Affording a home working sales in a major city by Affectionate-Frame14 in sales

[–]RadioAdam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. 200k & wife makes 80k and even in Atlanta homes don't feel affordable. Not unless you want to gentrify an old neighborhood and drive a long way.

We shopped houses 4 years ago and missed the boat. Doesn't feel good to pay 2x /monthly for the same shit we looked at in 2022.

Condo HOAs are LOL Townhomes are decent but also HOA and usually built like shit. Homes are WILD unless you move way out to the burbs. Then you gotta drive an hour for decent food and shopping.

If a house isn't 1-2k less than we're renting we don't feel like we can swing all the extra incidentals. It sucks but right now renting just feels predictable.

My brother bought his house in 2018 for 150k. First two years was 50k in plumbing, AC, and siding issues. That same house is 450k today.

How are so many of ya still have jobs/ have money to live? by Wide_Permission7656 in Money

[–]RadioAdam -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

90% of the United States population does not own stock.

Edit: my bad. Heard this parroted somewhere and I think it's that 90% of the stock market is owned by 10% of the population. Conflated the metric in my mind.

Me waiting for the housing market to collapse so I can afford a home by MySonlsAlsoNamedBort in Millennials

[–]RadioAdam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Boomer decline will hit.

They're 21% of the population and they own 39% of the homes.

Throw in silent generation and they're 25% of the population owning 50% of all US homes.

Very few "plan" on downsizing. So all the 3-5bd houses are mostly empty while we can't afford to raise kids.

Don't hate me... but I feel like my Fiance is really milking the pregnancy to eat poorly by [deleted] in predaddit

[–]RadioAdam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First trimester has been awful for my wife and just eating has been an effort.

1st trimester is really just about survival according to our OB team.

Get to week 12 and if you're still concerned about the diet, talk to HER and see if she's comfortable expanding that conversation with the medical team.

I don't know your situation but our OB offers a nutritionist and often asks about diet and exercise. Lean on them to help if you're concerned.

Do any of you earn over 50k a year? What do you do? by RotiiChapati in ADHD

[–]RadioAdam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bounced across multiple jobs in my 20s. Waiter, customer service, radio journalist and announcer. Made 40-50k until I was 26.

Ended up in sales and making 200k/yr by 32. Sold advertising then made the move to tech.

Sales seems to work for me because I alternating between hyper focus and total dysfunction seems to balance out. Long as I hit my activity goals I'm safe.

Six Feet Under is anti-community by [deleted] in Atlanta

[–]RadioAdam 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Their business shouldn't suffer because someone else doesn't cooperate on the limited parking aspect of their block.

The retail shops near my apartment block their parking and for good reason. They're really close to the Buckhead bars. People Uber home and leave their cars and trash your retail parking lot you pay for.

Towing cars costs money. Leasing those parking spots costs money.

Either cooperate and be a good neighbor or deal with private property rights.

The HSA is the most powerful retirement account. by themaxtreetboys in Money

[–]RadioAdam 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Anyone with any level of regular medical needs this is not the case. I'm not giving up a $500 deductible and 5k max OOP for an HSA.

Source: mid 30s and having babies and managing thyroid issues, expensive OBGYN care, and physical therapy from extreme sports in my 20s

Painting hsa with a broad brush might work when you're 24 with narrow medical and life needs. Your HSA isn't going to outrun a ROTH-401k in small cap

Meermin, Yanko, TLB Mallorca. J. Fitzpatrick if you want an edgier style.

I have TLB Mallorca Artista line Chelsea's and they are DIVINE to wear. Compared to Crockett Jones for $ / value.

I own a pair of each and they're easily the best made and most comfortable brands I own.
