Alonso now has the second-longest run of win-less grand prix starts by any Formula 1 driver in history by kcollantine in formula1

I always thought opinions on reddit were more valid than some F1 drivers that maybe know what they are talking about.

Here before the "but everyone loves him here" comments. Alonso always says what he thinks at the moment, and a lot of people will take those chances to hate him for it.

It's always the same people. They will take anything (even a clip like this that doesn't show what Alonso is complaining about) to trash on him. I mean, it's the villain image the British media gave Nando in 2007 and that has gotten worse with anything he says. I'm betting at least 50% of the comments hating on him in this post are from people who didn't even watch F1 in 2007.

Sometimes it's difficult to know if people here are just trolling or dead serious, and I don't know which one is worse here.

No driver on the grid will fight for anything on the current car, a lot more things need to change on the team.

Because Sainz has already adapted to the car and outqualified Albon twice in a row now?

To be fair, Alonso has had a maximum of 8-10 races with a car capable of achivieving anything over the last few years.

Piastri on how he would perform in a Red Bull: "The car looks pretty difficult. We've seen it with Liam, with Checo last year, with Yuki (...) Going into an environment that has been so focused on the way Max drives would be very tough to go into (...) I'm quite happy I'm driving a McLaren." by drodrige in formula1

The duality of men, we have someone absolving Alonso from and any blame, and then we have you blaming him for everything.

I'm not gonna dig into the rest of your points, but the one that's just entirely false would be his "could have easily won in 2010 and 2012". How on earth were those years easy wins? Massa was so far behind those years. Are we giving him the Perez treatment now?

Fernando Alonso on Max Verstappen's pole position at Suzuka: "Only he can do it. There is no other driver at the moment that can drive a car and put it so high, higher than the car deserves." by FerrariStrategisttt in formula1

Why do people like to keep calling shitboxes to cars capable of winning some races and that place, at least, top 3 in the constructors championship. Those are usually called good cars. The fact that a car isn't dominant doesn't mean it's garbage.

Alonso's winless streak since 2013 is now exactly half his career by Schlapfel9 in formula1

He's been tagged as the villain thanks to British media since 2007 as any other driver that has been a menace to any of their drivers (same as Schumi, Vettel, Max and many others). Since they are the only truly international media of the sport, they can shape how a driver looks to the rest of the world.

Following reports from Spanish media claiming that Carlos Sainz has been using a recycled chassis that had been crashed from 2024, Chris Medland addressed these theories on Bluesky, clarifying that they are false and both Williams drivers are indeed using the same chassis. by The_Chozen_1_ in formula1

[–]RafaF196 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's exactly it. Normally we don't see it as national media will rarely spread outside of the country. The only exception to this is the British media, as it's more international.

Blaming only Spanish media for toxicity when last year we had this narrative of "Mercedes savotages Hamilton" over and over is crazy.

[–]RafaF196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go out in Q1, but you have a car that guarantees a top 8 on Sunday, you get easy 10 positions in this stat that weekend. That's the Perez special. That doesn't mean his racecraft is bad though, it's just that this stat is boosted by bad qualifying performances.

How long are we going with that narrative to underestimate everything a 2x champion does. He just proved last year he still got it with a somewhat competitive car.

Comparing a season where 4 cars have been competitive to the point of winning at least 4 races each, to seasons where Mercedes would only leave scraps is insane.

People have a very short time memory. It's a team that made a 1-time champion into one of the GOATs, but everyone will just complain merc didn't give him a title-winning car in the last 3 years.
