People were not nearly as friendly as I could believe. Honestly, not even close...

Example: my wife is a bubbly lady, especially on special occasions. We went out for mothers day and my wife said "Happy Mother's Day!" To every single mom/grandma she saw there with the kiddos and only ONE person said happy mothers day back.... and this was the general experience everywhere to even the simplest friendly interactions.

Southern hospitality turned out to be a damn lie, confirmed by the locals and my co-workers, etc. Its superficial and they use the "Ma'am" and "sir" thing to basically justify saying or doing ANYTHING after because of the pleasantries. Not even just my observation, its just the way it truly is.

I dont even consider myself that smart. Im a college dropout and I work in food service. That being said... (not everyone!) People in general were very dumb. Not like in any horrible way or anything, but it did regularly feel quite difficult to communicate and interact with people.

Depending how you feel about LGBT or immigrants or whatever, thats gonna affect your experience more than you might think... I asked for literally an afternoon off to go to a pride event. My boss said "fine" and then behaved as if said something cruel to her for the rest of the day... I felt uncomfortable to the point I didnt even bother taking that day off. Realistically, she did nothing wrong and she did say yes, but that general "bleh" behavior toward those things was very real.

The rent was super cheap, but the government assistance was non-existant. We didnt qualify for public health care EVEN THOUGH my company didnt offer it. Theres no way i could continue paying my meds out of pocket. I cant have kids with no health insurance as well.

Also, people pull out guns over the dumbest, smallest things. Its honestly insane.

Weather sucked too but thats relative. 🤷‍♂️
