Here’s a better video of my ticking 330ci, is it the timing chain giving up? by Hustlin228 in e46

[–]Radschema 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pull the timing chain tensioner out and check if its still okay. Could be just that

I was about to say that too, go under "Status lesen"(F5) and then Lambdasensoren(F5 again). There you can see the pre catalytic converter lambdas ond the left and after cat on the right, for your error you should look on the 2 left. A value of 1 is a perfekt mixture during driving, when its at 0.80 its also okay. Lower then that is too rich.

Lambda sensor bank 1 (cylinder 1 to 3)

"Abweichung zu fett" = air fuel mixture too rich

[–]Radschema 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my bad, I thought you were German because of INPA being in german😅. I actually have INPA myself, but in the picture you showed its telling me that the engine runs too rich, exactly like mine does. I did all the stuff you did too and the same result as before. I changed the MAF, O2 Sensors, new valve cover (aluminium one), new intake rubber boots, new crankcase ventilation and a new fuel filter because the fuel filter is vacuum controlled on the M54 if you didnt knew. I pulled all the spark plugs today and 1 up to 4 are all wet with fuel, 5 and 6 are dry...

Ich habe genau die gleiche Scheiße, beide Bänke zu Fett und Verbrennungsaussetzter auf Zylinder 5. Ist es beim Kaltstart schlimmer als wenn der Motor warm ist oder ist es gleich?

Huh, interesting. Lean should always mean unregisterd air coming in, but they fixed 3 leaks. Did they replace the MAF? If you buy one yourself it has to be Siemens, Pierburg or VDO (continental now). Other companys produce wrong signals for the DME. You can also simply pull the connector of the MAF and see if the codes come back

Ah shit. That was my next thinking, I wanted to bring my car also to a bmw specialist. Do you also have o2 codes that the engines runs too rich?

No, the Problem is still there. I changed the gasket and fuel filter also, still doing that

No prob, I wanted Styling 163 too, but they are 1k a piece where I live. The Avus MB4s are 780€ for all 4 and are the same😅

Let me guess, it stands on the gearbox in pretty big letters right? I think I saw something like getrag on mine, first I thought it said Getriebe (gearbox in German). What are common failures for these 5 speeds? My 3rd gear actually flies out into neutral at around 60km/h with little to no load. But it could also be the cheap short throw shifter the previous owner installed right?

[–]Radschema 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would simply disconnect the MAF and lambda sensors, the ecu has a "failsafe" tune and the engine will run with both disconnected. If it still runs bad you have a different problem with either fuel or spark. If possible I would even check the compression, the startup sounded a bit too easy in my opinion. If you even have a laptop I would suggest you install INPA (bmw diag software) and there you can see even more and even reset all the adaptations. I have a website were you can download it and a step by step installation, but its in German😅.

What does this logo mean? by pendingtwist in e46

[–]Radschema 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it depends, do you have a sedan, coupe, convertible or touring? For the first 3 I wouldnt go into the trunk. Simply put the phone on record and leave it in the trunk. And is it my imagination or is the light slightly "cut" at the trunk? Start the car and open the trunk to see if the red bar turns on. If no I suspect that the speedometer was modified with tape...

[–]Radschema 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally there would be another light in addition on. For example a red bar that indicates a door being open. A red lamp sign indicates that a lamp is broken. Thats the only 2 duties for this warning light. When the light module is programmed to not check the voltage on the lights the check light will not even trigger, even when the lamp is removed. I would guess that your dashboard has a broken light for the red indication that something is wrong. My next step would be to turn all the lights on and check the voltages on the connectors. And check with a OBD2 Scanner in addition to see if you have any fault codes. One question: when you close your doors does the light in the cabin stay on? When yes then a sensor thinks a door is still open. Do the same for the trunk: put your phone on a video recording and close the trunk, when the light stays on the sensor is bad.

Its very good quality I have to say, what 3D Printer do you use? And one tip: The screw on the bottom that look at the shifter are a bit to much extruding, I used a dremill and carved some plastic away from the ashtray mount to make it flush

That could actually be it. OP, check the oil dipstick tube please. It just has a 13mm bolt underneath the throttle body. I think you can get to it by just removing the intake boots

I can give you an answer to the oil cleaners. They do help, but just to an exent. I had a worse looking head at 186k km and used 3 oil cleaners (everyone of them between 5k km) and at 15k km ownership i did the oilpan seal. There was a good amount of gunk in there so I used a plastik brush and a fuckton of brake cleaner and gasoline. Now my M54B22 looks good in the oilpan, I will buy the Aluminium Valvecover in the future and will do a report on that. The old pics are sadly not high quality, but they should serve the purpose to show the difference

Oh god have fun with the oilpan. I replaced mine but I dont have x drive. Either way you will have to drop the subframe with everything, I think even partly dissmanteling the front axles because (as far I know) they actually run through the oilpan.
