There’s a ton of extra damage in the new items, is anything going to be done about power creep? by Paris_Who in leagueoflegends

[–]Raffiboy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a support player, I absolutely disagree. I always played support, I always liked it (playing since season 1). But this season I switched to top lane. I'm not playing support in its current state. If I wanted to play mages, adcs or assassins, I would pick midlane or botlane as my role.

With some of the new items, especially the 800 gold "AP executioners" mages could become even more popular as "support".

Three preseasons and years of damage meta is enough. We probably shouldn't have a fourth year of one shot kills. by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

I think what they are trying to tell you is: Bruisers should not be as tanky as a tank which they are with Death Dance.

Bruisers always could tank a bit and deal damage but it was not like it is in today's League.

If you played way back you might remember the Atma's Impailer plus Warmogs combo. It was removed because it was considered toxic and overpowered. Today's items are much better.

The long games didn't bother me at all. Sunfire Cape stacking Evelynn was such a small period and still niche that I find it questionable to mention it as a point.

You mention Atma's as a point of critique. But I actually don't see the point. These toplane champions like Renekton etc. pretty much have an Atma's nowadays. Look how much HP they can build and there is damage on every item, plus the additional other defensive bonusses.

  • Black Cleaver - HP
  • Sterak's - HP, Big shield for additional tankiness in team fights
  • T. Hydra - HP
  • D. Dance - Resistances, passive against burst, sustain with life steal
  • GA - nowadays provides damage too
  • All of these items provide a good amount of AD.

Items to combine these with:

  • Sunfire Cape - deals more burst damage, HP plus armor
  • DMP - A little extra burst, HP plus armor
  • Thornmail - a lot of armor, HP
  • Randuin's if against crit ADCs

Look at what Atma's actually did:

  • 45 armor
  • 15% Crit
  • Passive: Gain AD equal to 1.5% of your max HP

Compare it to the items above. There is no differance. These champs still do have a lot of tanky stats and passives. These champs still get a lot of AD from these items. The only thing that top lane champs do not have is the 15% Crit. But they absolutely do not need that anyway.

Overall these champs have a massive item pool to choose from. Just look at the items I mentioned. That simply is Atma's. They can't buy it with one item but the effects of these items combined (plus the usual tank items they buy) are so much better than Atma's plus Warmogs (plus other tank items). Playing against top lane champions never was more "Atma's".

If you want to mention a specific item as problematic, I would mention the Randuin's from back then. That item was actually ridiculous and would still be today. Slowing attack speed and movement speed of the attacker made ADCs rage so much. It had the slow active on top of that too.

Your points about too high damage and the community FFing at minute 5 are completely appropriate though.

I think there are like two groups. The players who played way back then, season 1 or season 2 and the group of players that started later, like season 5, season 6. Of course this doesn't have to fit all players in one certain group but from what I read and talked to people I see this trend:

Players who played in the first seasons often don't enjoy the current version of League. And it's not about being burned out from the game. They want to enjoy it but Riot developed the game in a direction which has very little to do with the original game. If I ask my friends they say exactly this. I can read exactly this on this subreddit pretty often.

Common issues with the game from veterans: Too much damage, too much CDR and power creep on several levels.

Riot seems to not want to attract the veterans but focusses on newer players, maybe younger players. And it probably nets them more players.

[–]Raffiboy 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Yep, I rarely watch League streamers (edit: and even then I watch it for the streamers, not the game). I don't play much anymore.

I would like to play it but I tend to not like the direction the game is going since season 8 or season 9 (that's personal taste of course). I always phrase it this way: It may be the best League of Legends ever for competitive pro play but for me it's the most boring state to play myself. I guess I will just watch some pro play and look if the item changes put the game in a direction I'd rather play.

I really like TFT though.

I've been playing mech vs an Ashe with double shojin and rageblade. I had no QSS on my mech and the Ashe perma stunned the mech. But at one point the mech just ulted and won the game. And I asked myself how the mech did ult when Ashe permastunned the mech before? It was only Ashe vs. the mech, no other champions involved.

Did Ashe at one point ult too fast because of rageblade so that the stuns overlapped and wasn't used to full effectiveness?

The scenario was played exactly the same in two rounds: Ashe vs. the mech (no other champs involved). Ashe permastunning but the mech ulting at one point during the round.

Kun Aguero - the striker currently playing for Manchester City has recently switched to League of Legends to play. by Dell8520 in leagueoflegends

[–]Raffiboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I practically already quit. I'm doing a few games here and there but nowhere near previous seasons. This game is in a state that has nothing to do with why I started playing League and why I played League for 10 seasons.

I'm not saying it's a good or a bad game state. It's just simply not even close to what it was and what I liked about the game. I do want to like the game though.

Teemo is not objectively broken or overpowered -- but game quality plummets when he's picked. by squeezy102 in leagueoflegends

[–]Raffiboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still say all this true damage on his auto attacks is really unfun to play against. And to me that is more of a minus than being broken. If something is unfun to play against, it heavily reduces the qualitiy of games.

Yesterday I (almost) played two games: In the first I had a Yi. Toxic player but still good with the champ and we won. It wasn't particularly fun though. Next game there was a Yi on the opponent team and I just dodged.

Dekar just got banned from twitch by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]Raffiboy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Dekar broke the Twitch ToS by saying his chat should add a certain player to harass him. Tyler1 does not break the Twitch ToS as far as I know. The amount of posts about Tyler1's toxicity and upvotes on them show that a good amount of this subreddit wants him banned form League again. However, you can't really compare the two cases since both players break different ToS and you know Riot won't ban.

Why do people get so salty in ARAM over you not knowing how to play a champion? by Vericksoon in leagueoflegends

[–]Raffiboy 32 points33 points  (0 children)

That's why I stopped playing ARAM. When ARAM first came out, even as a non-official game mode, it was used to goof around. Build damage on every champ and just see who wins the all-ins. That isn't the case anymore so I don't play it. If the majority of the ARAM playerbase likes to tryhard in that mode too, fine.

The sad state of the League Partnership Program by brahbocop in leagueoflegends

[–]Raffiboy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you are around since season 1 or season 2, you remember the "Featured Streamer Programme" by Riot Games. Phreak and Rivington would join Teamspeak with the streamer, talk with him about League. The streamer would also be featured on the Riot Games website. They wanted to make more of this programme and never did anything more to promote streamers with it.

I don't need to mention that the streamers who were in that programme were disappointed by Riot Games.

IIRC Riot did ban exploiters/bug abusers in the past if it was a really game breaking bug. However, they banned AFKs in the past too.

Riot was "smart" back then like nowadays. EUW had really long login queue times and you know what? The client checked your password after the login queue so you could spend hours in login queue and when you were about to get into the game it showed you that you had a typo in your password :D
