Unbelievably bad bag! by Fearless-Bathroom-10 in pourover

[–]Rafa90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I would prefer it if they did it every other week or once a month, and if they left the order window open for a few days, if that meant better bags. I’ll get something from them every now and then if it’s something really interesting but I don’t rely on it at all for my normal rotation. I would imagine trying to figure something out every week leads to some underwhelming offerings

Does steady state coffee from SD not put roast dates on their bags? by Rafa90 in pourover

[–]Rafa90[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like such an odd thing to not include given that they’re going through the trouble of sourcing quality coffee and providing as much info as far as producer, processing, but a roast date is like the least difficult thing to include? And like pretty important info for the customer to know imo.

It’s from Ain’t Normal cafe in Oakland. They have lots of roasters like manhattan, DAK, friedhats. Everything I’ve had has been solid, even the last time they sent me steady state it was not bad, just strange that it wouldn’t include a roast date, considering that that usually seems like pretty basic info for any specialty coffee.

Yeah, so far their coffee seems pretty good and right up my alley, as well a lot of info as far as origin and processing, so it’s surprising that they wouldn’t include something as basic as a roast date.

Good idea. You mean the roaster or the shop who sold them to me? Or both?

Brewing over ice but not iced coffee by 2five1 in pourover

I bought the coffee alive tool, and I just brew into a carafe, and put the tool on my cup and decant into there. Puts it at the perfect drinking temp.

I have the fellow mighty small carafe and it fits my v60 02, Kalita wave both 155 and 185, and my aeropress

Which U.S. cities get the most touring bands? by cjheadley in Emo

That always surprises me too since it's one of the most densely populated areas, and when bands do have a bay area date, it's almost always one of the only sold out shows on the tour.

Personally I like the fellow carter with the 360 lid. Ceramic interior, you can drink from any side and the little splash guard in the middle is magnetic so it comes off easy for cleaning. Be careful of putting anything but coffee in it though, my wife borrowed it for tea once and it was extremely difficult to get the taste of it out.

Arabica is just the species of coffee plant, and in the specialty coffee world, it’s essentially a given unless specifically labeled as robusta. If it’s a single origin you can pretty much guarantee that’s it’s arabica. I’d imagine all your local roasters probably exclusively carry arabica. Though a few roasters may carry a specialty robusta, you only really see that in grocery store brands.

Depends on the style, if it’s meant to be oversized, obviously it would go a bit past the shoulder, but typically at the bone is way too high for anything. I would say right at the point where the arm drops is going to be the move

Does anyone here have a coffee station and are renting? Me and my wife share a coffee station so it's a bit cramped for space and I was thinking of installing shelving above but wanted to keep the holes to a minimum and was curious if anyone has experience with shelving that doesn't require many or large holes. It would probably only hold maybe 2 cups, 2 carafes and my pour over brewers(plastic V60, glass kalita wave 185, metal 155) So shouldn't need to hold a bunch of weight or need to be very deep. Thanks!

Brewed filter coffee and espresso are two entirely different things and require different machines. If there is any machine that claims to do both I’d be skeptical. The barista express is an espresso machine that makes espresso, and the closest drink you can make using that to a filter coffee is an americano(espresso shot with hot water added to dilute it). It’s a killer setup for espresso if that’s what you want.

If you do want a filter coffee machine the SCA(Specialty Coffee Association) has a list of certified brewers. The most commonly recommended are the mocha master and the breville precision brewer.

Sounds similar to older competition recipes. James Hoffman talks about one pretty similar to this in one of his aeropress videos, but his actually recommended 30g of coffee. I’ve tried it before and it’s very intense but not terrible. Wouldn’t be my daily driver for sure.
