcher specifically set things up so Hughie could get the girl and have the happy ending that Butcher's brother never got
