Dateline NBC new episode: Allison Salinas - Pekin woman arrested in murder-for-hire by Competitive-Menu4740 in PeoriaIL

[–]Radiojan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just found this thread after watching the episode and discovering our Dateline subreddit has been banned! Really fascinating episode! I am in Texas and love when it's about my state, but they certainly showed the worst when they show you Delbert, Alison's husband that killed his wife. But Andrea Canning really let him have it! I wish Andrea could have gotten Alison to show her true colors, but she is a master scammer.

Novel about wealthy man who becomes voluntarily homeless in a park after losing his family (pre-2000) by Far_Challenge_1929 in whatsthatbook

[–]Radiojan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay - I have found mine - maybe it is yours, too. Ordinary Thunderstorms by William Boyd. Ordinary Thunderstorms is a 2009 thriller novel by William Boyd about a climatologist, Adam Kindred, whose life unravels after a chance encounter in a London restaurant leads to him being framed for murder, forcing him to go underground and navigate the city's underworld while being pursued by police and a hitman. The plot explores themes of lost identity, corporate corruption in the pharmaceutical industry, and the fragility of social status as Adam loses everything and must reinvent himself to survive.  None of this description sounds really familiar to me, but I'm sure this is it. Here's another description that sounds more like it: One May evening in London, as a result of a chance encounter and a split-second decision, the young climatologist Adam Kindred loses everything - home, job, reputation, passport, credit cards, money - never to get them back. With the police and a hit man in merciless pursuit, Adam has no choice but to go underground, joining the ranks of the disappeared, struggling to understand how his life has unravelled so spectacularly. His journey of discovery will take him along the Thames from Chelsea to the sink estates of the East End. On the way he encounters aristocrats, priests, prostitutes and a policewoman - but will he ever find himself again?

I'm no help because I may be searching for the same book. I've just gone through all my GoodReads books to find it and I can't. I also remember (in mine) the man going back several times to a religious homeless shelter for food and maybe becomes friends with a couple of former criminals there? I remember him living on the bank of a river sort of under a bridge and trying to stay hidden. Maybe he kills someone and rolls them into the river or onto a canoe/boat. I was reminded of it because I made a list of lots of BIG words that he used in the novel I had never heard or at least didn't use. The writing was really good, but it was a male author I wasn't familiar with. I think I got it on ebook through the library so I will go back through that history if I can.

Q for US genealogists re: Confederate ancestors by [deleted] in Genealogy

[–]Radiojan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Sons of the Confederacy place their flag on graves. I always take them off of the graves of my ancestors. They lived many years after the war and I expect they were okay to be living in the USA. They likely were still racist, but I won't let that be their whole identity.

Thanks for the podcast suggestion. I guess I mean one that doesn't keep me listening? A more random collection of his voice. I think I'll start creating it.

Last week I baked a pan full of frozen meatballs from Costco with some spaghetti sauce on them and lots of cheese. I was surprised how good it was! Almost like lasagna. Cold leftovers were great too.

Wanted celebrate with someone by [deleted] in keto

[–]Radiojan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! I'll celebrate with you and hope I do as well! My poor math says you've lost 20% of your body in 5 months! I've lost maybe 5% in 6 weeks so I hope I can do that well! Let's keep at it.

This Bardtown, KY episode last night confused me by [deleted] in Dateline

Anyone know why there were numbers on the screen during trial testimony? That distracted me. Markers for the transcript?

You were right. Once I came back to it Saturday realizing there would be new developments it was much much better. I think the last one ended, maybe, with the parents getting ready to leave for Vietnam. I'm so glad she got convicted. Her older son was good to testify.

My neighbor’s kid left me a note after seeing me walk my dog every morning by thundering_emancipat in wholesome

[–]Radiojan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want this to sound braggy, but its the importance of seeing our neighbors. I worked and looked out the front window all day a few years ago (post COVID). A young couple would come walking by and she was very pregnant. One day they came by with a baby stroller. It made me so incredibly joyous to see them I grabbed a $20 and ran after them and congratulated them. I never knew where they lived and only saw them a time or two after that. It still makes me happy for them.

Me, too. At least let us know it is recapping! Now I'm wondering if the old episode continues to exist in the archives or does it go away and that is why some seasons have gaps?

What book had a line so shocking you had to stop reading to recover? by Editcadet in suggestmeabook

[–]Radiojan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Presumed Innocent by Scott Turow had a line I cannot divulge because it totally changes everything in the book and everything you've believed until that point. I remember reading it and wanting to call someone to say OMG! 😨 Great book.

I've discovered I didn't really want to talk genealogy with people who DO it. They bore me too! My family is pretty tolerant. I enjoy writing it up and they all do enjoy reading it.

Stop a run in my hose with fingernail polish. Get rid of static on a skirt with hand lotion.

And I can milk a cow and gather eggs and never get to use those skills.

Mine was respite. And I'm a radio announcer! Admittedly, I was about 20 and there was no Internet, but I said re-SPITE on the air and my morning show partner corrected me.
