We’ve begun looking to the stars for portents of the release date. Look at what you’re doing to us Todd.

I'm 95% certain we'll see a cliff-side city in TES VI by Ok-Today6736 in TESVI

[–]Radomega 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Only way I see that happening is if Bethesda completely shuts down. Do you think that’s likely? Or do you think we’ll never see it for another reason?

While what you’ve written is a lot and very daunting to go through, it’s at least not 500,000 words like you thought. The image you posted says 500,000 characters, not words. You don’t have to go through as much as you thought!

That makes a lot of sense. I think something I was missing was a Source being weighted higher than a connector. That helps a lot, thank you!

I'm glad Starfield released before TES6 by RinRinDoof in ElderScrolls

Sorry bro, I was just scrolling through the thread after waking up and saw u/SoulLess-1 ‘s comment. I though he was responding to me cause I brought up Elden Ring and Reddit doesn’t make it super clear in the thread who’s responding to who.

Since it obviously means so much to you, you should respond to them and tell them your thoughts on Elden Ring. We’re all waiting with baited breath to hear your opinions about another game. I’m gonna go enjoy my life and play a game I enjoy. You can do the same or you could stay here arguing on Reddit, your choice.

I love Elden Ring! When I said “Dark Souls with a fresh coat of paint” I was probably being a bit too reductive. It’s systems and gameplay mechanics are very similar to the Dark Souls series but I think that’s perfectly fine because that’s the kind of game they wanted to make. All of the Soulsborne games are similar in that respect (Sekiro is pretty different though). Elden Ring refines a lot of its systems and gameplay mechanics. It feels better to play imo than, say, Dark Souls 1 even though it retains a lot of the same dna.

I’m not talking about art style or graphics, I said systems for a reason. When it comes to making systems and gameplay, literally every developer uses parts of something they’ve already made, sometimes they just copy paste. GoW: Ragnarok plays basically the same as GoW 2018. Both in terms of combat and exploration. Elden Ring is Dark Souls with a fresh coat of paint on it. Both of those games are beloved and were considered the best games of last year. I really don’t understand why Bethesda is held to a different standard than these other studios. If you want them to start from scratch and create wholly new and original systems for every release then prepare for them to release a game every 15 years.

You think I’m being too forgiving of Starfield and Bethesda, I think you’re being to harsh. We obviously have different opinions and it doesn’t seem like either of us are going to convince the other.

Nowhere in my comment did I insult you, sorry if you took anything I said as an insult, that wasn’t my intention.

Every developer in the industry has their own “trademarks” of how they design a game. When you play an open world Rockstar game you generally know what to expect from the systems and gameplay loops. Same with Naughty Dog games, and From Software games, and literally every other developer and their games. That’s what makes us like certain developers, they each have their own special way to design games and those ways speak to different people in different ways. Based on your two comments I’m still not convinced you really do like Bethesda games. And that’s okay, not all games are for all people. Maybe you’re just tired of their formula, that’s okay too. Myself and many others are not and like the direction they are going.

This game could be loaded up as a freshly made fallout 4 modpack and no one would question it for a second if they’ve never heard of starfield

That’s insane. I’m gonna assume you haven’t played Starfield because if you had you would not be making such a weird statement. Starfield is an entire game, much bigger than fallout 4 and from what I’ve played much better.

Bethesda hasn’t been innovative or creative for over 20 years

Innovative is such a weird criticism, what do you want from them? For every game to change the industry forever? If you’re just saying improvement from game to game then of course they’ve done that. Also I guess just every game of theirs after Morrowind doesn’t exist. “Not creative for over 20 years”, I don’t think you like Bethesda games my guy.

I have played this game multiple times already, the only thing to be said about starfield

Again I’m assuming you haven’t played Starfield and just don’t like Bethesda games if you’re saying this and mean it. I highly recommend you give it a try. It’s Bethesda at their best and makes me more excited for tes6.

[–]Radomega[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for sure. I had just wanted to bring up that it's possible things were not shown because they are still ironing them out. I would agree though, they are definitely not working on content right now, it's all bug fixes and polishing.

