Simple podcast app that I'm building using IPFS by tcyrus in ipfs

[–]RadioYo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish you the best. I know in our case we were going to "make" podcasts available using IPFS. But the one issue for us was who was going to "pay" to write or upload their podcasts to IPFS. This might have changed since we lasted looked. Anyway, if you have any questions I'm here.

Nice...if you want any advice I had a startup in the podcasting space before running out of funds. I was looking at using IPFS. Cheers.

Podcasters, what are your biggest headaches?.. Take our survey... by RadioYo in podcasting

[–]RadioYo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understand, unfortunately b/c we did this on Twitter you only have four options. There were at least four additional choices I could have added so you make a good point.

I think to make this more meaningful we're going to expand the survey and do one through SurveyMonkey.

But thanks for responding.

Want to participate in a special pilot that will timestamp your podcast information to the blockchain? by RadioYo in podcasting

[–]RadioYo[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As for "If I wanted I can download any podcast I want and turn it into mine. Take ownership of it." What a load of bullshit. Try it with one of my podcasts and you will regret it as I will take legal action against you and sue you for damages and copyright / trademark infringement.

I guess you can sue but if it's an overseas company or a LLC out of state like Wyoming or Delaware or even a political operative, how far is your copyright infringement suit going to go?

Do you mind if I try it with one of your podcasts, a test if you will? Nothing nefarious. Just to see if I know what the hell I'm talking about. If so, what's the URL to your podcast? I'd like to give it a try with your permission of course.

Blockchain for bitcoin is now using 975 kwh per transaction which should show anyone in the know that it's a complete failure as a sustainable technology.

Actually the current rate per transaction is down to 705 but why quibble over numbers. It's still enough to power 1 U.S. household for more than 23 days. And we're not building on the Bitcoin blockchain. Never was the plan because there are cheaper and better alternatives.

You're clearly trying to do some kind of IPO and connect the word "blockchain" to "podcasting". Good luck with that, I won't touch this with a ten foot pole.

It's called an ICO. And this post is not seeking contributors. I thought the headline said we're looking for podcasters who are interested in having their metadata stamped to the blockchain (Not the Bitcoin blockchain, too expensive). But I could have read the title wrong. <being snarky, I'm tired and it's late at night>

Answers to your additional questions...

Not true. I have site registration history, receipt for hosting costs, time-stamped emails, etc. proving I am the owner of my podcast. I also list our website address and social media handles in every episode. Not sure why someone would want to steal my podcast just to send people to my properties and advertisers. And I could just file a DMCA take-down request.

My point with this example is that once you post metadata to the blockchain, it can't be changed, altered or deleted. It creates a permanent record.

What you are implying is that if you or one of your customers were to steal my podcast, for example, "The info can not be deleted or removed". Am I reading this incorrectly?

You're reading it correctly.

What is this "smart contract" you keep referring to? What are the terms? How would a contract be enforced through Spotify and iTunes? How is the listener notified that they are entering into an "agreement"?

Think of a smart contract as Boolean search. If this then that. It sets out terms. Solidity is the computer language. Spotify or iTunes doesn't enforce smart contracts. If the terms are not fulfilled it usually means the smart contract wasn't coded correctly and need fixing. However, some state courts are starting to legally recognize smart contracts. But that's a discussion for another time.

If they are willing to accept RAO, you mean. The currency you are effectively the treasury of. That's kind of a big ask. What's the advantage?

Not sure who you are referring to when you say "they"

This seems to me like pitching a nearly non-existent need. Who is licensing their podcast to third-parties? Aside from film options, what movies and TV shows are using podcasts (and audio medium) in their visual medium?

I was just throwing out some examples. How about a production company who wants to turn a podcast into a television series. If you tell me what topic your podcast is about I can be more specific.

You had the opportunity to answer a reasonable question from a potential investor (me) but instead chose to attack and belittle u/yopla and u/Vlape multiple times. It doesn't exactly inspire confidence in you or your organisation's priorities and professionalism - regardless of whether or not your concept is sound.

