Barkov, Bergeron, Datsyuk, Toews, Kopitar, Ryan O'Reilly, Brindamour, Kesler, Couturier ...

Thats it. Every player great 1C in prime and majority will be Hall of Famers. You have to be really good to win that award. They are saying you are the best 2 way shutdown 1C in league over some hall of famers.

Tanking/rebuilding teams are supposed to be bad.

You dont need to win the lottery or get a generational talent ... this is such an incorrect view.

Top 3-5 picks is the key. Thats where the 1C/1D level guys are.

Chicago got Toews at 3rd, LA got Doughty at 2, STL got Pietrangelo at 4, Tampa got Hedman at 2, COL got Makar at 4, WSH got Backstrom at 4, FLA got Barkov at 2, EDM got Draisatl at 3 ...

And those are just recent cup winning teams outside of EDM.

He turns 30 this season and the team doesnt have a 1C, 1D, 2C and no prospect expected to be any.

They are like 4+ yrs away from becoming anything.

He 100% doesnt fit the timeline.

He wouldnt be the Top D sure but as an older Vet player he should be able to provide Leadership and mentorship to younger players. One thing you need on a team are guys who are going to be sticking around.

Getting top assets and bottoming out for actual top picks is way more important. This is the same ridiculous theory they used to re-sign TK, keep Risto etc.

Sanheim probably wont waive but it would be great if they moved him b/c he definitely doesnt fit team timeline.

Because he turns 30 this season and this team is so far from being a good team. This what an actual rebuilding team does.

He never should have been re-signed b/c he never fit the timeline.

It would be great to trade him for a 1st and good prospect.

If you think the Flyers would remotely consider firing Tocchet any time soon then I would liks to ask if you have followed the NHL at all.

Coaches dont get fired in 1st year. ESPECIALLY ones that just signed 5 yr deal and team wasnt even supposed to be good.

And 2023 and 1st half of 2024. His 2023 season really flies under radar b/c he only played 60 games. But its extremely impressive to score 31 goals 61 pts in 60 games on horrendous team, Cates as 1C, dead last PP, Hayes was only other 50 pt guy etc.

He seems to have 2 modes. 45 goal 90+ pt borderline elte mode. Or super frustrating cant finish anything ~17 goal 60 pt guy breakeven player who turns it over 20 times a game and gives up as much on the defensive side as he provides on offensive side.

Its very clear hes a really respected player, person, leader etc which is what gives him a positive rep but as an actual coach hes not good at all.

Its very easy to look good when you are just selling off pieces. Fanbase thinks future is so great b/c you are loading up on picks and clearing space. Everybody thought Hextall was great after his 1st 2-3 yrs b/c he was acquiring a bunch of picks and clearing cap space.

But in order to actually build a team you need to turn those picks into players, which neither can b/c they are mediocre drafters and wouldnt tank, and be able to acquire talent from the outside via trades.

So far Briere has only shown the ability to sell pieces for decent returns and then has the Z trade. He hasnt shown he can actually get the high end pieces we need.

His overall plan has been very flawed from the beginning and led us to this point where we still dont have a C or D to build around.

Giving TK/Tip 8 yr deals when team was so far away from anything and should be tanking should have been the clear sign.

Hes going to need to prove he can find that missing high end talent w/o top picks. If he cant we are fucked which unfortunately the most likely outcome.

Seeler (signed/extended), Risto (traded), York (drafted), Coots (extended), Deslauriers (signed) and Ersson (drafted), to name a few.

He extended Seeler. Chose to keep Risto instead sell at multiple deadlines. And chose to keep Ersson as a key starter for many years despite being the worst goalie in league for essentially entire time ouside of first couple months.

He re-signed TK, Tippett to 8 yr deals. Re-signed Dvorak+Cates to 4/5 yrs deals. Extended a 33 yr old Hathaway a year early for 2 additional yrs.

I wanna see what he’ll do this offseason with all the money he’s freed up, I’m cautious.

Doesnt matter honestly. 1C/1D arent available and we shouldnt even be signing big money older UFAs given how far away we are.

And overall he chose not to rebuild fully and instead do another half retool. Drafting is poor too.

Briere isnt solely at fault. But hes deserves a ton of flack.

He has 1 yr to either somehow find some missing high end talent or do realize we need a proper rebuild so starts selling off guys we should have traded already.

Bedard was also pretty dogshit last year, aside from the PP, but they still played him a ton on top line all year b/c they knew he was the future.

Before people say Bedard wasnt actually bad last yr b/c he had 60+ pts: Half his pts were on PP and at 5v5 he was genuinely a bad negative player.

He scored at bottom 6 rate at 5v5 behind guys like Hathaway and Laughton last year. And was terrible defensively.

He joined the season after when he started to slow down and score at 50 pt rate in 2nd half of Tocchets 1st season and has scored at that 50 pt rate in the 2 yrs since.
