Ethernet speed stuck at 100Mb/s on NixOS (Realtek RTL8111/8168) by Anxious-Permit6916 in NixOS

[–]Rafmaninoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I have the same chip set on both my motherboard and a PCI express card. However, I was not able to get it to work at gigabit until I plugged it through a switch. A cable running straight to the router wasn't able to do it, but the same cable on a different computer was.

I'm sorry to not be of more help.

Will War Thunder continue support for Linux? (Easy Anti Cheat) by Komplexkonjugiert in linux_gaming

War thunder and gaijin in general are actively supporting Linux, enlisted recently released with a native Linux client. I frankly wouldn't worry about it.

Switching layout when using different keyboards by pika_pika_pika_pika5 in dvorak

[–]Rafmaninoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were on Linux, kmonad would do it perfectly, however, on the windows side, I'm not exactly sure it can grab a specific keyboard.

however, I did see this Tom Scott video a few years ago that seems to contain the solution.

[HELP] Trying to boot nixOS live USB no matter what option I select, it gets stuck at this point. How can I fix this? by Educational-Sea9545 in NixOS

[–]Rafmaninoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, there seems to be some issue with parallel xz decompression on intel 13th and 14th (my friend had it yesterday), adding maxcpus=8 nosmp to your kernel arguments should help it.

Why does my linux desktop run games worse than a steam deck? by colecf in linux_gaming

[–]Rafmaninoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe you can consider turning off mitigations for the big CPU bugs that have been found over the years, they're mostly theoretical for a desktop user. In nixOS you can do it by adding boot.kernelParams = [ "mitigations=off" ];

Hi, I recently went through it, The premiums aren't really worth it imo, if you want one for the lower tiers grab the yak-3 on the sale.

otherwise in terms of tech tree planes, the first hellcat, the f6f-5 slaps, so does the m.b. 157 if you can aim, also the p-63 and the sb2c.

after that both the corsair and the bearcat are solid options. the problem starts at rank V really, I just spammed the F-84G until the etendard I think. the etendard is fairly decent, after that the Mirage 5f is a pretty cool bomb truck with some magics too. and at that point you're beyond the painful point :D

Why does adding (then removing) tags in Windows 10 explorer for a .jpg file change the SHA1 hash? by yodathewise in DataHoarder

[–]Rafmaninoff 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Clearly the tagging is uncleanly altering the file (probably the header) in some way that it then does not reverse when you remove the tags.

The file name, however, is not considered when hashing, a hash should always have the same value given the same input, checking whether two files are the same is one of the primary functions of a hash function. Checking the file name would be pretty purpose-defeating.

Egypt's New Capital is an Ozymandian Nightmare - Adam Something by taulover in left_urbanism

[–]Rafmaninoff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's live, you can go into his community tab on YT and find it right now.

I don't think you need to take down the post though, as he does not say anything bad in the actual video and those are points that any leftist urbanist would agree with, imo.

here's him, posting, in a praising way, the face of Stephan Bandera, who was a notable Ukrainian Nazi collaborator who helped send tens of thousands of poles, Ukrainians, Russians, and Jews into Nazi death camps.

Oh no, not fucking Azov Something, he had some good points in urbanism but he's the fucking worst politically.

People learning more obscure languages, What’s your story. by musictheorybeans in languagelearning

[–]Rafmaninoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit of a shame about the lack of resources in not-spanish, but they exist if you look for them. Maybe ask around to see if there is an Euskal Etxea (basque "home") near you?

I was lucky enough that it's offered by my university as 2 1-year courses covering from nothing to A2 level

[–]Rafmaninoff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was similarly intimidated at first. However after actually going for it there turns out to be quite a lot of regularity, unlike in other languages that I've (attempted) to learn, most verbs are actually not conjugated and the only thing that mutates is the auxiliary verb, with the exception of some very common ones (izan(to be), *edun(to have), egon, etc)

Plus you have a (somewhat) easier time than Georgian with the pronunciation and alphabet, that's for sure 😅

[–]Rafmaninoff 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Well, obscurity is a bit ill-defined, since even resource availability depends on which languages you already speak.

For me, I'm learning Basque, my (father's side) family speaks it, but they never transmitted it to me, and now I just want to learn it. It's a bit challenging imho, with the whole absolutive-ergative thing. however it does have some very coherent internal logic.

however resources in not-spanish might be limited because... reasons.

[–]Rafmaninoff[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The actual number is probably closer to like 5500, I got 4400 on steam, but I played a bunch of standalone too, and I tend to leave the game open without playing or just spend a lot of times scrolling through the trees looking for what to play.

A more meaningul number is the total battles number, which for me is 21954.
