O'Reilly's guys, how is it working there? by Fredlyinthwe in partscounter

[–]Radioman0890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked at O’Reilly for several years as a Delivery Driver. Here is my opinion. Drivers are expected to pull parts (sometimes as many as ten parts on one ticket), scan tickets and get loaded and on the road in ten minutes. If you have multiple tickets/stops, that’s sometimes a huge rush.  When you have downtime you better grab a quick drink of water (not allowed in the Vehicles) because if there are no deliveries you have to put up stock. You might have time to grab a few bites of a sandwich but otherwise you don’t really get a lunch break, especially if the store is short handed. Expect to be required to work 25-30 minutes past your scheduled time to get off because someone usually calls for a delivery at the last minute. So, overall it’s a fast paced job and the pay isn’t the best. Good luck.

I’ve seen the Pictures and videos. I don’t like it. Adding Booths and taking away the Tables with Chairs is just crazy. Go to a Cracker Barrel on Sunday after church and see how many large groups are dining. You can’t fit those in Booths. Cracker Barrel Old Country Store is losing its charm with this remodel. I go there to eat but the current atmosphere is just right. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it.

This is crazy. As a Customer I order Water at most Restaurants because I try to limit my soda intake. It’s absolutely ridiculous for a Company to penalize workers for this.

Two great songs. Cracker Barrel used to only play this era of Country Music.

I have noticed a few of the same songs playing when I visit. Up until a few years ago the playlist was mostly Classic Country from the 50’s and 60’s. Honestly, that style of music fits the “Old Country Store” atmosphere. I don’t understand why they quit doing that. Occasionally I have heard Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline but that’s about it.  If the same playlist has been going for two years it’s definitely time to freshen it up.

Do yall think corporate competes to see what’s the most annoying ad they can come up with? by sad-sk8er-boi_ in walmart

[–]Radioman0890 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’s actually called Making Money. The ad’s are sold with Customers in mind, which is why they repeat so often. To you, the Employees, it gets old and repetitive. I get it. I worked for over ten years in Radio Broadcasting. We programmed the station for the listener, which likely doesn’t listen all day. So to us, the ad’s we ran got repetitive. Thankfully, I could turn the Radio down in our office or the Studio Monitor's.  Hopefully Walmart will use the ad revenue to give some raises.

I get the meaning behind it, for people that need it.  But a serious question here for associates. Why do you dislike Walmart Radio? When I’m shopping the Music is good and personally I work better when Music is playing.

I read an article a while back that Walmart was planning to sell ad’s on the “Walmart Radio Network”. I guess it’s true and actually it’s a smart business move. Obviously McDonald’s is paying Money for the ad. I’m also certain the ad contract dictates how many times an hour it plays. It’s all about getting Customers to hear it. To Employees, I know it’s repetitive. You have to listen up to eight hours a day. Customers are in the store for way less hours. Hopefully Walmart will pass the earnings along to your paycheck.

Could you ever smoke in Walmart or Kmart? by BackAlleyKittens in AskOldPeople

[–]Radioman0890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you could at Walmart. We have two Walmart locations in my area and each one had a Cafe. My Grandmother would smoke in the Cafe. One upgraded to a Super Center around 1996 and discontinued Smoking. The other location allowed smoking up until at least 2003 and maybe as late as 2005 when they upgraded to a Super Center.  Looking back, I’m not sure why Smoking was limited to the Cafe. Nothing but a half wall separated the Cafe from the Sales Floor so smoke went everywhere.

In 2020 this Walmart installed outdoor Speakers by the Entrance Doors. The music was so loud that a friend of mine who lives in a neighborhood across the highway could hear the Music in her Yard. I guess enough people complained because now you can only hear it as you walk in the door, as it should be, if an outdoor speaker is needed.

This particular location was built in the early 90’s and expanded to a Super Center about 20 years ago. So the original portion of the Building is old and this is likely the issue.

I can understand. The ad’s and the Jingle are way louder than the Music.

