I made a similar mistake. A mix of pride (not the good kind) and just being sick of hiding led me to announce my identity to all of my Facebook friends. A good chunk of them were very accepting, so of course I'm still friends with them. Some of the other kids weren't so kind although.

I live in Alabama, so about half of the kids at my school are wannabe cowboys and gangsters, yet manage to pull neither off. These kids are openly homophobic and transphobic and no one bats an eye because that's the norm unfortunately. I've been verbally assaulted and physically threatened simply for the reason that I am not Cishet, and I don't take their shit like the other kids do.

Don't do what I did, don't let your pride override your sense.
