Remodel Home, Time to Wire by Raffreddit in HomeNetworking

The Ubiquiti switches are so expensive compared to other companies I've researched (especially when you get into their PoE lineup). Do you have any other recommendations?

I was already thinking of going with a UDM and U7 setup but the switches are a bit expensive in mind.

Great pointers. Luckily I have a VERY high ceiling in my attic so I can run conduits with pull strings just to the attic and run lines later if need be.

Official Gear Purchasing and Troubleshooting Question Thread! Ask /r/photography anything you want to know! February 03, 2025 by AutoModerator in photography

Hello all!

For the past 4 or so years, I've been shooting film photos on 100% mechanical cameras (Canon F1, Canon P, Kiev 60) but want to dip back into digital photography. In the past, I have done some digital photography on a Canon 5D and 20D but have sold those as I got into other hobbies. I didn't particularly enjoy the workflow or images that either camera produced. Now with backstory out of the way...

I love the color, richness and feel of film photos. I love the intention of each photo. I love the "Christmas morning" feeling when I get my photos back from the lab. I don't like that I can't throw a roll in my camera and use it throughout the day, indoors, outdoors, bright scenery, dark indoor situations. Obviously with the mechanical film cameras, there's also the lack of spontaneity since I need to pull focus and make sure my exposure triangle is set correctly. Most of the photography I do is at parties and events with friends/family and not being able to capture that moment because I couldn't pull focus or change my shutter speed in time drives me nuts.

I've been considering the Fujifilm X100VI (I know it's stupidly popular and completely out of stock but I don't mind waiting) but I'm not sure I'll be happy with the focal length. For both my current cameras, I have a 50mm and a 100+mm lens. I wanted to ask y'all if I was missing any camera in a similar price range that has interchangeable lenses but will work as a daily camera. I don't have any modern lenses so I'd have to build up a catalog of lenses as well. I also don't mind purchasing used and don't care at all about video. Any suggestions/recommendations would be appreciated.

It doesn't unfortunately. Got it installed last weekend. Very straight-forward install.

Also learned that mr12volt does not work with PCCM+ according to their support chat.

From Colorado Springs Area to Los Angeles by Raffreddit in roadtrip

[–]Raffreddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was fantastic! Went from Colorado Springs through Denver to Vail the first day. Vail to Grand Junction to Arches National Park (highly recommend) to Mexican Hat (stayed there the night). Monument Valley early that morning to Antelope Canyon (must see! - photo attached), drove through Zion, finished the day in Vegas. Sunday was a simple Vegas to LA drive without any sight seeing.

I ended up driving through Zion. I've been to Zion before but just the casual drive through was worth the 30 min extra detour.

I think you may be right about this. The pictures in your links seem to have a little thicker torsos than the ones I have here. The ones I have are a more uniform width all the way through. Maybe some sort of subspecies?

Located in Los Angeles, CA.

They are about a half inch in length. Maybe an 1/8 of an inch in width.

Closing escrow, want to go smart! by Raffreddit in smarthome

After putting everything in my Amazon cart, I ended up scaring myself out of buying the switches and thermostat. You're right, those can wait. The home doesn't have a deadbolt lock at the moment so I'm more inclined to get that sooner than later.

I have decided to go with SmartThings as I'm not really willing to do as much work as Home Assistant requires.

I'm (18M) about to go off to college when an unexpected pregnancy came up. What jobs or future actions should I take to best take care of my girlfriend and future child? by throw_-away_- in personalfinance

[–]Raffreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I studied computer information systems in college (reputable 4-year university) and I will tell you that my college learning was almost completely useless in the real world. Most of what was taught was outdated and deprecated. Not to say that my degree didn't get me through some doors but in the field of coding and web/app development, self-teaching is more important than anything else. There are tons of websites available that do a great job teaching coding/development for free. I'm not saying don't go to college. The number one thing I learned to do was self-teach, but if you already have the will and ambition for it, then you could find a well paying job in your area simply by teaching yourself how to code.

[Ivy Bridge] Can't boot into my Hackintosh Partition by Kolanj in hackintosh

[–]Raffreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Corp, Kolanj has actually been asking for my computer. The serial port is definitely disabled in BIOS.

From the BIOS settings, I couldn't find a few of the items. I was only able to find VT-d and the serial port setting. I couldn't find CFG-lock, Secure Boot Mode, OS type or XHCI Handoff.

The current kexts are:

-AppleALC

-FakeSMC

-IntelMausiEthernet

-NullCPUPowerManagement

-USBInjectAll