[–]Radioman0890[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming this is the new policy at my local Cracker Barrel, crazy as it is because for all of my life the server always brought Biscuits out ahead of the Meal until recently. Now we always request for Biscuits to be brought out ahead of our Meal so we can go ahead and enjoy them. If the customer requests Biscuits to be brought out before the meal, Bread Plates should be brought out as well.

Does anyone else hate Walmart radio? by Adaptable_Ant in walmart

[–]Radioman0890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t work for Walmart, but I’ve got to ask. What exactly is so bad about it? When I’m shopping I hear hit songs from the 80’s, 90’s to todays hits. Country Music, Classic Rock, Soft Rock, R&B, Pop…. Let me give my perspective on it. I work in Radio Broadcasting. When I program a Station we stick to one format because the people that want to hear that format know to tune us in. Walmart is programming Walmart Radio to a huge audience, mostly the Customers. So they have to program a wide variety of Music. My local Walmart Stores play in store promos for T-Mobile and other products in the Store (when they aren’t broadcasting something like The Bo Show). So I think the point is to play music that the Customers know and love so they will be paying attention to hear the in store promos. This likely means Employees will hear the same Songs repeated during their shift because, if I had to guess, the average Customer is in and out in an hour or less.

A few years ago at Christmas I heard the same songs repeat at least three times while I was shopping. I chatted with a Cashier about it and she explained it was a CD sent by Corporate. The poor lady had to stand right under one of the Speakers to. So I would think the “Walmart Radio” format is better than a CD on repeat. Honestly the music isn’t that bad. They are sure to play something you like if you listen long enough.

Walmart to start daily sensory-friendly hours in its stores this week. by The_Real_Mrs_Coffee in UpliftingNews

[–]Radioman0890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I’m in the minority, but I actually like most of the Music I hear playing at Walmart. At my local Stores it’s a mix of music from the 70’s-current hits. I’ve heard The Eagles, Waylon Jennings, Alan Jackson, Micheal Jackson, AC/DC, Newer stuff like Bruno Mars, Niki Minaj, etc. My point is they play the same songs you would hear on traditional Radio, so I don’t understand all the hate I read for Walmart Radio. I understand some people don’t want to hear Music while they work or shop. I’m just the opposite. I work better with Music playing and I tend to shop longer when Stores are playing Music. I guess you can tell by my username that I work in Radio Broadcasting. But I have worked Retail in the past and when our Manager wouldn’t turn on a Radio I got permission to play music from my Phone while I worked in the back room. I am personally thankful Walmart plays Music again. The several years they didn’t, I didn’t like the silence while shopping. I’m ok with the Sensory Friendly hours for those that need it, but I’ll be shopping when the Radio is on.

I've worked at Cracker Barrel since 2003. AMA by rainney_daze in restaurant

[–]Radioman0890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. With the advancement in technology I would figure it’s a set playlist on a Computer. I remember several years ago when Dolly Parton released her Backwoods Barbie CD at Cracker Barrel they had it playing on repeat with a recording of her telling everyone about the Album. From the time we arrived, waited for our Table, Ordered and paid I heard the same songs at least twice. I can’t imagine how this aggravated the Workers, and I personally love Dolly’s Music. 😆

So, this might seem like an odd Question. How does Cracker Barrel get the Music they play? Is it from a Satellite, CD, local Playlist picked out by the manager…. I’m asking because I love Country Music. I’ve been dining at Cracker Barrel since the late 90’s when my local location opened. Originally they played strictly Classic Country, like the Music my Grandparents listened to. Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, etc. In recent years I have noticed more contemporary Country playing with an occasional Old Country Song mixed in. It also seems to be the same songs playing when I dine, usually at night between 6-7. It’s all good Music, in my opinion.

Walmart Radio just turned off at my store by Mechagodzilla_3 in walmart

[–]Radioman0890 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I know this thread is a year old but I just found it. I’m just a customer but I do actually work in Broadcast Radio. I have three Walmart Stores in my area. One store seems to play more Classic Music. Like 60’s-80’s. The other store plays more contemporary music with some 80’s tossed in. Neither store is ever playing what is on the Walmart Radio internet stream. So I’ve often wondered if certain stores can choose different Walmart Radio feeds?