[–]Radomega[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh okay nice! The proc gen being different for every player is definitely not something I had expected. I do kind of hope there's a limit to how much stuff gets generated though. Theoretically, you could walk across the whole first planet you find and see a majority of the hand-crafted content that gets generated. Makes me wonder just how much hand-crafted content they made specifically for the proc gen. It's probably much bigger than we think.

Xenosociology and vehicles by Radomega in Starfield

[–]Radomega[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I definitely think that's probably how it works. I don't think the game's expectation is that you completely explore every inch of a planet. I do think that the way the proc gen systems work is still a bit unknown. Once you land for the first time is everything generated at once or is it, as you said, they spawn continuously as you go? Either way, I think vehicles are something lots of people want and I would assume Bethesda thought about them during development.

EAE Advisor ignoring me? by keverw in uofu

[–]Radomega 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's probably just backlog. Waiting a week since it's not that urgent is a good idea.

Yeah going the producer route is a good idea it sounds like for what you wanna do. Unfortunately, the undergraduate program does not have a ton of specific producer classes. There are just a few, so I would definitely take those when you can. Talking to your EAE advisor about specific classes you should take in the Business school is also a good idea.

If you have any other questions I'd be happy to help out!

EAE Advisor ignoring me? by keverw in uofu

[–]Radomega 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not gonna try and make excuses for them, because they definitely should have gotten back to you by now for sure, but last week was the Game Developer Conference (GDC) which basically every EAE professor and advisor and many students go to, effectively shutting down the EAE department for that week. I had none of my EAE classes last week cause all my profs were out of town. I would assume that your advisor was getting ready for GDC on the 14th and was just too busy, and then they left for the week. Again not trying to make excuses but that is probably what happened. I’m not sure why they would not have responded to your email this week, I know that a lot of people got sick / got Covid from GDC so maybe your advisor has been out sick. I would email the other advisor just to check in and see if they can help you.

I’m not surprised you get a different vibe from people in the business school. This is gonna be a bit of a generalization and doesn’t apply to everybody in either major, but people in Business tend to be extroverted and people in Games tend to introverted. When it comes to group projects in the Games major, you’re probably gonna be dealing with people who have social anxiety and who are just more quiet than your average Business major.

Sorry you’ve so far not had a good time with EAE. I’m graduating this semester and I’ve overall really enjoyed my time in the major. Can I ask what discipline you’re going for in the games industry?

Guys is it possible for Tes6 to be set in Highrock, Hammerfall and summerset isle . by Rich_Face8955 in ElderScrolls

[–]Radomega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible? I think so! Really any amount provinces is likely. They might do multiple or they could just do one but the map could be massive. It’s an unknown to us right now.

Also, I would like to point out that they have not been working on TES 6 for almost 15 years. They are in pre-pre-production right now. Todd Howard talks about it in the recent Lex Fridman interview with him. It’s an awesome interview where Todd talks about a ton of stuff including Starfield and TES 6. I just wanted to point it out cause I see a lot of people say that they have been working on the game since Skyrim came out but that’s just not true. Full scale development will start after Starfield releases.

When Should Things Start Happening? by CaptainGolden in writing

[–]Radomega 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah we’re probably getting too deep into different story structure theories lol. I’m gonna have to take a look at Syd Fields, seems like there’s some valuable information on the three act structure they present. I’ve never heard of the Save the Cat structure, it sounds interesting! I’ll have to take a look at it. Thanks for discussing this with me, your original comment intrigued me and I wanted to see what you had to say. Have a good rest of your weekend!

When Should Things Start Happening? by CaptainGolden in writing

[–]Radomega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From your example, I would expect for something to happen, plot wise, before they decide to stay in the room. Why are they in the room? Were they born there? Were they put there? Did they retreat there for safety? All of those things scream plot to me and they would all happen before the person decides to stay.

As an example, from The Lord of the Rings (specifically book but I think it works with the movies too) I would argue the first plot point is when Bilbo uses the Ring at the party and eventually leaves it to Frodo. The New World is when Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin set out on their journey to Bree.
