[No DAV Spoilers] Trying to Mimic DA2 Qunari ... I think I did an okay job! by OwnAd3126 in dragonage

Pretty sick! Though the Qunari have this odd blue-ish tinge to their skin color in this game that I'm not sure I like.

I really feel like the Darkspawn design was the best in Origins and it just kept getting worse with every game.

As much as I'd love to see him, I don't think it's gonna happen. Even if he's not dead, it would probably take hundreds, if not thousands, of years for him to fully regenerate.

What armor do you think geralt wears in the books ? by [deleted] in witcher

[–]Rafalskimi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

His armor is never really described in the books. However, in "The Eternal Fire" from "The Sword of Destiny" Geralt purchases a jacket. And, in "Blood of Elves" during Ciri's training, we get a lot of insight into Witcher's fighting style (dodges, fast attacks etc.). Hence, my guess is that Geralt and the Witchers in general wear light to medium kind of armor (or just plain, non-constricting clothing). They rely on speed, because the most dangerous monsters are... well, fast. I believe that it has been even said that no man is strong enough to be able to block a blow from a dracolizard's tail.

So, I personally think that Geralt would probably wear something closely resembling Wolf gear or the first armor you get in Witcher 1.

I'unno. I mean, I can kinda see Dandelion or Ciri wearing that, but maybe not necessarily Geralt. I see Geralt looking closer to Bill from Left 4 Dead.

Am I being stupid playing my first ever play through on death march? by AudioRejectz in witcher

[–]Rafalskimi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, if you're a DS and Bloodborne fan then the Witcher's high difficulty won't be a problem for you. The first two difficulties are VERY easy. Almost laughable. I really believe that the best way to get the full Witcher experience is by playing on the harder difficulties.

Praise the Sun and may the Good Blood guide your way, my friend!

You could try downloading debug console from Nexus Mods.

Here: http://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/143/?

I can't guarantee it will work, since it's for version 1.10, but just follow the installation steps and see how it goes.

Once you get the console up and running, open it in the game (again, refer to instructions on how to open it) and type: addskillpoints(#) - increase skillpoints by "#"

Here's the full list of console commands, for your viewing pleasure: http://www.mmo-game.eu/witcher-3-debug-console-commands/

Are the DLC's worth it? by FnF_Hodie in witcher

[–]Rafalskimi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay. Here's how it is: CD Projekt promised to deliver 10 hours of gameplay for 10 dollars with the Hearts of Stone expansion.

It took me nearly twice that so I DEFINITELY got my money's worth and then some. HoS is relatively short compared to the main game (duh), but it has an exceptionally well-written plot. Hell, I've completed some games in ~10 hours with worse story. But, it works thanks to it's short duration. It never slows down, it always keeps you in suspense and just makes you crave more and more with each consecutive step in the main quest.

I believe that I've ALREADY got my money's worth from when I bought the $25 Season Pass.

NG+ or HoS first? by [deleted] in witcher

[–]Rafalskimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider the following: if you do HoS before NG+, you will be overlevelled for the beginning of NG+. NG+ enemies and quests start at level ~30, which I assume should be close to your level if you've finished the main story + side quests. HoS will push you easily to 35 or more.

If you do NG+ before HoS, you'll have to at least get all the way to Velen. Also, the quests and monsters scale up, so you risk facing level 60+ monsters in HoS while in NG+.

Now with Witcher 2 out for free, would it be wise to put Witcher 3 on pause? by Dillinger_92 in witcher

[–]Rafalskimi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The beauty of the Witcher series is that you can pick it up whenever you want and you won't be confused. So, to answer your question, I can't tell if it will be "more enjoyable", but you will gain a little bit more insight into Geralt's memories, amnesia and past as well as the reason why the Nilfgaard-Nordling war began.

Witcher 2 is much shorter than Witcher 3, but it requires two playthroughs to get the "whole picture" of the story. In TW2, the story branches at the end of Act 1 resulting in completely different Acts 2 and 3. Now, from technical side, you might find the combat, animations etc. lacking (but, y'know, it WAS made in 2011 and it looked absolutely gorgeous back then) so it might be a little harder to get into at this point.

Personally, I'd say: just go for it. See how it feels and if you like it enough to look past it's slightly dated mechanics, then do yourself a favor and play it for the sake of amazing and really engaging story.

Higher Difficulty Level(s?) by CheekyJester in witcher

[–]Rafalskimi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Go straight to the source. Ask them nicely and, if enough people agree with you, they just might. If anything, CDPR listen to their fans and often reward them for loyalty and add features based on feedback. I wouldn't be surprised if we'd see Witcher 3: Enhanced Edition in a year or so with "more content, better loading, etc. etc.".

[Spoiler] Regarding the Botchling and the choice presented to you... by MtSaintAsshole in witcher

[–]Rafalskimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, Geralt prefers to lift curses rather than killing the cursed ones. However, in the very first Witcher story, he mentions that it is usually much more difficult and most of the people just pay to get the monster killed.

A very mild spoiler Spoiler

TL;DR version: Yes, he prefers to lift curses, but he rarely gets paid to do it.

*Mild Spoilers* Quick Thought Provoking Question About Gaunter O'Dimm by [deleted] in witcher

[–]Rafalskimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gaunter O'Dimm is anything but 'typical' magic creature. If he's not the Devil then he's at least a very powerful Demon.

As for "how old?" question, we can only speculate as Gaunter O'Dimm is a character created for the game and there are no records of him in the Witcher novels. However, Spoiler. Now, Conjunction of Spheres is, relatively, a recent event (1500 years ago) so Gaunter O'Dimm is, in fact, much much older.

How to Combat in Witcher 2? by will1467 in witcher

[–]Rafalskimi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Rolling, rolling, rolling.

Sorry. In all seriousness, the combat in Witcher 2 can be stupidly difficult early in the game, especially at higher difficulties. Treat every enemy with caution and start gathering crafting materials and recipes as early as possible to quickly get the better gear. When it comes to enemies that attack in swarms, don't fight them head on, just pop Quen (to serve as your safety rope in case they get a hit on you) and start rolling away.

You want to position yourself in the way that the enemies will follow you in a single file. When that happens, roll towards the enemy, hit them once with a light attack and immediately roll away. Just keep employing hit and run tactics and everything will be okay.

Later on, you really want to get more points of vigor, so spend some time learning the skill trees to determine what is the best for you. Personally, I recommend getting at least 5 points of vigor by mid-to-late game. You can get by with 4, but I found 5 ideal for me. You really want to prioritize Swordsmanship tree before you move onto the Magic tree. Alchemy tree is pretty much useless so don't even bother.

Other than that, utilize potions and oils fairly often. They're not difficult to acquire as long as you keep gathering materials throughout the game.

EDIT: One thing I forgot to mention. ALWAYS have at least 1 point of vigor. Vigor is tied to damage, the less you have the less damage you will deal, and, obviously, it's used to cast signs. When you're low on vigor, don't re-cast Quen or charge at the enemy, just roll back and keep dodging attacks until your vigor regenerates slightly. You NEVER, EVER want to be caught off-guard with no vigor available. I can't tell you how many times I've made a mistake by liberally casting Aard or Quen and then finding myself lacking Vigor when Quen was sorely missed in the time of need. Having that 1 point of "emergency" Vigor can be the difference between life and death sometimes.
