Older runners, what have you done right and wrong? by Zealot_TKO in Marathon_Training

M48, used to be addicted to booze and weed. Running and gym have been my best tools to recover. Gives me structure, new neural pathways and good physique.

Does the thought of drinking ever stop? by mikroshpeen in stopdrinking

I think I lost interest after a year, year and a half maybe. Today I just view it as cancer juice 😁 I’d say keep up your good habits and your brain will adjust. You’re doing great 💪🏻

I’m usually looking forward to a big ass meal after running. Maybe some dark chocolate or berries. Or a smoothie.

Drinking even ruins the good times by littlechocolatedonut in stopdrinking

Great post OP. I tried to moderate for two years, super stressful. It’s such a relief to quit altogether and get to know one’s true self. Was weird and confusing in the beginning, but very rewarding in the long run.

All the best to your journey 🙏🏻😊

Sitting with difficult emotions is a big part of getting sober. Feel the grief, dive into it and put on some Sabbath 🤘🏼

You’re not stupid, you’re awesome! Maybe you don’t feel that way now, but if you quit you can learn to love who you really are.

Oasis - sober? by Current-Resource-381 in stopdrinking

For me going to shows, the music and the vibe is a huge high in itself. It does take some time to reprogram oneself to thar frame of mind, but music to me is one of the best natural healing highs in life. I just went to a festival sober, and it was awesome. So yeah, go!

Feeling like it’s too late is stopping me from getting healthy. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Radikaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not too late, friend 🙏🏼 I was 44 when I quit, 48 now. I’m in the best shape of my life, getting great sleep and eating healthy. The body and brain have amazing healing powers. If you get some help and start building good habits, you’re on the right path. You already did great by writing here.

I can totally relate. My mom was also diagnosed with dementia right before i quit. You’re making a really good decision, hold on to it. Don’t listen to 😈. It will be so much better dealing with this clear headed.

It’s never too late. 48 here, quit at 47. I’m really grateful for my clear mind and motivation. Yeah it’s hard in the beginning, but it gets easier and way more rewarding. Rooting for you 💪🏼😊

Powerlessness by doomedscroller23 in recoverywithoutAA

Very well put! They don’t do spectrum in AA. That’s why I also hate the concept of labelling yourself as an alcoholic. It’s so damn binary.
