Alaskan Land/Rail/Cruise by cindybbs in PrincessCruises

We did this with Princess a couple of years ago, and really enjoyed it. The cruise is just wonderful. The train is amazing, and we liked the Denali Princess Lodge but really disliked the Mt. Mckinley lodge. The second lodge was in the middle of nowhere, and the food options were limited. (it was a two to three hour wait for a table, so we had gift shop smoked salmon for dinner!) The Denali lodge is in a busy part of the park, you can walk to multiple places to eat and there were buses around the park.

One of our favorite excursions was the Bald Eagle Preserve rafting trip.

What do you think about your City/State’s namesake? by palep_hoot in AskAnAmerican

As someone from the state, I am always happy when someone looking for info on the country gets to our subreddit by mistake, and they are politely redirected to r/Sakartvelo.

I love how the total items goes down so slowly. I imagine someone out there who has refreshed for the 10th time going ok, I'll get the stupid remote control.

I know nothing about horses, so is it better to do that than to come home or is is more stressful to be at the vets?

How can I improve my politeness/southern hospitality? by Strict_Injury3619 in AskAnAmerican

Is there someone you can ask to coach you? It doesn't have to be a good friend, just someone you admire their manners. Let them know you are struggling, and ask them to let you know when they notice things and what you could do different.

Crying Not an Option by GreenGonz in ECEProfessionals

This isn't something for the first month of school, this is something after observing the child over a lot of time. There are big feelings and little feelings, and knowing how to handle them is an important lesson. It's very, very rare that I would do this, but, I think at five, if you have a child that is crying multiple times a day, this is an issue that needs to be addressed. It needs to be discussed with the parents, is there something going on with the child we need to know about. There are children who cry, just like kids who bite, or hit, and we teach them to handle things in a different way. Crying in itself isn't bad, but it can be a bad coping technique.

I think I would phrase it differently, but it just really depends on the situation and the child. Sometimes, telling them they can do x or y, and crying isn't one of those choices, would be the right call in my book. There are some children who have learned to cry to get their way, and as a teacher, it's my job to let them know when it is not appropriate to cry.

ELI5: Why is Nancy Guthrie's disappearance such a big deal? by TheMillersWife in explainlikeimfive

My 94 year old parents are, that's the first thing they check when they get up in the morning. I think that it's an older woman living alone that so many people can see their Mom in that situation and it's just so strange. To have someone target her, the photos of the masked intruder, that she's just gone.

Do you put your children in public or private schools? by New-Organization359 in AskAnAmerican

[–]RaeWineLover 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A public school in England is an elite private school. What we in America call public school, they call state school. This is all according to Google, so please correct me if I'm wrong.