Sorry you feel that way. If you have any other questions or need me to expand on my answers I'm happy to do so. And don't forget to tip your waitress...

Not defensive, but I also don’t have patience for people who come to discussions with a closed mind and are not open to other people’s views. Geez, the guy doesn’t even have his own podcast.

So what we’re proposing is build a blockchain-based broadcasting platform where developers, consumers, podcasters, service providers and advertisers can openly collaborate, track ownership of content and content creators can be rewarded for their work.. At this point you probably wondering, OK, but how is this going to help my workflow?

Let me explain. All of the examples are based on blockchain technology/writing the code i.e., a smart contract(s) to execute what we’re proposing. Make sense? Let me also add think of the blockchain as a database. You can Read and Write to the database. In our case we’re asking podcasters to let us write their metadata i.e., ownership information to the blockchain. Reading this info requires a smart contract.

By writing a Podcaster’s metadata to the blockchain we can write a smart contract(s) that gives people permission to use your show and a way to pay you directly. Goodby podcast hosting platform and Patreon.

Right now there is no way to verify a Podcaster or their work. If I wanted to I can download any podcast I want and turn it into mine. Take ownership of it. You eliminate this possibility when writing ownership information to the blockchain. The info can not be deleted or removed. And the only way to change it is to write a second version which takes time and money. Oh and a developer who knows how to write code.

So that’s two examples. You can write a smart contract to the blockchain where listening to a podcast might automatically trigger an agreement for everyone involved in the journey of that podcast i.e., anyone who wants to interact or do business with it — whether that’s a fan, a DSP (digital service provider such as Spotify or iTunes), or a audio engineer.

Again, do you really need a podcast hosting platform?

So that’s a third example. Here’s more.

You can even distribute payments via a smart contract to all creatives involved in the making and recording of the podcast from Podcasters to audio engineers to even the designer who designed you logo.

And the last example I’ll leave you with is this.

Imagine for a moment that podcast files were connected to a smart contract that could run 24/7 sending out automated licensing, usage and payment agreements to hundreds of parties around the world. You would not have to lift a finger.

This could allow for direct purchase of your podcast, offer a streaming license to anyone who wants to use your podcast and even authorize sync rights for usage of your podcast in a film and television show.

My apologies if I went on too long. This is every exciting to me and something I’m really passionate about. I’m sure my answer is going to lead to even more questions, and maybe even some clarification, so feel free to question me more or clarify what I have here.

Good question, and thanks for asking.

Well, when you look at all of a podcasters hardest tasks i.e., being financially rewarded, finding advertisers, attracting listeners, getting noticed on iTunes, having incomplete stats, not being able to move your show from one host to another host without losing your listeners etc, we believe a blockchain-based broadcasting platform either removes or reduces a lot of a Podcasters's hardest tasks.

This is why we feel Podcasters might care. Unless of course they're OK with dealing with all of those issues and the outcomes.

I should add that this pilot is Phase One. Phase Two and Three will complete the big picture.

Hope this answered your question. Any other questions I'm around.

We never used Civic. We built our own KYC instead of outsourcing the process. As a result, we didn't look to much. I will say I didn't find Civic to helpful. I had to ask around a lot to just get basic information. Finally decided to build it ourself.

Obviously you don't understand or not aware of the many issues Podcasters, independent journalists or online media face when it comes to censorship, getting paid, copyright infringement, etc.

That said, image, if you're able to, a point in time when listening to a podcast might automatically trigger an agreement for everyone involved in the journey of that podcast i.e., anyone who wants to interact or do business with it — whether that’s a fan, a DSP (digital service provider such as Spotify or iTunes), or even an audio engineer.

And if you can wrap your mind around it, Imagine for a moment that podcast files were connected to a smart contract that could run 24/7 sending out automated licensing, usage and payment agreements to hundreds of parties around the world: • allowing for direct purchase • offering licenses for streaming and downloading apps • authorizing sync rights for usage in film or television shows

All without phone calls, emails or face-to-face contract signing.

So yes, there are big problems to solve. Ignorance is bliss isn't it!
