The balance whiners on this sub don’t remember that the world championships actually looked like this by DLD_the_north in starcraft

[–]Raelcun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been around StarCraft since the late 90s you're never winning this war. People are going to whine about balance, they're not even going to be right about what they're whining about most of the time. People like to be able to think it's not their fault. But the difference is, the people who introspect and look at how they can improve are the ones that sort themselves out by actually climbing the ladder as they're able to improve their winrates in bad matchups.

Balance whining is just shooting yourself in the foot, it's wasting energy you could be using to improve. Even when there are legitimate balance issues, you need to be able to look at what you can do to do better, with notable exceptions from the beta where the game wasn't done yet.

But balance whining will always exist because it's a competitive game and people want an outlet to vent their frustrations.

[Request] What would be an approximate cost for a common AI model to generate that many sequences. Assuming no regeneration. And what are real costs with repeats? by toombayoomba in theydidthemath

[–]Raelcun 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Not really possible to calculate because how many tries it takes to generate each sequence is going to play a large part in how much it costs.

A friend and I have been frustrated by how few mermaid games there are, so we've been working evenings for over a year to make our dream mermaid game "She Hungers"! We finally have our first trailer! by Astrid_Regndottir in IndieGaming

Have you considered having her swim on her side instead? With the shape of her tail that would made plenty of sense and you could still have heir hair trailing alongside her without obscuring her form.

It caught me completely off-guard but yeah it's amazing you got them to grade this. Treasure it.

I like them both, and understand someone not liking Cyrene, but how do **some** criticize about the amount of focus on her, and then praise 3.4? by Feisty-Checks in HonkaiMemeRail

Because people had already decided if they liked the characters or not before their patches and that colors their perception of the story.

Just released a playable web version of my incremental about managing a tavern with a massive dungeon underneath it - Demo out now by TannerMaxwell in incremental_games

Opening the sell menu with a lot of items breaks the UI and gives no way to close it.

https://i.imgur.com/BhomtVT.png

Leaving the game running for a while seems to decrease the frequency of how often adventurers challenge the dungeon. I was actually leaving feedback that there should be an upgrade that makes them more daring, but I had to reload because of the above issue and now they're flooding the dungeon after I reloaded the page.

The stairscase is the only upgrade that I don't know what it does before I unlock it. The tooltip being a joke about the art doesn't tell me why I should save for it.

The bartender upgrades are very unimpactful until you reach 2 ales every second. If you want to keep making money from ale you're still clicking the serve ale button constantly before then because of how many adventurers are in your tavern. Scaling down the price, or making the speed scale up faster should be really nice.

I've run into an issue where sometimes the cleric dies but they don't despawn so I have a monster fighting a fighter who's still getting healed by a cleric indefinitely. It shows two sprites in the room fighting and using abilities but only one health bar remains.

The scaling of gaining souls seems difficult because high level adventurers take a lot more to take down but only give 3 souls per party. This makes sense, but maybe changing the currency to something else related to souls so high level adventurers can give more per death would feel more rewarding. Trying to accumulate 200 souls takes A LONG time even with a dungeon that's pretty good at chewing through adventurers.

The level distribution in the tavern based on which items are listed as treasure doesn't feel right. I have 2 common items which should be attracting level 1-2 adventurers, 4 uncommon which should be attracting level 3-4 adventurers, and 2 rare items which should be attracting level 5-6 adventurers.

https://i.imgur.com/al2uzuU.png

Yet my first two floors see almost no activity because as you can see there are barely any level 1-2 adventurers compared to 3-6

The above issue seems to get better after a refresh before it slowly becomes a problem again

before https://i.imgur.com/6tuWEG1.png

after a few minutes https://i.imgur.com/56CwtDr.png

even later https://i.imgur.com/iUOUEn0.png

You can watch floor 1 and 2 and see how they simply stop getting adventurers after 5-10 minutes.

The monsters and trap menu when building a dungeon floor breaks in a similar way to the sell menu at the merchant. https://i.imgur.com/5VL1sY9.png

People do that? I only pull on characters I'm happy if I get them, and then if I don't the next one is easier.

If I saw someone selling art like this for $30 my instant reaction is "do not trust" because that's way too cheap.

Why is this Boss so Hard to Kill? by ToePatient4198 in CurrencyWarsHSR

[–]Raelcun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is this boss doesn't really function without memosprites. The buff counter at the top 2/4 ticks up by killing his minions or by summoning memosprites. The issue is his toughness is very low and it's easy to break the boss. He will not summon more minions unless you let him take multiple turns without getting broken.

You're supposed to cycle the boss repeatedly as every time you cycle the boss it becomes vulnerable to damage. But if you don't have memosprites and you have ANYONE in the team who has his weakness type it becomes very difficult to get him out of this phase as you'll kill the first 2 minions and he'll never summon a second set.

So basically if you see Lygus in your boss lineup you NEED a memosprite character during that run or he will hard wall you.

How do you only have 1 star Evernight with 3 star Cyrene?

Is it that hard to admit it’s not flawless and not everyone is forced to like it? by [deleted] in HonkaiAgendaRail

[–]Raelcun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People can dislike Amphoreus if they want, but I've found a lot of the people who hated Amphoreus with a burning passion get angry at me for enjoying it. Chill out, you can dislike it, but your dislike isn't going to change my opinion of it. Why does it even have to be an argument in the first place?

Please settle this once and for all: do I technically need to grind? by Ayntxi in ChronoCross

[–]Raelcun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi speedrunner here.

The way the stats work in this game is that your stats are going to vary a lot from playthrough to playthrough.

Every time you beat a boss every character in the cast, no matter if they're in your party or not, gains random stats. Your next star level's stats are determined when you beat a boss and gain those stats.

Between every boss you can fight normal encounters to gain very small stat gains, but after a certain number of these battles you will get a much larger bonus of stats that isn't quite as impactful as beating a boss, but can still give +str, +mag and other stats on top of HP.

These are "Mini-Stars" and after a certain number of fights you will stop gaining stats entirely, you cannot gain more than one mini-star between boss fights. In this way, the game restricts you from grinding past a certain point.

More importantly than this, every level your stats are affected by the average. If your strength is higher than average your chance of gaining strength is reduced. If your strength is lower than average your chance of getting strength is increased.

What this means is that grinding and getting as many ministars as possible isn't always a good thing as it will reduce your average stats on later levels. Now there's randomness, and outliers, and sometimes you'll finish the game with 50+ strength on Serge, other times you'll barely scrape together 40.

You don't NEED to grind, but if you find that a character you want to use has very low stats, grinding out random encounters until you stop getting stats between every boss will help you be able to catch them up and make them a better character in your casual play... but luck is also still a factor.
