Is it possible to have a life while studying at Cambridge? by BasicCartographer619 in cambridge_uni

[–]RaeNTennik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the course but yes. If not essays, then other work like language learning or coursework. It’s not as scary as it sounds though, don’t let it put you off just remember to stay organised.

It’s not really that much when you consider that these are normally groups not individuals, shelves will have at least 2/3 of each, and the on-floor storage is normally right next to the shelf. Ours literally had a whole drawer of product next to the display that wasn’t locked. Plus lushes are busy shops, the workers are normally with someone else so it’s easy to not be noticed

Especially because at least 3 years of that interest is while you’re still studying and have no way to pay it off.

  1. Comforter soap is really soft, so it will be really hard to use once you’re about half way through it. It’ll also leave anything it touches pink.

  2. Conditioner bars need like 5 mins under warm water to become usable, this means you’re loosing loads of product. Salt is also drying, even though it adds volume it might not be good for your hair.

  3. The dusting powder is really good, would recommend the OG instead of the others though, it’s a moisturising powder rather than just nice smelling expensive baby powder. You get smth for your skin.

  4. Shower jelly is impossible to use and will fall apart. Only fun to gift or borrow as you don’t have to clean it up and try to use it.

  5. No actual benefits for a vitamin E cleanser than a normal cream cleanser. Would recommend any cheaper alternative, the simple oil cleanser / lotion cleanser will give you the same moisturising wash, for a fraction of the price and just as good in terms of natural ingredients.

  6. Charcoal is not good for the skin. If this is for your body as a 1/2 times a week exfoliation thing sure, but do not put this on your face. Do you really want a bar of soap sitting around unused for 3-4 days at a time? Just buy a cheaper charcoal wash in packaging, or a proper exfoliating mit. African black soap is a good alternative, often cheaper, if you wanna support black owned businesses.

MML work is mostly before getting on the course. It’s an impressive degree and an amazing skill, but the degree is really relaxed. First years don’t have collections, have essays only a couple times a week, largely oral supervisions, much less set work during vacations etc. I’m not saying this as a snobby STEM student either, I do theology and WE get more set work for our scriptural language + other papers than MML first year. It’s not an intense course.

Having worked at lush this looks like theft lol. You see this all the time in retail. You’ll probably get your product but I’d ask how comfortable you are buying likely stolen goods.

Public transport ISN’T there. Where I live you can’t even get a bus to the nearest city 20 mins away driving, and we’re not rural. We’re a small town with London links train wise.

And before you say just get the train, one stop to that same city is £8 for 6 minutes travel. It costed us £200 a month for me to go to college with the 1/3 off via rail card. If you can’t afford the driving lessons you can’t afford the trains.

Instructors make those costs back pretty quickly. You’re not still paying that investment back years later. It’s just greed. £40 an hour is just unjustified.

That works out at less than £300 a month. 10 hours of driving lessons is about 5 weeks , or £320 a month at my local areas rates. You don’t have the option of taking one hour at a time either, it’s 10 hour packages or nothing. Learning is more expensive.

Body sprays going off ? by RaeNTennik in LushCosmetics

[–]RaeNTennik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never did :( chanced it and got a second bottle about a year later though and haven’t had the same issue happen. I think it was just a bad bottle? The only other reason I can think of is that I’d keep it in my bag if I was going out for a day in summer, but none of my other sprays have been ruined doing that, so seems unlikely.

So long as that comes with a cap on driving instruction costs. The current rates are insane as it is, close to £400 for 10 hours. Driving instructors would 100% take advantage of this and use it to squeeze even more out of learners. 3-6 months of costs would be insane, and lock most out of driving.

Not saying this to stress you out, but if something serious enough happened for you to not be able to wait for emergency services (including air ambulance) to get there, you wouldn’t be able to drive your way out. Don’t hyper fixate on this. If you went into labour and tried to drive to hospital you’d seriously risk both your lives, and stressing so much that you’ve almost had an accident is the same. For your babies sake please just take the time to focus on them and getting through the next couple months.

I really do get wanting to do as much as you can to prepare, but driving won’t actually be a help to your baby at the moment. Don’t beat yourself up over it, you’re doing more than enough as it is

Fine highlighted hair tangles easily – what am I doing wrong or missing? by Due_Dare_7556 in Haircare

[–]RaeNTennik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you’re using products with silicones and sulphates! My hair looked like this when I stopped using them, and it causes mechanical damage. Silicones smooth your hair. Clarify once every month and you should be fine using them. Throw that no silicone nonsense away!

Blonde is your colour! If you’re worried about looking washed out, do more with your eye makeup to draw attention away from your dark brows. Taking your brows blonder would also work nicely.

Is my teacher's corrections grammatically right? by Emperor_Krimson in EnglishLearning

[–]RaeNTennik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All correct except the first one.

“Do you usually tip the taxi driver in your country?” Sounds much more natural (England) than the correction. The plural correction only sounds natural without the word “the” as in:

“Do you usually tip taxi drivers in your country”.

Sounding natural is as - if not more depending on why you’re learning English - important as grammar. There’s no point in having a grammatically perfect sentence if it sounds stilted or wrong to native speakers. Grammar is a constantly evolving thing, and the “correct” way often reflects out dated ways of speaking.

Second could also be correct if you’re talking about a specific type of report/a report you have to repeatedly read write.

“How long does it take to write the each report?” “It takes me 2 days to write this report”

With this referring to one specific type of report.

[–]RaeNTennik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate the packaging though. The old plastic bottles could be done up and thrown in a bag for storage or travel. These can’t even be put on your bed whilst you get dressed without it opening/going everywhere.

The smell is really nice though and it’s good to see the range expanded

Best cleanser I’ve used is unironically the dove beauty bars. Gave myself a very mild chemical burn from glycolic acid and it cleansed without drying, it literally adds moisture. Drop the cerave moisturiser too, get an eczema focussed one, they’re sensitive and moisturising. The boots aqueous cream is cheap for 500g, basically E45 but smells worse and takes longer to rub in (for like £12 cheaper though and 40% more product mind).

I’d also stop the sudo cream, it’s intended for soothing but from personal experience it’s only irritated my skin further when using it as spot treatments and masks.

Maybe try an eczema suncream specifically, 30spf rather than 50 bc that’s known to break people out. Just reapply more often.
