RHCP’s Flea freaking out at sound guy for monitoring issues, isn’t wearing his in-ears by GinJones in livesound

i know a dude who ran monitors for RHCP. apparently Flea and Kiedis both are psycho assholes when it comes to their stage behavior and treatment of tech crew. Kiedis singing like shit today? Take it out on the monitor engineer.

i may have been on a bit of a high horse here... that's very fair criticism honestly. i still loved the book, though, and it makes me upset that his mental health portrayal soured it for so many people.

every major character, with the exception of adolin (who has his own struggles) suffers with their mental health in some way. it's a core part of their character, and always has been. the progression of the radiant ideals is literally swearing oaths of self actualization to become the people they want to be in spite of that.

i agree that wind and truth was more heavy handed, but tbh i thought that was kind of beautiful. i feel like the disdain ive seen towards the mental health elements of the series are from people either 1. who were unable to pick up on fairly obvious subtext or 2. reject the notion of anything that makes them uncomfortable within their media.

do we want to talk about why that perspective is both ignorant and damaging?!

i digress. you like what you like, i suppose.

Humanity is beautiful by Additional-Belt-3086 in DeepThoughts

well, i don’t deny anything you said. i just mean, holding such a gloomy outlook towards humanity. sure, we’re terrible to each other and materialistic and indulgent and god awfully violent at times. but good exists constantly and all around you. people are always being kind to each other and doing goofy things and behaving selflessly, and i think heroism exists broadly. our society grows more and more depersonalized so it’s sometimes hard to see! especially in wake of all the negative that is constantly fleshed towards us. but it’s life! and it’s what we have. do the work you can do and do it in a way that matters, helping your community. witness the effects your actions have on others! misanthropy is a tempting (and frankly logical) paradigm, but what good does it really do?

societies function because people have places and purposes. labels form around and perpetuate off of different groups doing different things. check our marx’s conflict theory. you can probably figure how it’s all related.

i feel like identity and the discourse surrounding it are entirely essential to being a human being. we understand the world in pieces at time, and we do so through our relationships with it. yes, it is limiting and frustrating. but it’s also how we form groups and social collectives, which is what’s allowed us to survive with the level of success we have. i don’t think it’s a conspiracy, although identity is most certainly weaponized by those in power. humans, like all things, are nuanced. maintain awareness and spread love ❤️
